Introduction to Real Analysis
There are many books aimed at guiding novices in the acquisition of basic knowledge in abstract real analysis. For Christopher Heil, the classics on the matter (the books by Folland or Rudin, for instance) stand out from the rest thanks to their structured, effective and systematic treatment of the material. However, while they are great reference books that every mathematician should keep at hand, they are not well suited to be used as textbooks in an introductory course; ”they should be the second set of books on analysis that you pick up”.
It was with the intention to produce “the analysis text that you read first” and, therefore, break away from the widespread practice of serving, first and foremost, the imperatives of logic and elegance in the presentation of elements when these are difficult to reconcile didactic considerations, that Heil decided to write an Introduction to Real Analysis. This challenge has been met hands down.
This book is intended primarily for students beginning their graduate studies in mathematics but it will also be suitable for well-prepared undergraduates. The author offers a very airy and well-structured preliminary chapter, in which he reviews the essential prerequisites and takes the opportunity to introduce the notation he will make his own.
Introduction to Real Analysis contains over 30 figures that aid in the understanding of certain results presenting a greater degree of technical difficulty, and well over 400 problems and embedded exercises. Nearly fifty brief clues for the most difficult questions are provided at the end of the book. Furthermore, the preface informs us of the existence of resources to help in solving the exercises (available online) as well as a solutions manual for teachers. Other appeals of the book include the presence of an index of symbols structured by themes, where each symbol is accompanied by a precise reference to the Definition where clarification can be obtained.
Anticipating some frequent questions and misunderstandings, the author devoted an entire chapter to the concept of absolute continuity and the fundamental theorem of calculus. It should also be noted that the chapter devoted to differentiation provides absolute clarity.
It is obvious that the author has taken care to make knowledge acquisition as easy as possible and help students structure their thoughts, including by using mnemonic strategies that help students retain the key ideas of theorems and lemmas. With a clear educational concern, Heil has understood that what does not draw attention has little chance of being thought about, and what is not thought about cannot possibly be learned.
Real Option Games with R&D and Learning Spillovers
We model pre-investment R&D decisions in the presence of spillover effects in an option pricing framework with analytic tractability. Two firms face two decisions that are solved for interdependently in a two-stage game. The first-stage decision is: what is the optimal level of coordination (optimal policy/technology choice)? The second-stage decision is: what is the optimal effort for a given level of the spillover effects and the cost of information acquisition? The framework is extended to a two-period stochastic game with (path-dependency inducing) switching costs that make strategy revisions harder. The Strategic Real Estate Framework: Processes, Linkages, Decisions
The intention of this work is to provide a contemporary perspective for understanding the real estate markets that can guide the involvement and decisions for all sectors of society's direct and indirect involvements with the real estate process, resources and market participants. Comprehension of the multifaceted, multidimensional, substantial segment of the economy known as real estate is best accomplished through a strategic framework. Because the real estate discipline lacks coherence and concurrence about what is the essence of real estate and what are the operative paradigms for comprehending and making order of the discipline, there is need for a strategic framework that is simultaneously synthesizing, integrating and comprehensive. The concept of the real estate strategy framework both provides the basis for gaining insights into the real estate discipline and also presents a means to connect a strategic approach to real estate with the act of real estate decision-making. By understanding the real estate process, those strategic influences on transactions that follow from the real estate process can be identified. This framework can enhance the quality, reliability and prudence of real estate decisions. By understanding these interdependencies and linkages, more effective decisionmaking concerning real estate interests and the objectives of participants in the real estate markets can be achieved.

Dynamic scheduling of parallel real-time jobs by modelling spare capabilities in heterogeneous clusters
In this research, a scenario is assumed where periodic real-time jobs are being run on a heterogeneous cluster of computers, and new aperiodic parallel real-time jobs' modelled by Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAG), arrive at the system dynamically. In the scheduling scheme presented in this paper, a global scheduler situated within the cluster schedules new jobs onto the computers by modelling their spare capabilities left by, existing periodic jobs. Admission control is introduced so that new jobs are rejected if their deadlines cannot be met under the precondition of still guaranteeing the real-time requirements of existing jobs. Each computer within the cluster houses a local scheduler, which uniformly schedules both periodic job instances and the subtasks in the parallel real-time jobs using an Early Deadline First policy. The modelling of the spare capabilities is optimal in the sense that once a new task starts running on a computer, it will utilize all the spare capability left by the periodic real-time jobs and its finish time is the earliest possible. The performance of the proposed modelling approach and scheduling scheme is evaluated by extensive simulation; results show that the system utilization is significantly enhanced, while the real-time requirements of the existing jobs remain guaranteed
APIS : a real-time message-oriented middleware
Includes bibliographical references.This thesis presents an investigation and evaluation of a Real-Time Message-Oriented Middleware (MOM) implementation using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software components. The Application Interface Services (APIS) is an implementation of a real-time MOM that provides network services to sub-systems of a large-scale distributed system. It is shown that the characteristics of a MOM are well suited to a real-time message distribution application and that APIS, as an implementation of a real-time MOM, can provide a heterogeneous network interlace to subsystems of a distributed real-time nature. This simplifies the task of implementing information exchange and provides a definitive boundary for assigning responsibility during system design and development
