De nobis ipsis silemus. Sulla morte di Immanuel Kant
The description of Immanuel Kant’s last days and of the phrenological and craniometric studies on his skull gives to the Author the opportunity to discuss the philosophical validity of biographies and more in general to re-examine the vexata quaestio of the relationship between philosophy and history of philosophy. In this short essay the Author supports the thesis that, for the most part, any reference to the biographies of philosophers is essentially no use – their works have to be judged as such, independently of whoever wrote them and also to a large extent from the historical context – and that there is need to get back to a philosophical history of philosophy, while still maintain the very rigorous approach to which the history of philosophy has accustomed us in the last few decades
Peer reviewe
Future Conflicts Are Inevitable: Causes of Interpersonal Conflicts According to Immanuel Kant and Thomas R. Malthus
The paper entitled “Future Conflicts Are Inevitable: Causes of Interpersonal Conflicts According to Immanuel Kant and Thomas R. Malthus” is composed of four parts. The first part outlines the validity and importance of the issue of interpersonal conflicts, as well as the need to unveil their deepest causes. The second fragment is devoted to the vision of discord between people, developed by Immanuel Kant. The author emphasizes that, in the opinion of the German philosopher, due to the “unsociable sociability” of people, one has to take into account the impossibility of eliminating conflicts from interpersonal relations. The next part presents the concept proposed by Thomas R. Malthus concerning the causes of conflicts. The author observes that the Anglican cleric, supplementing Kant’s reflections, identifies non-human conflict-generating factors, among which the key factor is an indelible shortage in the environment of goods and values desired by people. To summarize the reflections made, in the last part of the paper, the author emphasizes that in the light of Kant’s and Malthus’ observations, it seems easier to understand why the dream of building a world entirely free of interpersonal conflicts is a utopian ide
Contributions to automorphisms of affine spaces
We study aspects of the group G_n of polynomial automorphisms of the affine space A^n, the so-called affine Cremona group. Shafarevich introduced on G_n the structure of an ind-variety, an infinite-dimensional analogon to a (classical) variety. The aim of this thesis is to study G_n within the framework of ind-varieties. The thesis consists of five articles. In the following we summarize them.
1. On the Topologies on ind-Varieties and related Irreducibility Questions.
In the literature there are two ways of endowing an affine ind-variety with a topology. One possibility is due to Shafarevich and the other due to Kambayashi. We specify a large class of affine ind-varieties where these two topologies differ. We give an example of an affine ind-variety that is reducible with respect to Shafarevich’s topology, but irreducible with respect to Kambayashi’s topology. Moreover, we give a counter-example of a supposed irreducibility criterion given by Shafarevich which is different from a counter-example given by Homma. We finish the article with an irreducibility criterion similar to the one given by Shafarevich.
2. On Automorphisms of the Affine Cremona Group (joint with Hanspeter Kraft)
We show that every automorphism of the group G_n is inner up to field automorphisms when restricted to the subgroup TG_n of tame automorphisms. This generalizes a result of Julie Déserti who proved this in dimension n = 2 where all automorphisms are tame, i.e. TG_2 = G_2. The methods are different, based on arguments from algebraic group actions.
3. A Note on Automorphisms of the Affine Cremona Group
Let G be an ind-group and let U be a unipotent ind-subgroup. We prove that an abstract automorphism f: G -> G maps U isomorphically onto a unipotent ind-subgroup of G, provided that f fixes a closed torus T in G that normalizes U and the action of T on U by conjugation fixes only the neutral element. As an application we generalize the main result of the article "On Automorphisms of the Affine Cremona Group" as follows: If an abstract automorphism of G_3 fixes the subgroup of tame automorphisms TG_3, then it also fixes a whole family of non-tame automorphisms (including the Nagata automorphism).
4. Automorphisms of the Plane Preserving a Curve (joint with Jérémy Blanc)
We study the group of automorphisms of the affine plane preserving some given curve, over any field. The group is proven to be algebraic, except in the case where the curve is a bunch of parallel lines. Moreover, a classification of the groups of positive dimension occuring is also given in the case where the curve is geometrically irreducible and the field is perfect.
5. Centralizer of a Unipotent Automorphism in the Affine Cremona Group
Let g be a unipotent element of G_3. We describe the centralizer Cent(g) inside G_3. First, we treat the case when g is a modified translation. In the other case, we describe the subset Cent(g)_u of unipotent elements of Cent(g) and prove that it is a closed normal subgroup of Cent(g). Moreover, we show that Cent(g) is the semi-direct product of Cent(g)_u with a closed algebraic subgroup R of Cent(g). Finally, we prove that the subgroup of Cent(g) consisting of those elements that induce the identity on the algebraic quotient Spec O(A^3)^g form a characteristic subgroup of Cent(g)

This research is motivated by Immanuel Kant's thoughts regarding his efforts to reconcile the prolonged conflict of rationalism and empiricism groups, which in the future Kant's thinking became the forerunner of the initial foothold of the thinkers after him. The research method that the author uses is qualitative with a library research approach. The data collection technique in this study is a documentation technique, namely by collecting important data files that support research. The result of this research is that Immanuel Kant's criticism, philosophy of criticism is a combination of rationalism and empiricism. This school of criticism is also known as Kant's criticism, because Kant was the first to criticize and analyze the two sources of knowledge and combine them. During his 80 years (w. 1804) of life, Kant produced many works, including: (1) his 1781 essay on a critique of pure reason. (2) 1788 his essay on the critique of the ratio of practice. (3) 1790 his essay on the critique of the ratio of judgment/judgment, and Immanuel Kant's Epistemology of criticism, Immanuel Kant's thoughts in the field of epistemology are fully devoted in his work entitled “Critique of Pure Reason”. Kant's thoughts inspired many philosophers after him to present the idea of human knowledge.

The research method that the author uses is qualitative with a library research approach. The data collection technique in this study is a documentation technique, namely by collecting important data files that support research, both primary sources such as the book Characters of Philosophers and the Golden Era of Philosophy by Nurnaningsih Nawawi as well as other secondary sources that support the topic of discussion. The result of this research is that Immanuel Kant's criticism, philosophy of criticism is a combination of rationalism and empiricism. This school of criticism is also known as Kant's criticism, because Kant was the first to criticize and analyze the two sources of knowledge and combine them. Then, Immanuel Kant, Flashes of Life and his major works, Immanuel Kant was born in Konigsberg, East Prussia (now Germany), on April 22, 1724. Born as the fourth of six children of his father, of Scottish descent. Her mother is of German descent. Kant's parents were saddle-makers and staunch followers of the Pietism movement. During his 80 (1804 w) years of life, Kant produced many works, including: (1) his 1781 essay on a critique of pure reason. (2) 1788 his essay on the critique of the ratio of practice. Kant's thoughts inspired many philosophers after him to present the idea of human knowledge. (2) 1788 karangannya tentang kritik atas rasio praktik.
