Assemblages of herb-dwelling spiders (Araneae) of various steppe types in Ukraine and the Central Chernozem region of Russia

    No full text
A total of 107 spider species from 15 families were recorded in the herbaceous vegetation of the steppe ecosystems of Ukraine and the Central Chernozem region of Russia. Araneidae, Thomisidae, Salticidae and Theridiidae were the most species-rich. The species composition depended on the steppe type; adjacent forest habitats influenced steppe fauna in the forest-steppe and northern part of the steppe natural zone. The number of generalist, forest and wetland dwelling species in the steppe vegetation showed a tendency to decrease towards the south. Dominance of herb-dwelling spiders was specific to each steppe type; no single species was found to predominate in all the steppe habitats

Millimeter-Wave Surface Impedance Characterization of HTS Films and Single Crystals Using Quasi-Optical Sapphire Resonators

    No full text
High-Q sapphire quasi-optical dielectric resonators (QDRs) excited on whispering-gallery modes are key techniques for accurate characterization in millimeter (mm) wavelength range of surface impedance of HTS large-area films and can be useful for impedance characterization of small HTS single crystals, including various unconventional superconductors. Hemispherical QDR-based technique for mm impedance characterization of HTS films is analysed theoretically and confirmed experimentally. Such an approach can be applied to QDR of modified forms. The temperature dependences of the YBaCuO films resistance properties using hemispherical resonator and the iron-pnictide single-crystal impedance properties using radially-slotted one are measured in Ka-band

In the present text the author reproduces twenty-seven unpublished documents dated between 1701 and 1774. These papers prove that during the reign of Felipe V the Jesuit Royal Confessionary bore the final responsibility for transferring prelates or filling vacant bishoprics.

Graded Gyroid Structures for Load Bearing Orthopedic Implants

    No full text
The availability of advanced tools able to model complex geometries along with the relaxing of the constraints related to the manufacturing technologies are heavily transforming the design approach in many fields, including healthcare. The focus of this paper is on the optimization of porous lightweight cellular geometries in the orthopedic implants design: lattice structures have proven to fulfill the biological, mechanical, and technological constraints required in designing load bearing devices. The aim is to collect the information provided by the related literature to describe the effects induced by the selection of parameters designing lattice gyroid structures for orthopedic implants

Variants in ADCY5 and near CCNL1 are associated with fetal growth and birth weight

    No full text
To identify genetic variants associated with birth weight, we meta-analyzed six genome-wide association (GWA) studies (n = 10,623 Europeans from pregnancy/birth cohorts) and followed up two lead signals in 13 replication studies (n = 27,591). rs900400 near LEKR1 and CCNL1 (P = 2 x 10(-35)) and rs9883204 in ADCY5 (P = 7 x 10(-15)) were robustly associated with birth weight. Correlated SNPs in ADCY5 were recently implicated in regulation of glucose levels and susceptibility to type 2 diabetes, providing evidence that the well-described association between lower birth weight and subsequent type 2 diabetes has a genetic component, distinct from the proposed role of programming by maternal nutrition. Using data from both SNPs, we found that the 9% of Europeans carrying four birth weight-lowering alleles were, on average, 113 g (95% CI 89-137 g) lighter at birth than the 24% with zero or one alleles (P(trend) = 7 x 10(-30)). The impact on birth weight is similar to that of a mother smoking 4-5 cigarettes per day in the third trimester of pregnancy
