Cross-Cultural Meta-Analyses
No full textIn the enormous collection of cross-cultural data that have been published during the last few decades it is difficult to perceive patterns. There is a clear need for systematizing the vast amount of cross-cultural studies and for developing models that explain cross-cultural differences in psychology. Two methods of cross-cultural meta-analysis can be distinguished. First, the instrument-based method of comparing data for one instrument across countries is suitable for instruments which have been administered in many countries. Second, a domain-based meta-analysis used a thematic domain from which culture-comparative studies are sampled instead of one specific instrument or method
A Cross-Licensing System Discourages R&D Investments In Completely Complementary Technologies
No full textWe consider the research and development (R&D) investment com petition of duopolistic firms in completely complementary technologies. By "completely complementary technologies," we mean that no firm can produce the goods without both of the technologies. We derive the investments competition equilibria in R&D of the two completely complementary technologies with and without a cross-licensing system. By comparing R&D investment levels in the two equilibria, we show that the cross-licensing system discourages the R&D invest ments when the duopolistic firms produce goods by using the two completely complementary technologies.completely complementary technologies, cross-licensing system, R&D investments

CVTresh: R Package for Level-Dependent Cross-Validation Thresholding
No full textThe core of the wavelet approach to nonparametric regression is thresholding of wavelet coefficients. This paper reviews a cross-validation method for the selection of the thresholding value in wavelet shrinkage of Oh, Kim, and Lee (2006), and introduces the R package CVThresh implementing details of the calculations for the procedures. This procedure is implemented by coupling a conventional cross-validation with a fast imputation method, so that it overcomes a limitation of data length, a power of 2. It can be easily applied to the classical leave-one-out cross-validation and K-fold cross-validation. Since the procedure is computationally fast, a level-dependent cross-validation can be developed for wavelet shrinkage of data with various sparseness according to levels.
