Synthesis and structure of an anionic aluminium-nitrogen compound containing a ladder-shaped core
An X-ray crystallographic study of the aluminum-nitrogen compound C52H78Al4Li2N4 showed it to possess a ladder-shaped (AIN)(4) core. The mesityl ligands of the inner nitrogen atoms are each metallated by one of their neighbouring aluminium atoms, while on the outer negative charge is localised. The reported structure is the first tetrameric anionic Al-N compound
Derivatives of Group 4 metal amide chlorides and fluorides: Synthesis, structure and characterization of novel dimethyl and fluoro-chloro complexes
Reaction of MgMeBr with [MCl(2)L(2)] and [MCl(2)(eta-C(5)Me(5))L] [L = (2,6-(Pr2C6H3)-C-1)N(SiMe(3)), M = Zr or Hf] gave the corresponding dimethyl complexes [MMe(2)L(2)] (M = Zr 1a or Hf 1b) and [MMe(2)(eta-C(5)Me(5))L] (M = Zr 2a or Hf 2b). Reaction of [ZrF(2)L(2)] with AlMe(3) also yielded 1a. The structures of 1a and 2a have been determined by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. Upon reaction of 1 molar equivalent of SnMe(3)F with [MCl(2)L(2)] and [MCl(2)(eta-C(5)Me(5))L] mixed fluoro-chloro complexes, [MCl(F)L(2)] (M = Zr 3a or Hf 3b) and [MCl(F)(eta-C(5)Me(5))L] (M = Zr 4a or Hf 4b) were formed, via elimination of SnMe(3)Cl. The structure of 4a has been determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis

Aminodimethylalanes (R(1)R(2)NAlMe(2)) as useful synthetic precursors of aminoalane difluorides using trimethyltin fluoride: Crystal structures of (2,6-i-Pr2C6H3)N(SiMe(3))AlMe(2) and (2,6-i-Pr2C6H3)N(SiMe(3))AlF2
Aminodimethylalanes R(1)R(2)NAlMe(2) (R(1) = 2,6-i-Pr2C6H3, 2,6-Me(2)C(6)H(3); R(2) = SiMe(3), Si(i-Pr)Me(2), Si(t-Bu)Me(2), Si(2,4,6-Me(3)C(6)H(2))Me(2)) are prepared in high yield via reaction of the respective amine R(1)R(2)NH with trimethylaluminum in n-hexane. Further reaction of (2,6-i-Pr2C6H3)N(SiMe(3))AlMe(2) with 2 equiv of trimethyltin fluoride in toluene affords the aminoalane difluoride (2,6-i-Pr2C6H3)N(SiMe(3))AlF2. An X-ray structural determination of (2,6-i-Pr2C6H3)N(SiMe(3))AlMe(2) shows it to be dimeric with bridging methyl and terminal amino groups. The aminoalane difluoride (2,6-i-Pr2C6H3)N(SiMe(3))AlF2 is trimeric with a six-membered alternating aluminum-fluorine ring. Terminal fluorine atoms are located above and below the ring. Reactions of aminoalanes R(1)R(2)NAlMe(2) with 2 equiv of trimethyltin fluoride in THF yield the monomeric THF adducts R(1)R(2)NAlF(2) . THF
