In the Balkan Peninsula, 60 fish species have been introduced to date, of which 36 have become naturalized in inland waters. Since the Balkans are one of the world's 35 biodiversity hot spots, this large presence of alien fish species poses a serious threat for the stability of freshwater ecosystems and the survival of the native ichthyofauna and of aquatic biodiversity in general. The motivation for the introductions, and the historical timeline, varies among the Balkan states. Despite recent attempts to implement and align legislation aimed at preventing the introduction of potentially invasive species, and the implementation of rigorous controls of introductions and increased protection of open waters, the majority of current introductions remain intentional, primarily via aquaculture. This review article provides a historical overview of freshwater fish introductions, the motivation behind them and the current distribution of alien freshwater fishes in the Balkans. The ecological implications and future perspectives concerning alien fish species in the region are also discussed.University of Zagreb, Croatia; Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia [173025]University of Zagreb, Croatia; Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia, Grant/Award Number: 17302

Elements of Credit Policy By the Byzantine Laws VII and VII Century (Eclogue, Agricultural Law and Shipping Law)

    No full text
The author introduces us to elements of the credit policy that applied in the Byzantine Empire during the seventh and eighth centuries. Credit policy is provided through the legal texts eclogue, agrarian law and Maritime Law. The creation of the credit policy was one of the inevitable development of economic life segments of the Empire of this age. The paper gives some credit policy institutes. These are: mortgage, mortgage loans, mortgages, antihreza, borrowing money. Finally, the author concludes that these laws maintain continuity in the development of credit relations with the Roman law. Observed in the general credit policies in these three laws are not much changed from the Justinian codification

Impurity diffusion activation energies in Al from first principles

    No full text
Activation energies for vacancy-mediated impurity diffusion in face-centered-cubic aluminum have been computed ab initio for all technologically important alloying elements, as well as for most of the lanthanides. The so-called five-frequency rate model is used to establish the limiting vacancy interchange process. Many elements were shown to be limited by Al-vacancy interchanges. For these elements we showed that the diffusion activation energy is rather close to that for Al self-diffusion, and additionally the diffusion pre-exponential factor is of the same order as that for Al self-diffusion. The diffusion activation energy is shown to exhibit a linear relation with the solute partial molar volume in Al. In contrast, transition metals are shown to deviate strongly from these generalities. Diffusion of transition-metal atoms is limited by solute-vacancy interchanges that require remarkably high activation energies. Transition-metal diffusivities in Al show strong trends with the number of d-valence electrons but not with partial molar volume.Materials Science and EngineeringMechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineerin

Complementarity of Multifunctional Agriculture and Rural Development with Rural Tourism and Possibilities for their Implementation in the Republic of Serbia

    No full text
Rural economy is not strictly related to agriculture, but also includes the so-called non-agricultural income genereting activities in rural areas.. Rural areas in Serbia are characterised by spatial-geographic diversification, socio-economic devastation and relatively good ecological, cultural and historical preservation. Thus, the concept of sustainable development imposes itself as an imperative in strategic planning and is in line with the increasing demands for the development of rural tourism, because it is rural tourism provides opportunities and has the capability to connect a larger number of economic activities in rural areas. The concept of rural tourism cover two complex because it touches upon two important economic sectors: agriculture and tourism. The key question for the Republic of Serbia is determining the “gap” between the current situation and the desired objective. To this end, the paper approaches the complex problem through phases. The first step shows theoretical and methodological approach to the concept of multifunctional agriculture. Later on, the concept of rural tourism is explained with a review of the current situation, and in the end complementarity within the development of rural tourism (between agriculture and tourism) is indicated as well as the significance it would have on initiating the overall economic activities in rural areas. Expectations, based on particular countries’ experiences in the European Union, are that the application of the model of multifunctional agriculture and within it the implementation of rural tourism in areas that possess the necessary conditions, could reinforce the overall economic activities and contribute to ending the current negative trends. The state with its institutional mechanisms and development policy should play an important role in this process

This paper deals with an anonymous editor as the real author of the Byzantine agricultural encyclopedia Geoponika. The first part of the paper provides a historical view of the origin and structure of Geoponika. Some of the authors whose works preceded Geoponika are given. Editor included some of their texts in the encyclopedia. The second part deals with the problem of determining the authorship of some of the works included in Geoponika. Many of these writers and their works are unknown to us today. Thanks to the editor?s work on Geoponika their texts are at least partially preserved. Finally, in the third part, the author pays attention to the text of the anonymous editor, which was included in the Geoponika and represents his contribution to the final designing of Geoponika. Through these texts, editor wanted to familiarize the readers with his personal experiences in agriculture. There are texts, comments, opinions, and conclusions throughout the entire encyclopedia. In this way, the editor wanted to present his suggestions for improving the agricultural production to those who are interested.</jats:p

As a result of freshwater fish parasitofauna investigations, throughout the past 75 years, the number of parasitic species is presented. This paper reviews the history, current state, and tendencies of the fish parasitofauna studies in Serbian open waters. Up to now, in total 170 parasitic species have been reported. Systematic parasitofauna investigations have been carried out on 54 freshwater fish species in waters of the Danube River Basin in Serbia, also in hill-mountanious watercourses, lakes and salmonid fishpond of Sjenicko-Pesterska plateau (south-west region of Serbia), Homolje area (east Serbia), and in Vlasina lake (south-east Serbia). This data review pointed that it is necessary to continue the investigation on fish parasites in Serbia. The data on freshwater fish parasites are important for evaluation of general influence on the community structure. © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media B.V.Ministry of Science and Technological Development of Republic of Serbi

The Turtseviches: From Small Town’s Priest's Son to the Science A. PetukhouВосстанавливается семейная история православно-униатского рода Турцевичей, рассматриваются ее наиболее яркие представители, реконструируется взаимосвязь между ними. Устанавливается, что Арсений Осипович Турцевич был сыном протоиерея Осипа Турцевича, а также родственником нежинского профессора.= In this article, due to the discovery in the private collection of a previously unknown photographs, family history of Orthodox-Uniate the Turtseviches was restored and its most outstanding representatives were considered. So it turns out that among its members there are both honored priests in the name of archpriest Osip Simonovic, and prominent scientists and educators: ordinary professor of Nizhyn Historical and Philological Institute Ivan Grigorievich and historian archaeographer, the first among the native-born, author of textbooks and anthologies of Russian history for secondary schools Arseniy Osipovich. In the study, we have found that Arseny Turtsevich was the son of the already mentioned archpriest Osip Turtsevich and cousin of the professor from Nizhyn. Also the place has been found where Osip Simonovic was servicing at the time of the birth of the historian
