Design and synthesis of chroman derivatives with dual anti-breast cancer and antiepileptic activities

All synthesized compounds yielded results that were in good agreement with spectral data. The bioassay showed that some of the resultant compounds exerted remarkable inhibitory effects on growth of human breast cancer cell line MCF-7. In particular, compound 6i (the concentration required for 50% inhibition of cell growth [GI50] =34.7 µM) exerted promising anticancer activity toward MCF-7 cell line. Additionally, compounds 6b, 6c, 6d, 6e, 6g, 6i, and 6l showed advanced antiepileptic activity than reference drugs. None of the compounds showed neurotoxicity, as determined by the rotarod test. The obtained results proved that these distinctive compounds could be relevant as models for future discovery and research, as well as for the production of more number of active derivatives. Identification of Heterocyclic Amines in Indian Home Cooked and Commercially Available Meat Foods
DOCKING STUDIES OF SUBSTITUTED CHROMAN ANALOGS AT ESTROGEN RECEPTOR
Objective: The objective of the present study is to perform the molecular docking studies of some newly designed chroman analogs on estrogenreceptor (ER) (PDB: 1YIM) by Glide v5.0.Methods: The docking studies of designed chroman analogs were performed on the active site of ER (PDB: 1YIM) for anti-breast cancer activity usingSchrodinger Glide v5.0. Absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion properties of all designed compounds were also calculated by Qik Prop v3. 0.Results: Among all compounds, compound 38 showed highest docking score (−8.17) in the series. Docking scores were compared with standarddrugs tamoxifene (−11.08) and anastrazole (−7.86). All compounds were found to be within expectable range for percent human oral absorption,octanol/water partition coefficient (QP log Po/w), brain/blood partition coefficient (QP log BB), total solvent accessible surface area, and rule of fivepredicted by Qikprop.Conclusion: Most of the compounds in the series showed good molecular docking score on the ER (PDB: 1YIM). Compound 38 (−8.16) exhibitedbetter docking score than standard drug anastrazole (−7.86). The philosophy of Edgar Allan Poe in Eureka.
For over a century Edgar Allan Poe's cosmological prose poem, Eureka, has lain in obscurity. The work has been generally disregarded as having any relative importance to an evaluation of the life and works of Edgar Allan Poe; and where it has been treated, the picture which has been painted of Eureka is often unfavorable to the author's mental capacities.
Eureka is a splendid example of the ambivalence of the nineteenth century in regard to science and religion. The bulk of Poe's arguments in Eureka is materialistic; but because his scientific motives conflict with his inherent religious principles, Poe moves from a mechanistic world governed by mathematical laws to a spiritual plane of pure Transcendentalism in the rhapsodic conclusion of the treatise. One single philosophy cannot pinpoint the whole of Eureka; it must be regarded as a dioramic evolvement of several schools of thought, each having antithetical concepts to be reconciled with the other parts, and each concept expressed with equal sincerity in different sections as Poe works out his own unique philosophy.
Therefore, the purpose of this paper is threefold--to evaluate the validity of Eureka as a noteworthy cosmological and metaphysical treatise on the basis of the scientific, astronomical, and philosophic works available to the author in his day; to analyze the perplexing concepts of Eureka; and to synthesize all of the various schools of thought evidenced throughout the work into one composite philosophy. A conscientious effort has been made to utilize and cite all possible sources pertinent to an interpretation of Eureka, but because of the scarcity of material on the subject, the main premises for this paper are drawn from the work itself.
Chapter One treats the credibility of Poe in an effort to explain the apparent disrespect of the critics for the work in question. Chapter Two attempts to prove the cosmological ideas in Eureka evolved from scientific, astronomical, and philosophic sources drawn from Poe's prodigious reading. Chapter Three presents intuitionism as the mode in which Eureka was written and the pervading force behind it. Chapter Four discusses materialism, with its inescapable implications of determinism; evolutionism, as a process of how organic life arose from particles of matter; and teleology, which Poe finds necessary to explain the striving of all material things toward unity with God. Chapter Five analyzes the concepts of Pantheism and mysticism in Eureka, and Chapter Six demonstrates the elements of Transcendentalism in the work. The conclusion attempts to unravel the various conflicting skeins of thought in Eureka in an effort to synthesize the scattered parts of Poe's philosophy into a total world view.
This paper is an endeavor to define the philosophical ideas set forth in Eureka and where possible to cite authoritative sources to show that these ideas did not spring unfounded from a diseased mind, but rather from a mature intellect rationally attempting to formulate a cosmology based on data afforded to Poe as a journalist and avid reader. Numerous references have been specified as background material for Eureka. Critics unsympathetic to Poe or unfamiliar with Eureka cannot justifiably discount the work as the incomprehensible ravings of a liquor-ridden lunatic when perspicacious observation reveals that Poe upheld many of the same theories as did such esteemed thinkers as Humboldt, Newton, Laplace, Herschel, Eddington, and Einstein. As to the stilted, conventional view that Poe's prose poem cannot contain any serious philosophical thought of any consequence, one must remember that Plato, Lucretius, Dante, Goethe, Schiller, and Emerson were likewise poets
Sensor-based measurements of NDVI in small grain and corn fields by tractor, drone, and satellite platforms

Published by Elsevier Ltd on behalf of Huazhong Agricultural University.The use of sensors for variable rate nitrogen (VRN) applications is transitioning from equipment-based to drone and satellite technologies. However, regional algorithms, initially designed for proximal active sensors, require evaluation for compatibility with remotely sensed reflectance and N-rate predictions. This study observed normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) data from six small grain and two corn fields over three years. We employed three platforms: tractor-mounted active sensors (T-NDVI), passive multispectral drone (D-NDVI), and satellite (S-NDVI) sensors. Averaged NDVI values were extracted from the as-applied equipment polygons. Correlations between NDVI values from the three platforms were positive and strong, with D-NDVI consistently recording the highest values, particularly in areas with lower plant biomass. This was attributed to D-NDVI's lower soil reflectance and its ability to measure the entire biomass within equipment polygons. For small grains, sensors spaced on equipment booms might not capture accurate biomass in poor-growing and low NDVI regions. Regarding VRN, S-NDVI and D-NDVI occasionally aligned with T-NDVI recommendations but often suggested half the active sensor rate. Final yields showed some correlation with landscape variables, irrespective of N application. This finding suggests the potential use of drone or satellite imagery to provide multiple NDVI maps before application, incorporating expected landscape responses and thereby enhancing VRN effectiveness.We would like to acknowledge our Maryland farmer cooperators and Shawn Tingle for his assistance in the field. Nanogel-Based Delivery System for Lemongrass Essential Oil: A Promising Approach to Overcome Antibiotic Resistance in <i>Pseudomonas aeruginosa</i> Infections
The emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) presents a substantial obstacle in medical environments. To effectively tackle this problem, we suggest an innovative approach: employing a delivery system based on nanogels to administer lemongrass essential oil (LGO). Developed PVA and PLGA nanoparticle formulation efficiently encapsulates LGO with 56.23% encapsulation efficiency by solvent extraction technique, preserving stability and bioactivity. Nanogel: 116 nm size, low polydispersity (0.229), −9 mV zeta potential. The nanogel’s controlled release facilitated targeted LGO delivery via pH-controlled dissolution. Pure LGO had the highest release rate, while LGO-NP and LGO-NP-CG exhibited slower rates. In 15 h, LGO-NP released 50.65%, and LGO-NP-CG released 63.58%, releasing 61.31% and 63.58% within 24 h. LGO-NP-CG demonstrated superior antioxidant activity, a lower MIC against P. aeruginosa, and the most potent bactericidal effect compared to other formulations. This underscores the versatile efficacy of LGO, suggesting its potential to combat antibiotic resistance and enhance treatment effectiveness. Moreover, employing a nanogel-based delivery approach for LGO offers an efficient solution to combat drug resistance in P. aeruginosa infections. By employing strategies such as nanogel encapsulation and controlled release, we can enhance the effectiveness of LGO against antibiotic-resistant strains. This study establishes a robust foundation for exploring innovative approaches to treating P. aeruginosa infections using nanomedicine and paves the way for investigating novel methods of delivering antimicrobial drugs. These efforts contribute to the ongoing battle against antibiotic resistance
Social media analysis reveals environmental injustices in Philadelphia urban parks

Yet, historical residential segregation in the USA has resulted in poor quality urban parks near neighborhoods with primarily disadvantaged socioeconomic status groups, and an extensive park system that addresses the needs of primarily White middle-class residents. Here we center the voices of historically marginalized urban residents by using Natural Language Processing and Geographic Information Science to analyze a large dataset (n = 143,913) of Google Map reviews from 2011 to 2022 across 285 parks in the City of Philadelphia, USA. We find that parks in neighborhoods with a high number of residents from historically disadvantaged demographic groups are likely to receive lower scores on Google Maps. Physical characteristics of these parks based on aerial and satellite images and ancillary data corroborate the public perception of park quality. Topic modeling of park reviews reveal that the diverse environmental justice needs of historically marginalized communities must be met to reduce the uneven park quality—a goal in line with achieving SDG 11 by 2030.This work was supported by the NASA Delaware Space Grant College and Fellowship Program (80NSSC20M0045)
