University of Trieste and CEI-ES - Italy Abstract This paper provides an overall view of the CEI (Central European Initiative) University Network. Founded in November 2003, with its headquarters in Trieste (Italy), the network aims at creating cooperation among the universities of the 17 Member States of the Initiative: Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Serbia & Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine. The Network supports the mobility of students and teachers, by implementing Joint Programmes, such as PhDs, Master’s courses, summer schools, seminars and workshops. Joint Programme proposals are to fall within the three main Areas of Cooperation (Economics, Public Administration and Communication including IT), they should involve at least 2 universities belongin
Civil Service: Ambitious Targets, Obsolete Organisation
Civil Service: Ambitious Targets, Obsolete Organisation Cusina L., Di Biase R., Paolino L., Zicari S. University of Trieste (Italy) Abstract The Italian Civil Service is undergoing a fast-paced process of innovation. The aim is to meet the needs of users and improve the working environment. To achieve these goals the Civil Service is asked to implement entrepreneurial procedures, either in accounting or in the organisation framework. But restrictions in public spending make this process more difficult, obliging public management to face low cost innovation and organisation change. A quite obsolete conception of the public labour market provides further difficulties and produces some economic paradoxes. The present situation is marking a turning point that represents either a challenge to take up or a risk to keep under control
This study is an attempt to show the heuristic potential of social space in the field of social movement studies with the utilization of the analytical categories ‘identity of place’ and ‘place-based identities’ for a comparative analysis of antagonistic movements in the city of Verona, promoting competing constructions of city-zenship (belonging and everyday membership to the city). While the city of Verona has come to the fore as the fortress of the far-right in the Italian peninsula and a model city for the transnational network of identitarian actors, it also demonstrates grassroots potentials for the realization of an inclusive and pluralist belonging in the everyday city life. The analysis premised on 3 years of fieldwork that included participant observation, online ethnography, in-depth interviews, archival research, and visual methods, demonstrates the ways in which collective identity and collective action of social actors are shaped by their relationship to the space in which they operate. On the one hand, an alliance of sovereignist identitarianism is united in an exclusionary territorial identity that is embodied in the inward-looking touristscape of the historical center, and on the other hand, an assemblage of progressive groups referred to as the ‘antibodies of hate’ is formed through the expansive place-based identity that they have helped establish in the outward-looking neighborhood of Veronetta. These actors author everyday struggles in shared urban spaces through practices of territorialization, transformative placemaking, and alternative representations of space that not only work to inscribe their vision of city-zenship upon such space, thereby marking cognitive boundaries of inclusion and exclusion, but also connect them with similar struggles in different settings
New Abrasive Coatings: Abraded Volume Measurements in Ceramic Ball Production
Technological progress in hybrid bearings developed high wear and abrasion resistant materials for rolling elements. The manufacturing process of bearing balls presents new challenges, as nowadays, it requires time-consuming and costly processes. In this frame, the bearing manufacturing industry is demanding improvements in materials, geometry, and processes. This work aims to investigate new abrasive coatings for grinding wheels for Si3N4 ball manufacturing. Tribological pin on disk tests are performed on samples of grinding materials (disk) versus a Si3N4 ball (pin). Two samples of specimens coated with an electrodeposited diamond and diamond-reinforced metal matrix composite are examined to measure the abrasion rate and the wear resistance of Silicon Nitride Si3N4 balls, considering the influence of sliding speed and the effect of coating deposition on diamond particle density and granulometry. The measurements estimated the specific wear coefficient k, the height wear surface h, and the wear rate u of the Si3N4 balls. The results pointed out that by increasing the sliding speed, the abraded volume increases for both the coatings. The parameters affecting the abrasion effectiveness of both the coatings are the surface roughness, the abrasive particle dimension, and the sliding speed

New uses of natural products: fashion design
The LANDESIGN ® Research Group (scientific managers Sabina Martusciello., Maria Dolores Morelli) has activated the section "ACTIVEMODESIGN" starting from the threefold meaning of habitus, (habit, way of life, living, dressing) is composed of various-fashion actions responding mainly to the "ecological" requirement in the sense of use of natural materials produced on site (e.g. use of hemp already cultivated and in the working land).
ACTIVEMODesign is a creative cosmetic activity that is oriented towards the Mediterranean territory offering a new lifestyle which perceives economy differently and progresses through "the culture of waste".
ACTIVEMODesign is the design of accessories, clothing, packages, aids and decors aimed at cosmo-ethics: it produces healthy products and actions related to people and environmental products, "reparative and reinforcing stem cells of the evolutionary processes." Actions and products coming from "culture" and "knowledge" of the territory, whose potential is to be optimized and become a subject of the project.
This SOCIAL DESIGN COLLECTION is characterized from accessories, clothes, containers, supports and furniture for the” benessere” considered as " (da ben – essere = “stare bene” or “esistere bene”), (OMS, 1948): designed and prototyped in respecting the environment and the welfare of the people, aimed at the cosmo-ethics, actions and processes related benefits to people and the environment (ACTIVEMODesign).
For example KOSMESIS (LANDESIGN ® with Teresa De Biase, Raffaella Marzocchi), the research documented ethical actions that take on aesthetic value, in the sense and relationship, dual, typical of Greek culture, from where the name; FlavaAlba collection (LANDESIGN ® with Sefora Maria di Palo and Simona Cupido) uses the fabric from the family of Cannabinacee, with their breathable, hypoallergenic properties, produced locally, therefore economical, naturally colored with the Hyperic (Hypericum perforatum L.) and the coppered onion (Allium cepa) for a collection of natural garments for babies, or table (LANDESIGN ® with Lucia Uccello) that uses the same principles (colours and natural fabrics) with comfortable solutions for the clothes of teenagers.
"Active" text clothes made with foods, fibres impregnated with natural essences, technical fabrics and smart in order to produce "beneficial processes" related to senses and communication, linked to the power of touch, as in the collection of the Synesthesia (LANDESIGN ® with Anna Candela)
