    RECTIFIED DIFFERENTIAL CRYPTANALYSIS OF 16 ROUND PRESENT Manoj Kumar , Pratibha Yadav and Meena Kumari SAG, DRDO, Metcalfe House, Delhi-110054, India ABSTRACT In this paper, we have suggested rectifications in differential cryptanalysis of ultra-lightweight block cipher PRESENT reduced to 16 rounds. We have shown that proposed differential attack by Wang [3] on 16 round PRESENT can recover at the most 30 subkey bits, although the author has claimed to recover 32 bits of subkey for last two rounds. We have also computed data complexity and success probability for recovering 30 subkey bits accordingly by the differential attack on 16 round PRESENT.     D-Penicillamine for preventing retinopathy of prematurity in preterm infants

    Background The rate of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in moderately premature infants has decreased dramatically with improved care in the neonatal intensive care unit. A low rate of this disorder was unexpectedly observed among infants treated with intravenous D-penicillamine to prevent hyperbilirubinaemia. This observation led to the investigation of its use, both enterally as well as intravenously, to prevent ROP. Objectives To determine the effect of prophylactic administration of D-penicillamine on the incidence of acute ROP or severe ROP and other morbidities in preterm infants. Search methods We used the Cochrane Neonatal Review Group search strategy. Two review authors independently searched multiple electronic databases, previous reviews including cross references, abstracts, conference/symposia proceedings, and expert informants. We updated the search on November 27, 2012. Selection criteria We included randomised or quasi-randomised controlled trials if they administered D-penicillamine and compared it with no treatment or placebo to premature infants and reported on the outcome of ROP. Data collection and analysis We used the criteria and standard methods of the Cochrane Neonatal Review Group to assess the methodological quality of the included trials. One review author examined trials for validity. A second review author checked validity and they reached consensus on the final data before entry into this review. We used the standards of the Neonatal Cochrane Review Group to analyse data. Main results Three randomised trials met the inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis showed no significant differences in the risk of any stage ROP (typical risk ratio (RR) 0.32, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.03 to 3.70), severe ROP (typical RR 0.38, 95% CI 0.03 to 4.26) or death (typical RR 0.95, 95% CI 0.68 to 1.32) in all treated infants. When the subgroup of infants under 1500 g birth weight was examined, the results were similar. No side effects were reported, and follow-up at one year revealed no significant differences in spasticity or developmental delay. Authors' conclusions Administration of prophylactic D-penicillamine in preterm infants does not prevent acute or severe ROP, death or neurodevelopmental delay. D-penicillamine cannot be recommended for the prevention of ROP based on the available evidence

    Design of a compact microstrip patch antenna with a CSRR loaded substrate

    Since the advent of the wireless communications era, microstrip antennas have been used extensively due to their compact planar profile. These antennas are easily mounted to surfaces of aircrafts, satellites making them to be an ideal communicating interface. Microstrip patch antennas are based upon the principles of microstrip line theory and they are generally fabricated on a printed circuit board, due to which the cost of producing microstrip patch antennas are very low. The length of a patch antenna is directly dependent on its operating resonant frequency. The radiating edges of the antenna is approximately equal to half the wavelength corresponding to its resonant frequency. The phase difference of the E-field between the two resonant edges is an integral multiple of the value ‘π’. By the inclusion of a complementary split ring resonating (CSRR) structure to the antenna, the length of the resonating patch can be adjusted independent to the λ/2 constraint, which can lead to decrease in patch size. The objective of this thesis is to study and design a highly compact patch antenna with a CSRR loaded to the antenna structure, validate the results through theoretical simulations and then practically verify the results after fabrication. From the analysis of various CSRR structures, an optimal design methodology for size reduction will be attempted. The proposed structure is designed to radiate at 2.45 GHz. The methodology proposed in this thesis can be made use in the design of antennas with resonant frequencies in the other ranges as well. All the antenna designs showcased in this study were designed and theoretically verified through the Computer Simulation Technology studio suite using the Microwave and RF module. By simulating the final antenna structure, it is observed that it radiates at 2.45 GHZ with gain 5.71 dB. The fabricated antenna upon testing displays a shift in resonant frequency to 2.80 GHz with gain 3.31 dB due to the presence of air gap between the composite substrate structure.Master of Science (Communications Engineering

    Exploring the rainfall data from satellites to monitor rainfall induced landslides – A case study

    In the present study, rainfall estimates from TRMM (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission) and GPM (Global Precipitation Mission) constellation of satellites are analyzed in the context of rainfall induced landslide occurrences over Western Ghats (WG) of India along with the daily gridded rainfall data developed by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and Advanced Research Weather Research and Forecasting (ARW) numerical model simulations. This study aims to analyze the pattern of changes in rain rate and total rainfall triggering the large landslides over WG in TMPA (product of TRMM) and IMERG (GPM product) rainfall data sets. As a case study, performance of IMERG V5 is assessed during Malin landslide which occurred on 30 July 2014 (initial GPM era). Results indicate that IMERG shows significant increase in rain rate (>60 mm/h in half-hourly data) during Malin landslide. Near real-time IMERG V5, underestimates the rain rate but increasing pattern of rain-rate are observed which is similar to that of final version. Spatial pattern of ARW rainfall output is also close to the satellite and IMD rainfall patterns. We propose that IMERG V5 can be used as an indicator to reliably depict the higher rainfall scenario over the sites that are vulnerable to rainfall induced landslide occurrence over the WG region.Authors are thankful to the anonymous reviewers for their constructive comments that improved the quality of the article.     There are very few bilingual writers of repute in the country and Manoj Das distinctly stands as a prolific writer who has carved a niche for himself in this arena. In fact, he is one of the greatest writers of the country, who has given a new direction to the bilingual writing and proved his brilliance through his great short stories and novels both in Odia and English languages with his creative genius. He is one of the widely acclaimed bilingual story tellers of the country whose writings have been accepted by the readers for their novelty of thoughts and flawless narration. Many prestigious literary awards like the Sahitya Akademi Award, the Padma Shri and the Saraswati Samman and many more have been bestowed upon him. He is in fact one of the towering literary personalities in the Indian English fictions arena who has been instrumental in establishing a native identity. His in-depth analysis of human emotions and their universal appeal is something that is amazingly brilliant in his writings. He has been widely acclaimed and appreciated for his literary genius and creative brilliance. The present research article attempts a comparative study of these two novels which are unique with their thematic treatment as well as the subtle realities combined with powerful philosophical messages. His novel Akasara Isara (1997) which originally appeared in Odia and later translated by the author himself in English as The Escapist (2001) describes the human tragedy against the backdrop of an all-pervading destiny. There are many centrality metrics available e.g. degree, closeness, betweenness, eigenvector etc. In research community authors forms a social network, which is called Research Professionals’ Collaboration Network. This is similar to social network where each author is an actor and an article written together by some authors establishes collaboration between them. Each author acquires a certain value based on the citation of their articles. There are many citation indices are available such as citation count, h-index, g-index, i10-index etc. To analyze the Research Professionals’ collaboration Network and for finding the key author, the citation indices can be used. In this paper, we compare and combine both social network analysis metrics and the citation indices to get better result in finding the key author

    Large-area high-throughput synthesis of monolayer graphene sheet by Hot filament thermal chemical vapor deposition

    [EN] We report hot filament thermal CVD (HFTCVD) as a new hybrid of hot filament and thermal CVD and demonstrate its feasibility by producing high quality large area strictly monolayer graphene films on Cu substrates. Gradient in gas composition and flow rate that arises due to smart placement of the substrate inside the Ta filament wound alumina tube accompanied by radical formation on Ta due to precracking coupled with substrate mediated physicochemical processes like diffusion, polymerization etc., led to graphene growth. We further confirmed our mechanistic hypothesis by depositing graphene on Ni and SiO 2/Si substrates. HFTCVD can be further extended to dope graphene with various heteroatoms (H, N, and B, etc.,), combine with functional materials (diamond, carbon nanotubes etc.,) and can be extended to all other materials (Si, SiO 2, SiC etc.,) and processes (initiator polymerization, TFT processing) possible by HFCVD and thermal CVD.This research work was supported by the grant received by Manoj Kumar Singh from FCT (Grant No. PTDC/CTM-NAN/121108/2010), Ministry of Science and Technology, Portugal.
