    Benjamin Karim: Remembering Malcolm

    Benjamin Karim (July 14, 1932 - August 2, 2005) was an African American Muslim minister, author, and orator. He was born Benjamin Goodman, in Suffolk, VA., the son of Wilbur Bryant and Mary Goodman. Young Goodman was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. After serving in the military, Goodman worked as a recording engineer with a record company when he first heard Malcolm X speak in 1957, and his experience caused him to convert to the Nation of Islam (NOI), cease many secular activities, change his diet, and become sober. A dedicated student of African and African American history, Karim re-educated himself and over the next seven years, adopted the name Benjamin 2X, and became one of the closest aides to Malcolm X. He supervised an educational program at the NOI temple in Harlem, and stood in for Malcolm X at some events held around the United States

    As a scholar in Kerinci District, Abdul Karim Jamak's thinking needs to be examined in the middle of society, as previously the teachings of Islam taught to his students are seen and understood by the local community by stating that he developed deviant teachings. Of course, such views are not acceptable only to the truth of the teachings they convey. His students are not only from the general public, but also educators, government officials and lecturers, and others. People should see clearly what Abdul Karim Jamak teaches. Consequently, before the conclusions and decisions of the deviation, not a single flow of flow and the teachings developed by a group of scholars, both individually and collectively, need to carry out several approaches and various methods. The study, entitled 'Abdul Karim Jamak and His Thoughts on the Divine Concept', uses qualitative research methods through two approaches namely Historical approach and Islamic theory approach. His ultimate aim is to study and examine the biography of Abdul Karim Jamak and his Thoughts on the Divine Concept. Which in detail talks about, Nature of God, the concept of God's Action and Qada and qadar. With the objective of the study is to analyze and identify the history and life of Abdul Karim Jamak and to express the role of thinking on the direction of God's concept. The author chose this figure as the object of study as he was a prominent figure in Indonesia, then conducted a Comparative Analysis as a comparative research. In addition, it also regulates the views of Kerinci people who had previously thought that Abdul Karim Jamak taught misguided teachings. From research findings it can be seen that Abdul Karim Jamak is a famous scholar, who has fought with his missionary activities inviting the Muslim community in Kerinci to practice the teachings of Islam in accordance with the law of the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. From the concept of his thinking about the Godhead. Abdul Karim Jamak follows the thinking of Asyā'irah, based on the Quran and the hadith of the Prophet. S.a.w His divine teachings that have been understood and practiced have implicated his students and the Muslim community of Kerinci even to the archipelago. Abdul Karim Jamak deserves the title of Kiyai Haji (Kh) after developing his concept of Islamic thought and the concept of Divine not contrary to the Qur'an and the hadith

    Bank stability measures for dual banking system

    Bank stability is of paramount importance in the growth of the economy, sustainability and going concern of the financial sector. Thus, it places high reliance on the measures to indicate the stability of the financial institution. There are many indicators used as measures for bank stability. However, the recent Global Financial Crisis showed that despite reports of ‘healthy’ financial institution prior to crisis, these institutions suffered many problems including liquidity, during the crisis. Thus, this led to confusion on reliance of important components of a healthy financial institutions as indicators, leading to loss of confidence on the overall stability of the financial system. Therefore, there is an urgent need for review of the current measures of bank stability that look at the indicators used as measures of banking stability across different jurisdictions. This study aims to develop bank stability index as a measure of bank stability in countries with dual banking system. This methodology rely on qualitative review of literatures and report produced by central banks of different jurisdictions. © 2017 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved

    ABSTRAK Nilai peduli lingkungan merupakan standar norma, sikap dan tindakan individu yang berupaya untuk menjaga, melestarikan, dan memperbaiki kondisi lingkungan, mulai dari pencegahan kerusakan lingkungan hingga upaya aktif dalam memperbaiki kerusakan yang ada. Upaya Sekolah Alam Al-Karim dalam mensosialisasikan nilai peduli lingkungan merupakan kegiatan atau usaha yang dilakukan oleh SD Alam Al-Karim yang berbasis menekankan interkasi siswa dengan alam terbuka dalam hal mempelajari kebiasaan, nilai, dan norma sosial terkait dengan kelestarian lingkungan. Berdasarkan permasalahan diatas penulis merumuskan beberapa rumusan masalah. Yang pertama, bagaimana upaya yang dilakukan SD Alam Al-Karim dalam mensosialisasikan nilai peduli lingkunga pada siswa? Dan yang kedua, bagaimana dampak dari proses sosialisasi terhadap para siswa SD Alam Al-Karim? Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untu mengetahui upaya apa yang dilakukan SD Alam Al-Karim dalam mensosialisasikan nilai peduli lingkungan pada siswa, untuk mengetahui dampak dari proses sosialisasi terhadap para siswa SD Alam Al-Karim. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan kualitatif dengan sifat deskriptif dan menggunakan jenis penelitian lapangan (Field reserch). Metode pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Adapun analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode yang terdiri dari pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data dan verifikasi data. Pemilihan infroman dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik snowball sampling dan dokumentasi yang di dapatkan hasil dari wawancara kepada kepala sekolah dan guru SD Alam Al-Karim. Teori yang digunakan untuk menganalisis dalam penelitian ini adalah teori ekosentrisme dari Arne Naes. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa upaya yang dilakukan Sekolah Dasar Alam Al-Karim dalam mensosialisasikan nilai peduli lingkungan pada siswa yaitu diterapkan melalui program-program sekolah. SD Alam Al-Karim membuat program kealaman yang mengajarkan siswa untuk peduli dan mencintai lingkungan. Program program tersebut yaitu operasi semut sebelum belajar, snack time, kunjungan ke kebun binatang, susur sungai, dan family camp. Dampak proses sosialisasi yang dilakukan SD Alam Al-Karim terhadap para siswa, berupa pembiasaan dan penanaman nilai serta norma. Proses sosialisasi pada siswa SD Alam Al-Karim memiliki dampak yang terhadap perkembangan siswa yaitu siswa menjadi lebih mudah untuk mengembangkan identitas dan kompetensi yang diwadahi lewat ekstrakulikuler, pengembangkan keterampilan sosial dalam meningkatkan komunikasi dan interaksi antar siswa dengan siswa, siswa dengan guru dan siswa dengan alam, pengembangan keterampilan ekologis dimana siswa mampu mengelola alam dengan bijak, pengembangkan kesadaran dan keterlibatan dengan berpartisipasi secara aktif dengan alam, dan mengembangkan keterampilan adaptasi terhadap lingkungan yang sebelumnya mereka nilai kotor atau menjijikan Kata Kunci: Upaya Sekolah Alam, Sosialisasi, Nilai Peduli Lingkungan. ABSTRACT The value of caring for the environment is a standard of norms, attitudes and actions of individuals who strive to maintain, preserve and improve environmental conditions, starting from preventing environmental damage to active efforts in repairing existing damage. The efforts of Al-Karim Nature School in socializing the value of environmental care are activities or efforts carried out by Al-Karim Nature School which are based on emphasizing student interaction with the outdoors in terms of learning habits, values, and social norms related to environmental sustainability. Based on the above problems, the author formulates several problem formulations. First, how are the efforts made by SD Alam Al-Karim in socializing the value of caring for the environment in students? And second, how is the impact of the socialization process on the students of SD Alam Al-Karim? The purpose of this study was to find out what efforts SD Alam Al-Karim made in socializing the value of environmental care to students, to find out the impact of the socialization process on SD Alam Al-Karim students. The method used in this study uses qualitative with descriptive nature and uses the type of field research (Field reserch). Data collection methods are observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis in this study uses a method consisting of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and data verification. Selection of informants in this study. The results of this study indicate that the efforts made by Al Karim Nature Elementary School in socializing the value of environmental care to students are applied through school programs. SD Alam Al-Karim created a nature program that teaches students to care and love the environment. These programs are ant operations before learning, snack time, visits to zoos, river treks, and family camps. Then then the impact of the socialization process carried out by SD Alam Al-Karim on students, with the existence of natural programs carried out as a form of habituation and instilling values and norms. The socialization process at SD Alam Al-Karim students has an impact on student development, namely students becoming easier to develop identities and competencies that are accommodated through extracurricular activities, developing social skills in improving communication and interaction between students and students, students and teachers and students with nature, developing ecological skills where students are able to manage nature wisely, developing awareness and involvement by actively participating with nature, and developing adaptation skills to an environment that they previously considered dirty or disgusting.
