The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with RB Kelley. Kelley joined the Army Air Forces and attended gunnery school in 1944. Upon completion, he was assigned to a B-17 crew in England, where he served as a ball turret gunner, his gunsight doubling as a camera. On his 14th mission, his plane was shot down over Dresden and glided another 100 miles before crash-landing in Southern France. Kelley says that his pilot always made rough landings, and the crash landing was smoother than typical for him. No one was hurt, and Kelley completed 35 missions by February 1945. He returned to the States and was discharged at the end of the war
