Abstract
BACKGROUND: The status of the axillary lymph nodes is the most important prognostic factor in breast cancer, and the findings of axillary node dissection remain the gold standard for the patients staging and prognosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of Tc-99m sestamibi scintigraphy in the detection of axillary node involvement.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-nine patients (age range: 32-72 years) with breast cancer were studied. Dynamic images (1-20 minutes post-injection of the radiopharmaceutical) followed by multiple planar views and tomographic images were performed. Final diagnosis was achieved by histology after surgery.
RESULTS: Metastatic axillary lymph node involvement was present in 21 patients: sensitivity was 81% (17/21) for tomographic and 61.9% (13/21) for planar images; specificity was 92.9% (26/28) and 96.4% (27/28), respectively.
CONCLUSIONS: Tc-99m sestamibi imaging is a promising noninvasive method to detect axillary node metastases in patients with breast cancer, tomography appears more sensitive than planar views.

Abstract
Planar scintimammography with 99Tcm-sestamibi (99Tcm-MIBI) has been shown to be useful in diagnosing breast carcinoma. The aim of this study was to compare single photon emission tomography (SPET) and planar imaging for scintimammography with 99Tcm-MIBI in the detection of primary breast cancer and axillary lymph node involvement. Sixty-three females with mammographically suspicious lesions and 12 controls were evaluated. Dynamic images were acquired commencing immediately after the injection of the radiopharmaceutical, followed by multiple planar images in the supine and prone positions plus SPET supine imaging. A final histopathological diagnosis was achieved after surgery. A total of 66 breast lesions were considered. No focal uptake of 99Tcm-MIBI was observed in the breasts or axillas of the controls. In the patients with breast cancer, the sensitivity was 92.9% (39/42) for SPET, 71.4% (30/42) for supine and 85.7% (36/42) for prone planar imaging, respectively; the specificity was 87.5% for SPET and 91.6% for the planar scans. Metastatic axillary lymph node involvement was seen in 19 patients: the sensitivity was 84.2% (16/19) for SPET and 63.2% (12/19) for planar images; the specificity was 91.3% and 95.7% respectively. Our results confirm the high diagnostic accuracy of 99Tcm scintimammography in the diagnosis of breast cancer, and suggest that SPET is more sensitive than planar images, especially in detecting axillary lymph node involvement.

Si è passati da un sistema produttivo, i cui simboli erano la catena di montaggio e l’operaio-massa, ad un modello organizzativo il cui riferimento è la connessione in rete nella quale l’operaio-processo diviene l’attore principale (Bell, 1991). Un fattore importante nel cambiamento del lavoro è rappresentato da una serie di caratteristiche che definiscono le organizzazioni delle aziende che operano nella new economy. Le organizzazioni seguono infatti nuovi modelli organizzativi caratterizzati da nuove priorità: l’importanza del capitale umano, l’orario flessibile, una particolare cura per l’ambiente ed il clima lavorativo, l’impiego delle nuove tecnologie, il ruolo fondamentale giocato dalla motivazione dei lavoratori e dall’appartenenza all’ideologia aziendale, il lavoro in team. Quello che è stato il modello del lavoro tipico, sul quale si basava il sistema di relazioni industriali e del diritto del lavoro è andato a poco a poco perdendo rilievo rispetto alle forme di lavoro conosciute come “atipiche”, per contrapposizione al modello del lavoro tipico, appunto
Circularly-polarized SIW antenna for novel backscattering-based X-band communication systems
RFID-inspired backscattering modulation implemented over other technologies promises low-power identification and communication among things. Recently, the feasibility of RFID over 10.525 GHz Microwave Motion Sensor (MMS) has been proved through the design and realization of a prototype of both reader and transponder. The former was provided with a simple and not particularly miniaturized 4-element array of patch antennas. In this work, a compact 10.525 GHz antenna in SIW technology conceived for MMS-compatible X-band transponder is presented. Both antenna directivity and circular polarization have been optimized to guarantee a robust communication while saving power. The antenna shows a very satisfying performance, with a-10 dB input matching frequency bandwidth equal to 130MHz, high efficiency, and an Axial-Ratio 3 dB bandwidth of lower than 5%

Melting of PCM in a thermal energy storage unit: Numerical investigation and effect of nanoparticle enhancement
The present paper describes the analysis of the melting process in a single vertical shell-and-tube latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES), unit and it is directed at understanding the thermal performance of the system. The study is realized using a computational fluid-dynamic (CFD) model that takes into account of the phase-change phenomenon by means of the enthalpy method. Fluid flow is fully resolved in the liquid phase-change material (PCM) in order to elucidate the role of natural convection. The unsteady evolution of the melting front and the velocity and temperature fields is detailed. Temperature profiles are analyzed and compared with experimental data available in the literature. Other relevant quantities are also monitored, including energy stored and heat flux exchanged between PCM and HTF. The results demonstrate that natural convection within PCM and inlet HTF temperature significantly affects the phase-change process. Thermal enhancement through the dispersion of highly conductive nanoparticles in the base PCM is considered in the second part of the paper. Thermal behavior of the LHTES unit charged with nano-enhanced PCM is numerically analyzed and compared with the original system configuration.
