REPORTA HIGHWAY PROBLEM 1-888-877-6237 1-888-VS-ROADS My thoughts... Revered c^ordouv Crfti/tch I told those at church some time ago that Reese came up to me at lunch one Sunday and asked me how to get to heaven. I was kind of dumbstruck by the question, especially as Reese is not yet 4. I gave a suitably glib answer, but I continued to think about it and on the next Sunday I gave a slightly more • definitive answer. I have been thinking about the question on and off ever since. I suppose it takes on a slightly different sense of urgency at 72 than it does at age 4. All the songs and hymns that we sing Sunday by Sunday about heaven and the great reunions with those we have loved and have gone before us. But that doesn't answer the question of how we get to heaven. Last month, we had our usual Maundy Thursday dinner and went on to commemorate the Last Supper of Jesus and His disciples. At that time Jesus gave us His directions for eternal life. This is His summary of the great Commandments. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." If we can do just these two things everything else will fall into place. What surer path to Heaven can there be? All the promises that we have received are awaiting their fulfillment. We will be reunited with those we have loved and lost. We will, with God's help, one day reach that eternal shore. Whatever age we are now, we are fortunate to have lived and grown up in such a time of medical advances that have assisted us in living this long. And we look forward to even greater advances that will offer longer and better lives to us. We must always remember that our time on earth is limited and we must do our part while we are here. But this life will surely end one day and we will die. The perishable cannot inherit the imperishable. That is how we get to heaven. He wasn't a rocket scientist, and he had no claim to fame. He had floppy ears, big feet, and a terrible raspy voice. But if you wanted friendship, there'd be no better choice. Then one day Bart passed away, and went to his Heavenly place. And a brand new puppy by the name of Oscar, came to fill his space. He wasn't very big, but all his markings sure resembled Bart, And it didn't take him very long to find a place in your heart. They also had a minature Donkey called Harry, for his long grey shaggy hair. He and Oscar formed a friendship, you would say they were quite an odd pair. Anytime that you saw Harry, whether grazing or munching hay, Oscar was probably by his side, or at least not far away. When Oscar finally got bigger, and wasn't too clumsy to run, •He discovered the game of chasing cats, it seemed like a lot of fun. However, the tables turned just about dark, one cool summer night. When a big old Tom Cat made a decision, he'd just turn and fight. Now this was not in Oscars plans, and he certainly wasn't prepared. It all happened in such a flash, he didn't have time to even get scared. He thought that maybe old Tom was just going to stop and spar. But in about a split second he realized, it was going away too far. Now this old seasoned warrior certainly didn't obey the rules. And he definitely posessed the very best of superior fighting tools. He had absolutely no honor, and he never considered fighting fair. It was like fighting a bolt of greased lightning, covered over with hair. It didn't take Oscar very long to decide he couldn't win, He thought he'd be very lucky, if he just got out with his skin. Harry saw poor Oscar, as he was wrestled to the ground. He never thought that in his life, he'd hear such a terrible sound. Oscar had punctured ears, scratched-up face, and a couple of chewed-up legs. For two or three days after, I'm quite sure he could have walked on eggs. He slunk away to find a spot, seme* safe place he could hide, Where he could lick his painful wounds and swallow his damaged pride. He decided right then and there, that he'd never chase another cat, A dog could maybe lose his life, in a one sided battle like that. Now when this old Tom comes around, he gets a big wide berth, There's just no way that Oscar will trespass on that cats' earth. The pain's all gone, the wounds have healed, and the hair's grown in again. But every time Oscar sees that cat, he sure recalls all the pain. Someone said they think that cats have developed a keen sense of humor, Oscars' scars prove that's not true, it's just a dangerous rumor. 7 / &-rru±.Student Employment Opportunity Summer Reading Program Assistant At Milo Municipal Library Duties: - help the librarian plan the children’s summer reading activities (the theme this year is “Bugs in Space”) - conduct children’s activities that may include reading stories, playing games, craft and science activities - help with general library duties when children are not at the library Hours and wages: - 6 hours per week for 9 weeks - Thursdays during July and August (We would like you to be available for at least seven of those Thursdays. Characteristics of stakeholder involvement in systematic and rapid reviews: a methodological review in the area of health services research

    No full text
OBJECTIVE: Engaging stakeholders in reviews is considered to generate more relevant evidence and to facilitate dissemination and use. As little is known about stakeholder involvement, we assessed the characteristics of their engagement in systematic and rapid reviews and the methodological quality of included studies. Stakeholders were people with a particular interest in the research topic. DESIGN: Methodological review. SEARCH STRATEGY: Four databases (Medline, Embase, Cochrane database of systematic reviews, databases of the University of York, Center for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD)) were searched based on an a priori protocol. Four types of reviews (Cochrane and non-Cochrane systematic reviews, rapid and CRD rapid reviews) were retrieved between January 2011 and October 2015, pooled by potential review type and duplicates excluded. Articles were randomly ordered and screened for inclusion and exclusion criteria until 30 reviews per group were reached. Their methodological quality was assessed using AMSTAR and stakeholder characteristics were collected. RESULTS: In total, 57 822 deduplicated citations were detected with potential non-Cochrane systematic reviews being the biggest group (56 986 records). We found stakeholder involvement in 13% (4/30) of Cochrane, 20% (6/30) of non-Cochrane, 43% (13/30) of rapid and 93% (28/30) of CRD reviews. Overall, 33% (17/51) of the responding contact authors mentioned positive effects of stakeholder involvement. A conflict of interest statement remained unmentioned in 40% (12/30) of non-Cochrane and in 27% (8/30) of rapid reviews, but not in Cochrane or CRD reviews. At most, half of non-Cochrane and rapid reviews mentioned an a priori study protocol in contrast to all Cochrane reviews. CONCLUSION: Stakeholder engagement was not general practice, except for CRD reviews, although it was more common in rapid reviews. Reporting factors, such as including an a priori study protocol and a conflict of interest statement should be considered in conjunction with involving stakeholders

Cancer Screening – Prerequesites for a Successful and Meaningful Screening Program Abstract. Benefits and harms of cancer screening should be carefully assessed based on evidence, put into local context and weighed against each other. The success of cancer screening programs depends on many factors beyond the evidence, such as participation rates, the organization and the quality of the program. This article highlights the epidemiologic prerequisites for a cancer screening and explains how a successful screening program is designed

Efficacy of a digital lifestyle intervention on health-related QUAlity of life in non-small cell LUng CAncer survivors following inpatient rehabilitation: protocol of the QUALUCA Swiss multicentre randomised controlled trial.

    No full text
INTRODUCTION Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) survivors suffer from impaired physical and psychological functioning and reduced health-related quality of life (HRQoL) that persist after active treatment ends. Sustaining rehabilitation benefits, promoting a healthy lifestyle and facilitating self-management at home require a multifaceted aftercare programme. We aim to investigate the effect of a 12-week digital lifestyle intervention on HRQoL and lifestyle-related outcomes in NSCLC survivors after completion of inpatient rehabilitation. METHODS AND ANALYSIS QUAlity of life in LUng CAncer Survivors (QUALUCA) is a multicentre randomised controlled trial that follows a hybrid type 1 design. We randomly allocate participants in a 1:1 ratio to the intervention group (digital lifestyle intervention) or the control group (standard care) using block randomisation stratified by tumour stage and study site. Four accredited Swiss inpatient rehabilitation centres recruit participants. Key inclusion criteria are a diagnosis of NSCLC, an estimated life expectancy of ≥6 months and access to a smartphone or tablet. The 12-week intervention comprises physical activity, nutrition and breathing/relaxation, delivered through a mobile application (app). The primary outcome is the change in HRQoL from baseline (1 week after rehabilitation) to follow-up (3 months after baseline), assessed by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30 (EORTC QLQ-C30). Secondary outcomes include body mass index, self-reported physical activity, exercise capacity, risk of low protein intake, appetite, psychological distress, cancer-related fatigue, enablement and self-rated health. Explanatory outcomes in the intervention group include app usability, acceptability, appropriateness, and feasibility of the intervention, experiences and satisfaction with the intervention, and app usage data. We aim to enrol 88 participants. For the main statistical analysis, we will use analysis of covariance, adjusted for baseline measures, stratification variables, age and sex. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The Ethics Committees of the Canton of Zurich (lead), the Canton of Bern and Northwest and Central Switzerland approved the study (2023-00245). We will disseminate study results to researchers, health professionals, study participants and relevant organisations, and through publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Blending citizen science with natural language processing and machine learning: Understanding the experience of living with multiple sclerosis.

    No full text
The emergence of new digital technologies has enabled a new way of doing research, including active collaboration with the public ('citizen science'). Innovation in machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) has made automatic analysis of large-scale text data accessible to study individual perspectives in a convenient and efficient fashion. Here we blend citizen science with innovation in NLP and ML to examine (1) which categories of life events persons with multiple sclerosis (MS) perceived as central for their MS; and (2) associated emotions. We subsequently relate our results to standardized individual-level measures. Participants (n = 1039) took part in the 'My Life with MS' study of the Swiss MS Registry which involved telling their story through self-selected life events using text descriptions and a semi-structured questionnaire. We performed topic modeling ('latent Dirichlet allocation') to identify high-level topics underlying the text descriptions. Using a pre-trained language model, we performed a fine-grained emotion analysis of the text descriptions. A topic modeling analysis of totally 4293 descriptions revealed eight underlying topics. Five topics are common in clinical research: 'diagnosis', 'medication/treatment', 'relapse/child', 'rehabilitation/wheelchair', and 'injection/symptoms'. However, three topics, 'work', 'birth/health', and 'partnership/MS' represent domains that are of great relevance for participants but are generally understudied in MS research. While emotions were predominantly negative (sadness, anxiety), emotions linked to the topics 'birth/health' and 'partnership/MS' was also positive (joy). Designed in close collaboration with persons with MS, the 'My Life with MS' project explores the experience of living with the chronic disease of MS using NLP and ML. Our study thus contributes to the body of research demonstrating the potential of integrating citizen science with ML-driven NLP methods to explore the experience of living with a chronic condition
