This text included excerpts of the sayings of Saint John Chrysostom, translated from Greek to Arabic, and thirty-four spiritual essays. The manuscript was composed by Butrus Girgis, and it was handwritten by Yusuf Hanna in 1843. It includes decca, a typical form of Coptic Orthodox illustration. Saint John Chrysostom, the author, served as the patriarch of Constantinople, a position forced upon him in 389 C.E. Born in Antioch circa 347 C.E., he devoted several years to monastic life, spending part of this time as a hermit. Chrysostom means "golden-mouthed."The Iryan Moftah Coptic Language and Religion Manuscript and Book Collection was acquired in 2003 thanks to Laurence Moftah who generously arranged for its transfer to the Rare Books and Special Collection Library in support of the preservation of Coptic heritage and the Coptic studies program at the American University in Cairo. The manuscripts were originally digitized and described by Father Maximous El-Antony with the aid of the Rare Books and Special Collections Library in 2010

Individualizing immunosuppression in lung transplantation

No full text
Immunosuppression management after lung transplantation continues to evolve, with an increasing number of agents available for use in various combinations allowing for more choice and individualization of immunosuppressive therapy. Therapeutic developments have led to improved outcomes including lower acute rejection rates and improved survival. However, a one size fits all approach for any immunosuppressive strategy may not be best suited to the individual patient and ultimately patient specific factors must be considered when designing the immunosuppressive regimen. Recipient factors including age, race, co-morbidities, immunologic risk, genetic polymorphisms, concomitant and previous pharmacotherapy, and overall immunosuppression burden should be considered. There are several significant drug-drug interactions with select immunosuppressive agents utilized in lung transplant pharmacotherapy that must be considered when choosing and devising a dosing strategy for an individual immunosuppressive agent. Herein, considerations for immunosuppression management in the individual patient will be reviewed. </jats:p

Recurrent Leukemia Cutis in Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia

No full text
We report the case of a 64-year-old female with acute myeloblastic leukemia (French-American- British classification: M2) who developed two specific cutaneous manifestations during her illness. She presented with extensive cellulitis involving the face, neck, and upper chest wall. While the cellulitis resolved with antibiotic therapy, a fungating ulcerated nodule remained on the lower lip which proved to be leukemic on biopsy. Concomitant blood and bone marrow findings were diagnostic of acute myeloblastic leukemia. The lip lesion cleared with a course of chemotherapy. An erythematous macular rash subsequently developed over the lower trunk which was thought to be an allergic reaction to the penicillin treatment. However biopsy results were consistent with leukemia cutis. A repeat bone marrow examination revealed excessive blasts. Our observations emphasize the various presentations of leukemia cutis and the need to biopsy any cutaneous lesion of unclear etiology in the setting of acute leukemia
