Leading chiral logarithms of KS→γγ and KS→γl+l− at two loops
AbstractWe obtain the leading divergences at two-loop order for the decays KS→γγ and KS→γl+l− using only one-loop diagrams. We then find the double chiral logarithmic corrections to the decay branching ratio of KS→γγ and to the decay rate for KS→γl+l−. It turns out that these effects are numerically small and therefore make a very small enhancement on the branching ratio and decay rate. We also derive an expression for the corrections of type logμ×LEC. Numerical analysis done for the process KS→γγ shows that these single logarithmic effects can be sizable but come with opposite signs with respect to the double chiral logarithms
Time-varying characteristics of saturated hydraulic conductivity in grassed swales based on the ensemble Kalman filter algorithm: A case study of two long-running swales in Netherlands
Saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) of the filler layer in grassed swales are varying in the changing environment. In most of the hydrological models, Ks is assumed as constant or decrease with a clogging factor. However, the Ks measured on site cannot be the input of the hydrological model directly. Therefore, in this study, an Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF) based approach was carried out to estimate the Ks of the whole systems in two monitored grassed swales at Enschede and Utrecht, the Netherlands. The relationship between Ks and possible influencing factors (antecedent dry period, temperature, rainfall, rainfall duration, total rainfall and seasonal factors) were studied and a Multivariate nonlinear function was established to optimize the hydrological model. The results revealed that the EnKF method was satisfying in the Ks estimation, which showed a notable decrease after long-term operation, but revealed a recovery in summer and winter. After the addition of Multivariate nonlinear function of the Ks into hydrological model, 63.8% of the predicted results were optimized among the validation events, and compared with constant Ks. A sensitivity analysis revealed that the effect of each influencing factors on the Ks varies depending on the type of grassed swale. Particle collision statistics in turbulent flows with kinematic simulation
Colliding droplets or particles in turbulent flows are important in applications ranging from rain formation in clouds to aerosol production in process engineering. To reduce the computational costs when simulating such flows, kinematic simulation (KS) is frequently applied as a cheap surrogate for direct numerical simulation (DNS) of the turbulent flow field. In this work, we provide for the first time a systematic validation of the particle collision statistics that result from KS. We show that while the particle collision frequencies for particles with different Stokes numbers are in good agreement with DNS reference data, a more detailed inspection of the flow field and particle concentration characteristics reveals significant differences between KS and DNS

Education to honesty should be based on giving a good example by Catholics, building organizations and associations, which in practice would take joint responsibility for public life. The church was and is a teacher of society. The article aims to show some aspects of the Church’s responsibility in the education of the society to honesty on the example of Blessed Fr. Bronisław Markiewicz. Fr. Markiewicz knew that the witness of Christian life has enormous power and is able to rebuild whole societies. The author shows in his article that religion – according to Fr. B. Markiewicz - is a value that fosters integrity, motivates and enriches the human personality, leading the way and directions for universal and fundamental values , including patriotic and civic ones.Wychowanie do uczciwości powinno polegać na dawaniu przez katolików dobrego przykładu, budowaniu organizacji i stowarzyszeń, które w praktyce podjęłyby współodpowiedzialność za życie publiczne. Role of KLHL3 and dietary K+ in regulating KS-WNK1 expression

The final version is available from the American Physiological Society via the DOI in this recordThe physiological role of the shorter isoform of WNK1 that is exclusively expressed in the kidney (KS-WNK1), with particular abundance in the distal convoluted tubule, remains elusive. KS-WNK1 despite lacking the kinase domain, is nevertheless capable of stimulating the NaCl cotransporter (NCC), apparently through activation of WNK4. It has recently been shown that a less severe form of the Familial Hyperkalemic Hypertension featuring only hyperkalemia is caused by missense mutations in the WNK1 acidic domain that preferentially affect CUL3-KLHL3 E3-induced degradation of KS-WNK1, rather than that of the full-length WNK1 (L-WNK1). Here we show that L-WNK1 is indeed less impacted by the CUL3-KLHL3 E3 ligase complex compared to KS-WNK1. We demonstrate that the unique 30 amino acid amino N-terminal fragment of KS-WNK1 is essential for its activating effect on NCC and recognition by KLHL3. We identify specific amino acid residues in this region critical for the functional effect of KS-WNK1 and KLHL3 sensitivity. To further explore this, we generated KLHL3-R528H knock-in mice that mimic human mutations causing Familial Hyperkalemic Hypertension. These mice revealed that the KLHL3 mutation specifically increased expression of KS-WNK1 in the kidney. We also observed that in wild type mice, expression of KS-WNK1 is only detectable after exposure to low potassium diet. Direct numerical simulation of open-channel flow in the fully rough regime
The Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) of an incompressible open channel flow over a layer of rigid spherical roughness elements fixed on the wall in well-packed square arrangement has been performed which shows values of the Reynolds number Rb ~ 6900 (ks+ ~ 100) and produces a mean velocity defect ∆U+ ~ 7 in the range of the fully-rough regime. First and second moment statistics of the velocity field have been analyzed. The stress distribution as well as the hydrodynamic force and torque acting on the surface of individual roughness elements have been computed. Results are presently shown and compared with those obtained in the context of a previous DNS performed in the transitionally rough regime
Ks. Benedykt Chmielowski — pionier polskiego kulturoznawstwa
Polish culturology have a several decades-long tradition as a field of study and a dozen-year tradition as a scientific discipline. As a result of formal changes, a few years ago it ceased to be a separate discipline and became part of the discipline called cultural and religion studies. Nevertheless, the traditions of culturology in Poland are much older and date back at least to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The question that appears is whether this border can be moved back even further. The author puts forward the thesis that a holistic approach to learning about the world and man, close to some culturologists, can be found in the thought of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century encyclopaedists. As an example, the author cites Nowe Ateny [The New Athens], a compendium by Fr. Benedykt Chmielowski (1700–1763), who in the middle of the 18th century decided to describe “the entirety of the world in brief words.” The author draws attention to several aspects of this work which allow to connect the thought of Fr. Chmielowski with contemporary culturological thought. The thus far unnoticed fact that in Nowe Ateny [The New Athens] it is probably the first time in Polish literature when the word “culture” has been employed in one of the meanings used today, is also being introduced in the article.
The author proposes a look at Nowe Ateny [The New Athens] from the culturological perspective and considers its author to be one of the pioneers of Polish culturology. There are no doubts that Fr. Chmielowski used the word cultura and applied it primarily to the culture of the language. The free use of language, or more precisely two languages at the same time (the effect of the macaronic Polish language), was in his opinion a manifestation of high personal culture, but the range of phenomena he describes anticipates the later, broad understanding of culture as human achievements. The merits of the author of Nowe Ateny [The New Athens] are, however, only a pretext for presenting the general state of culturological reflection on the ways of understanding the word “culture,” and the reasons for resigning from specifying the research field of the discipline.Kulturoznawstwo polskie ma swoją kilkudziesięcioletnią tradycję jako kierunek studiów oraz kilkunastoletnią — jako dyscyplina naukowa. W wyniku zmian formalnych przestało być przed kilkoma laty odrębną dyscypliną i weszło w skład dyscypliny o nazwie nauki o kulturze i religii. Jednakże tradycje myśli kulturoznawczej w Polsce są znacznie starsze i sięgają przynajmniej przełomu XIX i XX wieku. Pojawia się przy tym pytanie, czy i tej granicy nie można przesunąć jeszcze dalej wstecz. Autorka artykułu stawia tezę, że holistyczne podejście do poznawania świata i człowieka, bliskie części kulturoznawców, można odnaleźć w myśli polihistorów siedemnastowiecznych i osiemnastowiecznych encyklopedystów. Jako przykład podaje Nowe Ateny, kompendium autorstwa ks. Benedykta Chmielowskiego (1700–1763), który w połowie XVIII wieku postanowił opisać „świat cały w słów krótkości”. Autorka zwraca uwagę na kilka aspektów tego dzieła, pozwalających łączyć myśl ks. Chmielowskiego ze współczesna myślą kulturoznawczą. Przywołuje też nieodnotowany dotąd fakt, że w Nowych Atenach prawdopodobnie po raz pierwszy w piśmien-nictwie polskim zostało użyte słowo „kultura” w jednym ze znaczeń stosowanych współcześnie.
Autorka proponuje spojrzenie na Nowe Ateny z perspektywy kulturoznawczej, a ich autora uznaje za jednego z pionierów polskiego kulturoznawstwa. Na pewno ks. Chmielowski posługiwał się słowem cultura i odnosił je przede wszystkim do kultury języka. Swobodne posługiwanie się językiem, a praktycznie dwoma językami jednocześnie (efekt polszczyzny makaronicznej), było w jego ocenie przejawem wysokiej kultury osobistej. Niemniej zakres opisywanych przez niego zjawisk antycypuje późniejsze szerokie rozumienie kultury jako dorobku człowieka. Zasługi autora Nowych Aten są jednak tylko pretekstem do przedstawienia ogólnego stanu refleksji kulturoznawczej nad sposobami rozumienia słowa „kultura” i przyczynami rezygnacji z dookreślenia pola badawczego dyscypliny
Depolarization and decreased surface expression of K+ channels contribute to NSAID-inhibition of intestinal restitution
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) contribute to gastrointestinal ulcer formation by inhibiting epithelial cell migration and mucosal restitution; however, the drug-affected signaling pathways are poorly defined. We investigated whether NSAID inhibition of intestinal epithelial migration is associated with depletion of intracellular polyamines, depolarization of membrane potential (Em) and altered surface expression of K+ channels. Epithelial cell migration in response to the wounding of confluent IEC-6 and IEC-Cdx2 monolayers was reduced by indomethacin (100μM), phenylbutazone (100μM) and NS-398 (100μM) but not by SC-560 (1μM). NSAID-inhibition of intestinal cell migration was not associated with depletion of intracellular polyamines. Treatment of IEC-6 and IEC-Cdx2 cells with indomethacin, phenylbutazone and NS-398 induced significant depolarization of Em, whereas treatment with SC-560 had no effect on Em. The Em of IEC-Cdx2 cells was: −38.5±1.8mV under control conditions; −35.9±1.6mV after treatment with SC-560; −18.8±1.2mV after treatment with indomethacin; and −23.7±1.4mV after treatment with NS-398. Whereas SC-560 had no significant effects on the total cellular expression of Kv1.4 channel protein, indomethacin and NS-398 decreased not only the total cellular expression of Kv1.4, but also the cell surface expression of both Kv1.4 and Kv1.6 channel subunits in IEC-Cdx2. Both Kv1.4 and Kv1.6 channel proteins were immunoprecipitated by Kv1.4 antibody from IEC-Cdx2 lysates, indicating that these subunits co-assemble to form heteromeric Kv channels. These results suggest that NSAID inhibition of epithelial cell migration is independent of polyamine-depletion, and is associated with depolarization of Em and decreased surface expression of heteromeric Kv1 channels.ID: S0006295207001931; M3: Article; Accession Number: S0006295207001931; Author: L.C.
