MDPI - Special Issue "Microgrids for E-mobility: Electrical Machines and Drives, Power Conversion and Energy Management"
Dear Colleagues,
We invite you to contribute to this Special Issue with your latest research on microgrids for e-mobility.
Pollution reduction is one of the biggest challenges of this century, since the energy growing demand affects the increase of the use of petroleum and carbon fossil fuel. A socially widespread prosperity is sustainable only by reducing the energy waste or by increasing the efficiency of each link of the supply chain from production to the user. In recent years, microgrids have been considered as the solution for e-mobility and also for civil energy production, since they allow optimizing the power density and efficiency of electrical devices, thus limiting their peak power and consequently optimizing their storage use. Several commercial realizations confirm that the field covers both the interests of the research community and the industry. The scope of the proposed Special Issue is to define the state-of-the-art for e-mobility microgrids, in order to give to readers the opportunity to select the best solution for their own applications.
This Special Issue invites original papers on but not limited to:
1) Microgrid and subsystem modeling;
2) Hardware in the loop methods with physical validation and tests;
3) Electrical generators, motor and drive design and testing;
4) Power electronic converter modeling and testing;
5) Energy management strategies and techniques;
6) Microgrid reliability and availability;
7) Fault detection

Unified supervised soft start-up and digital PI control for boost full-bridge converters
""In this paper, we analyze a simple, yet effective nonlinear digital control approach; regulator behaves like a digital PI controller in steady state and sliding control in start-up phase. The proposed control is useful when the power converter cannot be controlled in start-up phase with control designed at steady state, because becomes instable, but we are interested only performances of converter in steady state. A simple finite state machine (FSM) to switch from a modality to another will be proposed. © 2012 IEEE."

Harmonic and interharmonic currents compensation in DC line
In this paper a strategy for the compensation of harmonic currents in DC bus has been proposed. By means of a multilevel converter, low amplitude harmonic currents due to the interaction between primary converters operating in different conditions and connected to the same DC bus, are compensated. This strategy is suitable for the applications requiring a common DC bus such as Distributed Generations (DG) networks and it is able to avoid problems to devices connected due to low frequency harmonic currents. The compensator is modular and it is composed by cells series connected. It is controlled to minimize modulation current ripple. Thanks to the multilevel topology, the converter is able to operate in high voltage applications and permits to minimize the size of the switches. Simulations and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed solution
Complementarity Model for Steady-State Analysis of Resonant LLC Power Converters
In recent years, the complementarity formalism has been shown to be an interesting framework for the mathematical representation of a large class of power converters. In this brief, the complementarity model of a resonant LLC power converter is presented. The model usefulness is demonstrated for the identification of the circuit parameters and for the numerical analysis of the stationary behavior. The comparison between experimental measurements and numerical results shows the efficacy of the proposed approach
Biological degradation of phenol in a one-stage biofilter using different Pseudomonas strains
A laboratory scaled set-up, consisting in a glass column, filled with a mixture of peat and glass beads and inoculated with a pure culture of Pseudomonas putida, has been employed as biological filter in this study to purify a waste gas contaminated with variable phenol concentrations
