No full text“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Siendo la Nueva España la colonia más rica y la que mayores ingresos aportaba a la metrópoli, la organización de este renglón de la economía resultaba primordial. El primer paso dado por la corona, fue la recuperación del control directo sobre los impuestos, pues el cobro de algunos de ellos lo había delegado a individuos particuhtres o a corporaciones por medio de contratos de arrendamientoo encabezamientos en los que se estipulaba el monto que se le pagaría a cambio de la concesión. Aaí, en 1754, comenzó por rescindir el contrato que tenía con el Consulado de Comerciantes de la ciudad de México para administrar las alcabalas de la capital y sus alrededores. Esta reforma fiscal fue seguida, años más tarde, por otras acciones orientadas a incrementar los ingresos de la metrópoli, entre ellas, la creación de nuevos monopolios o estancos en la producción y venta de artículos cuyas ganancias fueranredituables y que habían de ser administradas directamente por el gobierno; tales fueron los casos del tabaco y de la pólvora, que se agregaron a los ya existentes de naipes, nieve, papel sellado, sal, mercurio y lotería

Maps of current density using density-functional methods
No full textThe performance of several density-functional theory (DFT) methods for the calculation of current densities induced by a uniform magnetic field is examined. Calculations are performed using the BLYP and KT3 generalized-gradient approximations, together with the B3LYP hybrid functional. For the latter, both conventional and optimized effective potential (OEP) approaches are used. Results are also determined from coupled-cluster singles-and-doubles (CCSD) electron densities by a DFT constrained search procedure using the approach of Wu and Yang (WY). The current densities are calculated within the CTOCD-DZ2 distributed origin approach. Comparisons are made with results from Hartree-Fock (HF) theory. Several small molecules for which correlation is known to be especially important in the calculation of magnetic response properties are considered-namely, O3, CO, PN, and H2CO. As examples of aromatic and antiaromatic systems, benzene and planarized cyclooctatetraene molecules are considered, with specific attention paid to the ring current phenomenon and its Kohn-Sham orbital origin. Finally, the o -benzyne molecule is considered as a computationally challenging case. The HF and DFT induced current maps show qualitative differences, while among the DFT methods the maps show a similar qualitative structure. To assess quantitative differences in the calculated current densities with different methods, the maximal moduli of the induced current densities are compared and integration of the current densities to yield shielding constants is performed. In general, the maximal modulus is reduced in moving from HF to B3LYP and BLYP, and further reduced in moving to KT3, OEP(B3LYP), and WY(CCSD). The latter three methods offer the most accurate shielding constants in comparison with both experimental and ab initio data and hence the more reliable route to DFT calculation of induced current density in molecules. © 2008 American Institute of Physics

The author shows that, for n sufficiently large, the index of the inclusion An=(Q⊗A2n)∗A2nA1n⊂(Q⊗A2n+1)∗A2n+1A1n+1=An+1 is equal to λ (here ∗ denotes the reduced, amalgamated free product of the algebras in question). Using the random matrix model of Voiculescu, he proves that if Q is the von Neumann algebra L(F∞) of the free group with infinitely many generators, then An is isomorphic to L(F∞).
The two facts together imply the existence, for any λ in the Jones discrete series, of an irreducible subfactor of L(F∞) of index λ. This constitutes the first example of a nonhyperfinite, non-Γ II1 factor such that its Jones invariant is fully computable (the existence of nonirreducible subfactors of L(F∞) for any index ≥4 is a simple consequence of known results)

No full textThe work presented here was intended to base and present to create three costumes for the play "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. As an academic, gathered data and historiographical particular perspectives that had as one of its major outcomes data over a meeting was called "La Garçonne" and on one of the novels most widespread in history. "The Great Gatsby". As a result, there have been studies and analyzes based on articles and books of academic origin, whose authors are references in fashion, arts and sociology in order to understand historically and to base the practical work proposed by us. Finishing the project is constructed in practice three different costumes that highlight the look of the author under the character F. Scott Fitzgerald.O trabalho aqui apresentado teve como finalidade embasar e apresentar a criação de três figurinos para a obra “O Grande Gatsby” de F. Scott Fitzgerald. De caráter acadêmico, reuni dados historiográficos e perspectivas particulares que teve como um de seus maiores resultados a reunião de dados sobre um era denominada de “La Garçonne” e sobre um dos romances mais difundidos da história. “O Grande Gatsby”. Em decorrência, realizaram-se estudos e análises com base em artigos e livros de procedência acadêmica, cujos autores são referências na área de moda, artes e sociologia, no intuito de entender e embasar historicamente o trabalho prático proposto por nós. Finalizando o projeto, constrói-se em termos práticos três figurinos distintos que ressaltam o olhar da autora sob os personagem de F. Scott Fitzgerald
