    O presente projeto foi realizado no âmbito do Mestrado em Tradução e tem como objetivo a análise dos desafios encontrados na tradução da obra epistolar de Neal Cassady, uma das mais influentes figuras da Beat Generation, que se destacou literariamente pelas suas cartas. Foi feita uma seleção de cartas da coletânea Neal Cassady: Collected Letters, 1944-1967, editada por Dave Moore, a partir das suas principais características literárias e dos desafios que a tradução da mesma enfrenta. Este projeto procura divulgar a obra deste autor, que o público de chegada apenas conhece marginalmente, e explorar o desafio da tradução epistolar. O trabalho encontra-se dividido em quatro principais secções, cada uma delas com um subconjunto de tópicos. A primeira secção trata da contextualização histórica e social da obra de Neal Cassady e da Beat Generation, apresentando também questões ligadas ao estilo literário da mesma. A segunda secção apresenta uma breve nota biográfica sobre o autor das cartas trabalhadas, desde a vida às diversas representações literárias que existiram desta figura tão influente para a Beat Generation. A terceira secção aborda as questões estilísticas e pragmáticas dos textos selecionados, o género literário epistolar e a influência de Cassady sobre autores contemporâneos. A quarta e última secção foca-se no comentário às escolhas feitas no processo de tradução. O comentário feito à tradução das cartas selecionadas procura refletir sobre dificuldades de tradução e sobre as diversas estratégias propostas por especialistas em Estudos de Tradução.This MA Project in the area of Translation Studies aims at analyzing the Translation challenges faced in the translation of the epistolary work of Neal Cassady, one of the most influential figures of the Beat Generation, who achieved literary fame through his letters. The letters were selected from the collection Neal Cassady: Collected Letters, 1944-1967, edited by Dave Moore, based in their literary qualities and the challenges posed to translation. The project also aims to disseminate the work of this author, who his marginally known by the target audience, and to explore the challenge of epistolary translation. The work is divided into four main sections, each with their own set of subtopics. The first is the historical and social contextualization of Neal Cassady’s work and the Beat Generation, while also addressing topics of stylistics. The second section presents a brief biographical note about the author of the letters under study, his life, as well as his different literary representations. The third section focuses on the stylistic and pragmatics of the selected texts, the epistolary genre and Cassady’s influence on contemporary authors. The fourth and last section is a commentary on the choices made in the translation. The translation commentary of the selected letters addresses the challenges faced during the translation and the diverse translation strategies and theories presented by scholars of Translation Studies that were helpful in this study

A postmark on the back indicates that this postcard passed through the Wyoming, Delaware, Post Office. The postage stamp is a one-cent Benjamin Franklin. The back of the postcard is labeled 01171 and 10.00
