    Wind induced vibrations of high-rise bridge towers

    A procedure for the prediction of the response of some cable-stayed and suspension bridge towers subjected to wind loading is presented. The towers considered are those made of two vertical or nearly vertical columns connected through horizontal members. The procedure is based on the use of wind tunnel tests on sectional pressure models to characterise the aerodynamic forces acting on the tower. The calculation of the response is done by using the linearized quasi-steady theory for line-like structures. An alternative approach, making use of influence lines for the direct estimate of the generic response, is shown
