Mathematics, Logic, and their Philosophies:Essays in Honour of Mohammad Ardeshir
This volume is a collection of essays in honour of Professor Mohammad Ardeshir. It examines topics which, in one way or another, are connected to the various aspects of his multidisciplinary research interests. Based on this criterion, the book is divided into three general categories. The first category includes papers on non-classical logics, including intuitionistic logic, constructive logic, basic logic, and substructural logic. The second category is made up of papers discussing issues in the contemporary philosophy of mathematics and logic. The third category contains papers on Avicenna’s logic and philosophy.Mohammad Ardeshir is a full professor of mathematical logic at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, where he has taught generations of students for around a quarter century. Mohammad Ardeshir is known in the first place for his prominent works in basic logic and constructive mathematics. His areas of interest are however much broader and include topics in intuitionistic philosophy of mathematics and Arabic philosophy of logic and mathematics. In addition to numerous research articles in leading international journals, Ardeshir is the author of a highly praised Persian textbook in mathematical logic. An Efficient Data Aggregation Algorithm for Cluster-based Sensor Network
Data aggregation in wireless sensor networks eliminates redundancy to improve bandwidth utilization and energy-efficiency of sensor nodes. One node, called the cluster leader, collects data from surrounding nodes and then sends the summarized information to upstream nodes. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to select a cluster leader that will perform data aggregation in a partially connected sensor network. The algorithm reduces the traffic flow inside the network by adaptively selecting the shortest route for packet routing to the cluster leader. Moisture absorption and diffusivity of epoxy filled layered-structure nanocomposite
This paper studies moisture absorption and diffusivity of epoxy reinforced layered structure nanocomposites and its effect on fracture toughness. Two different types of layered fillers employed in the study were clay and graphene platelets, in which both surface layers were unmodified and modified by characterized by swelling analysis and fracture toughness measurement. The outcomes surfactant. The nanocomposites were showed that the moisture absorption and diffusivity decreased with the addition of layered fillers. It was found that the modified graphene platelets and clay outperformed the unmodified layers and neat epoxy in terms of reduction of moisture absorption and diffusivity. The modified graphene platelets reduced the moisture uptake and diffusivity about 30% and 33%, respectively compare to neat epoxy, thus indicates its outstanding performance in barrier applications. However, once the nanocomposites were swelling in the water for 5 days, it is noticed that the fracture toughness of nanocomposites were reduced significantly about 35% in average. Nevertheless, the modified graphene platelets still display the better performance compare to the other samples although there was reduction of fracture toughness

몬테카를로 시뮬레이션에 기반한 해수 감시체계를 위한 감마선 스펙트럼 전개에 관한 연구
학위논문(박사) - 한국과학기술원 : 원자력및양자공학과, 2009. 8., [ ix, 66 p. ]Direct matrix inversion and Maximum Likelihood fitting by the Expectation Maximization (ML-EM) deconvolution methods are presented to analyze gamma-ray spectra recorded with an NaI(Tl) detector for a water monitoring system (WMS). The ML-EM iteration method based on a Poisson distribution is known as the best approach to estimate the parameters and errors of the original gamma-ray fluence energy distribution, especially when the number of counts is small. For applications in which it is not only necessary to obtain an accurate estimate of the number of counts in a particular full-energy peak, but it is also imperative to preserve the accuracy of the peak locations, the maximum likelihood method has been shown to be superior among the deconvolution methods found in the literature. The applicability of the two methods were tested by deconvolving measured spectra taken with an industry-standard 3`` × 3`` cylindrical NaI(Tl) detector in a model water tank using several calibration sources. The results show significant removal of the Compton continuum counts and efficient transfer of the counts into the corresponding photo-peaks. The peak-to-total count ratio and the number of counts in the photo-peaks in the deconvolved spectra increased approximately 4.67 and 5.29 times, respectively, compared to those of measured spectra taken with an NaI(Tl) scintillation detector for the case of . In this work, only the feasibility study has been performed with a model water tank containing several calibration sources. The feasibility study confirmed that the developed ML-EM iteration algorithm can be practically applied to the WMS in YoungKwang NPP to analyze the radioisotopes in the exhausted cooling water under normal operation or any incident or accidental cases every couple minutes.한국과학기술원 : 원자력및양자공학과
