    Enterprise modeling:process and REA value chain perspective

    The paper focuses on enterprise business value chain modeling as an alternative to business process modeling. Well known REA methodology proposed by McCarthy and Geerts is used as the basic modeling framework. The research presented in the paper results in a generic semantic enterprise model using REA ontology. This rather static model is then converted into UML activity, sequence and state diagrams thus achieving dynamic view of the REA model. The dynamic REA view connects the process model and the value chain perspectives. It is shown that by using REA model transition called dynamization not only process models at task level can be achieved but also a consistency check of the REA model can be accomplished. We used three transverse titanium plates to stabilise the chest wall and provide support for a polytetrafluoroethylene dual mesh, which was used to cover the chest wall defect.     Breast cancer is known to be a hormone-dependent disease, and estrogens through an interaction with estrogen receptor (ER) enhance the proliferative and metastatic activity of breast tumor cells. Here we show a critical role of transactivation of BIG3, brefeldin A-inhibited guanine nucleotide-exchange protein 3, in activation of the estrogen/ER signaling in breast cancer cells. Knocking-down of BIG3 expression with small-interfering RNA (siRNA) drastically suppressed the growth of breast cancer cells. Subsequent co-immunoprecipitation and immunoblotting assays revealed an interaction of BIG3 with prohibitin 2/repressor of estrogen receptor activity (PHB2/REA). When BIG3 was absent, stimulation of estradiol caused the translocation of PHB2/REA to the nucleus, enhanced the interaction of PHB2/REA and ER[alpha], and resulted in suppression of the ER[alpha]; transcriptional activity. On the other hand, when BIG3 was present, BIG3 trapped PHB2/REA in cytoplasm and inhibited its nuclear translocation, and caused enhancement of ER[alpha]; transcriptional activity. Our results imply that BIG3 overexpression is one of the important mechanisms causing the activation of the estrogen/ER[alpha]; signaling pathway in the hormone-related growth of breast cancer cells

    Morphing of metallic wing structures has fascinated generations of researchers; numerous and sometimes bizarre architectures have been proposed, tailored to specific end-applications and aircraft type. Although different for layout, all of them can be categorized in two basic groups: mechanized architectures and compliant mechanisms.Mechanized architectures implement morphing through the rigid-body motion of stiff subcomponents interconnected by suitably designed kinematic chains and actuation leverages.Each subcomponent of the kinematic chain is sized to provide its own contribution to the adsorption of the external solicitations arising in operative conditions; actuators and actuation transmission line are sized to enable the motion of the system and to preserve given shape configurations while counteracting aerodynamic loads with the minimum need of power.Compliant mechanisms involve the deformation of structural elements to enable the required shape-change; mechanical properties of the structure have to be properly distributed in order to assure adequate morphing compliance and adequate stiffness to withstand external loads.In this chapter, the design philosophy behind each type of morphing structure has been presented, together with practical applications to wing trailing edge camber adaptation.By referring to similar end-application, the adopted design strategies and obtained outcomes are compared, thus better highlighting the advantages and weak points of each morphing solutio

    Background and aim of the work: subcutaneous Achilles tendon lesions are common degenerative tendon tears, often related to sport activities, multiple pharmacotherapies and internal medical comorbidities. Neglect an Achilles tendon lesion can affect walk ability, while neglect a bilateral lesion could really lead to a serious limitation of self-sufficiency in daily living. We report a case of chronic bilateral Achilles tendon lesion successful treated with LARS augmentation, along with some clinical considerations concerning the clinical outcome. Methods: we report a case of a chronic bilateral Achilles tendon lesion in an elderly man with multiple comorbidities, successful treated with LARS reconstruction, along with some considerations concerning possible intraoperative issues and the clinical outcome. Results: good functional result was obtained as documented with pre and postoperative American Orthopedic Foot And Ankle Society Scale and the “Foot And Ankle Disability Index”, without complications. Conclusions: a bilateral Achilles tendon rupture is a very disabling pathology, that needs prompt diagnosis and treatment to prevent further complications. LARS reconstruction could be an effective method in selected patients to avoid some intraoperative issues related to patient comorbidities and ability to follow complex postoperative rehabilitation protocols.
