    Synthesis of electromagnetic Schell-model sources

    No full text
A procedure for the synthesis of the most general electromagnetic Schell-model light source is proposed. It makes use of the generalized van Cittert-Zernike theorem to produce the electromagnetic source starting from a primary spatially incoherent source, characterized by a suitable position-dependent polarization matrix. By resorting to the spectral decomposition of the polarization matrix, it is shown how such an incoherent source can be synthesized by using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer, with suitable amplitude transmittances placed in its arms, fed by two mutually uncorrelated laser beams. Examples are given for the case of electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-model sources. (C) 2009 Optical Society of Americ

Partially correlated thin annular sources: the vectorial case

    No full text
We develop an electromagnetic analysis for partially correlated thin annular sources. The elements of the correlation matrix are assumed to depend only on the angular distance between two typical points. For any such source, we show how the modal expansion can be found. Correlation changes upon free propagation are discussed. Further, examples and possible synthesis schemes are presented

Realizability condition for electromagnetic Schell-model sources

    No full text
The set of functions that appear in the correlation matrix of an electromagnetic source must satisfy the constraint of nonnegative definiteness. Here we derive a necessary and sufficient condition for nonnegativeness for the class of electromagnetic Schell-model sources. This result also suggests a possible synthesis procedure for this type of source. As an illustration, two specific examples of electromagnetic Schell-model sources are discussed. Generation and characterization of spirally polarized fields

    No full text
Recently introduced global parameters for describing the polarization of a beam are used to characterize spirally polarized fields, which include as particular cases azimuthally and radially polarized fields. Theoretical predictions about such global parameters are experimentally confirmed by generating beams with spirally polarized transverse patterns, by means of two different procedures

    On genuine cross-spectral density matrices

    No full text
For an electromagnetic stochastic beam, the choice of the mathematical structure of the cross-spectral density matrix is limited by the constraint of non-negative definiteness. We present a sufficient condition for building these matrices in such a way that this constraint is automatically satisfied. This allows us to put into evidence that electromagnetic beams can exhibit very peculiar correlation properties, some of which would not be encountered in scalar treatments. These results are illustrated by means of a number of examples

Las "Cantigas" de Sancho Sanchez, clérigo

    No full text
Italian apographs B and V collect, under the rubric Sancho Sanchez clérigo, five cantigas de amigo and a cantiga de amor attributed to this author. The cantigas in this little profane lyric songbook, which closes the well-known compilação de clérigos (Oliveira 1994) preserved in B and V, were never released together. The aim of this paper is to establish the critical text of these six compositions, bearing in mind the written evidences preserved in the aforementioned song-books and, with them, the partial previous editions written by different authors and critics. This critical edition is part of a larger research about this troubadour, initiated by the author in January 2012 on the Arquivo Galicia Medieval of the CRPIH.Los apógrafos italianos B y V recogen, bajo la rúbrica Sancho Sanchez clérigo, cinco cantigas de amigo y una cantiga de amor atribuidas a este autor.
