Thermal response of target tissues to laser irradiation. An optical and thermal model applied to vein wall
Sourcerecord Id Scopus 2375
Endovenous laser treatment for great saphenous vein appears to be an useful alternative to conventional surgery in treatment of advanced varicose veins, in ambulatory regimen too. A recurring problem in laser applications is estimating the thermal response of target tissues to laser irradiation. This typically involves using an optical model to determine the distribution of absorbed laser energy and then using a thermal model to establish the temperature during and after laser irradiation. In the present work we have calculated the power irradiation of the walls of vessel, hypothesising a diameter of the vein cm 0.8-1.5, a length cm 70-90 and haematic flow equal zero. We used Lambert-Beer law, assuming a cylindrical symmetry in the incoming intensity irradiation (I-o), as in the case in the TEM00 mode. Omitting details we calculated a power irradiation, depending on the vein diameter, of 10-20 watt using diode laser 980 nm. This study offers high importance data in order to foresee the effective transfer of thermal damage to the vein wall through absorption of laser energy.http://apps.webofknowledge.com/full_record.do?product=UA&search_mode=GeneralSearch&qid=1&SID=Q1i@gpCm9b3mdEmO@n6&page=2&doc=1

Endovenous laser treatment of great saphenous vein with a 980 nm DIODE LASER. Early and mid-term results
Abstract: We report the early and mid-term results in the treatment of the great saphenous vein (GSV) by endovenous laser diode 980 nm. Despite a rapid spread of the technique, not all is known about the laser-tissue interaction in endovenous laser treatment (EVLT). We developed this study to assess the safety and efficacy of EVLT, a recent percutaneous technique for permanent occlusion of the incompetent GSV

M-DUST: an Innovative Low-Cost Smart PM Sensor
In this work, we present M-DUST, a novel low-cost and real-time smart monitoring sensor for Particulate Matter (PM) emission measurement. It is based on the Tyndall scattering process to count particles concentration. A comparison on different methods to evaluate particles concentration has been discussed. A mechanical filter is used to select the particulate matter with the appropriate cut-off aerodynamic diameter. The presented device is an intelligent sensor thanks to its features, such as: ability to make self-diagnosis, self-adaptation and transparency to communication interface. Tests are carried out in the Italian city of Taranto by using non-toxic substances and analysis chamber
Ambientalismo, Eco-Socialismo o Vangelo? Ecologia e depoliticizzazione in Papa Francesco
Integrated geophysical survey for the geological structural and hydrogeothermal study of the North-western Gargano promontory (Southern Italy)
A multimethodological geophysical survey was performed in the north-western part of the Gargano promontory to study the geological structural setting and the underground fluid flow characteristics. The area has a complex tectonics with some magmatic outcrops and shallow low-enthalpy waters. Electrical, seismic reflection, gravimetric and magnetic surveys were carried out to reconstruct the geological structures; and in order to delineate the hydrogeothermal characteristics of the area, the self-potential survey was mainly used. Moreover magnetic and self-potential measurements were also performed in the Lesina lake. The joint three-dimensional interpretation of the geophysical data disclosed a large horst and graben structure covering a large part of the area. In the central part of the horst a large ramified volcanic body was modelled. The models show some intrusions rising from it to or near to the surface. The main structures are well deep-seated in the Crust and along them deep warm fluids rise as the SP data interpretation indicates
