    Introducing inter-professional education in curricula of Saudi health science schools: An educational projection of Saudi Vision 2030

    AbstractRecently, the Saudi government initiated plans to improve both the health care system and health profession education. Providing optimal care in health care institutions requires health care providers from different services to collaborate and interact. Evidence-based research has shown that optimizing the interactions and communication between health care workers improves patient outcomes and reduces medical errors. The use of interprofessional education (IPE) in undergraduate health profession programmes in some Western universities has been found to be an effective tool for improving communication and interaction between health care providers. This paper addresses the possibility of introducing IPE into health profession education in KSA to support Saudi Vision 2030

    An Investigation of the Appropriate Level(s) and Ratio of Value Contrast for Partially Sighted Individuals

    © The Author(s) 2020. cc-byThe present study aimed to investigate the appropriate level of value contrast in built environments, including the ratio of dark value to light value color, to enable people with low vision to distinguish elements more readily from the surroundings. The study included a total of 20 participants from four locations in Texas. Participants received a two-part questionnaire: Part 1 recorded demographic information including age, gender, and visual acuity; Part 2 presented the central questions of the study relating to given images. All of the participants agreed that high value contrast images with at least 60% variance between the dark and light values were very easy to see. Participants also indicated that medium value contrast images with a variance of 30% were recognizable. Most of the participants also indicated a preference for light value to dark value in a built environment

    Knowledge and utilization of colorectal cancer screening in Saudi society

    BackgroundIn Saudi Arabia (SA), cancer is a major burden on the healthcare system. It has a great impact on both the social and economic aspects of the patient. The Saudi cancer registry reports an increase in the incidence of all cancers since the first report in 1994. Colorectal Cancer (CRC) is the most common type of cancer in SA.AimsTo measure the utilization and the knowledge of Saudi population about screening for CRC and the awareness of the society towards CRC incidence and risk factors.Methods A questionnaire-based cross-sectional survey was conducted with simple random sampling of 636 individuals between February 2018 to May 2018. The questionnaire comprised of 19 questions covering personal data of the participant, degree of awareness about colorectal cancer in Saudi Arabia, and information about colonoscopy and how it’s done.Results The known risk factors for CRC, that are inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), smoking and polyps, were recognized by less than 50 per cent of the respondents. Almost two thirds of the respondents were willing to do screening. Willingness to do screening was significantly associated with a history of colonoscopy for the respondent or a relative.ConclusionThe knowledge and awareness of our sample about CRC was low. Raising the level of knowledge is anticipated to increase the readiness to do screening

    Application of statistical physical, DFT computation and molecular dynamics simulation for enhanced removal of crystal violet and basic fuchsin dyes utilizing biosorbent derived from residual watermelon seeds (Citrullus lanatus)

    This study investigates the use of watermelon seeds (Citrullus lanatus), a plentiful and cost-effective biosorbent, for the removal of basic fuchsin (BF) and crystal violet (CV) dyes from aqueous solutions. Characterization of the biosorbent was conducted using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), while Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis revealed a specific surface area (SBET) of 54.50 m² g−1, highlighting its mesoporous structure advantageous for adsorption. Adsorption isotherms were best described by the Langmuir model, indicating monolayer adsorption with high correlation coefficients (R² values of 0.9959 for CV and 0.9978 for BF) and notable adsorption capacities of 139.2493 mg g−1 for CV and 238.80501 mg g−1 for BF. Thermodynamic analysis confirmed the spontaneous and exothermic nature of the adsorption, driven by molecular interactions. To elucidate the adsorption mechanism at the molecular level, we employed Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations, Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations, and Non-Covalent Interaction (NCI) analysis. These computational methods provided insights that closely aligned with experimental data, establishing a robust theoretical-experimental framework for understanding dye adsorption by watermelon seed biosorbent. The practical implications of our findings are significant, suggesting that watermelon seed biosorbent can be effectively scaled up for industrial effluent treatment in continuous systems. The study underscores the potential of utilizing this sustainable and economically viable biosorbent for environmental remediation, offering a promising alternative to conventional adsorbents with its high efficiency and lower sensitivity to environmental conditions such as pH and temperature
