An empirical analysis of vehicle time headways on rural two-lane two-way roads
This paper presents the results carried out from an experimental analysis focused on vehicle time headways distributions with reference to two-lane two-way roads. Our attention has been focused on roads localized in Northern Italy and characterized by different levels of traffic; using data collected by inductive loops and radar sensors, a wide set of observations has been made available. The statistical analysis of these data has allowed to test a set of headway distribution models highlighting their goodness-of-fit with reference to the empirical distributions

Development of an information system supporting transport planning.
This note describes the activities of design and development of an information system which support transportation system planning and control in the Venice District territorial ambit. On this purpose an accurate preliminary analysis of the existing information sources and standards has been carried out along with a study on the formats required/produced as input/output by widely used transportation analysis software.
The research has analysed the information provided by hierarchical networks (HN) generally available on the market with regard to the typical needs of the activity of transportation systems planning and control.
The information system developed has permitted the integration between HN and the various representations of the network required for different analysis aims (e.g. private or public transport). These representations’ relationship has been organized properly in order to maximize the possible usage of heterogeneous sources.
In the note, the relevant stages of the system development dealing with the supply of the transportation system and its topology are described
