    Once considered almost solely a site of poverty and conflict, sub-Saharan Africa and perceptions of it have gradually been changing. Today, African states have become important actors in international affairs, with a number considered as emerging powers. The subcontinent’s most assertive players have been capitalising on their natural wealth and recent economic growth and have implemented policies pursuant to a change of status from developing countries to emerging powers. This report looks at four such subSaharan countries – South Africa, Nigeria, Angola and Kenya – and explores the reasons for both optimism and pessimism regarding their considerable potential, as well as their governments’ initiatives to fulfl it

    Powers is about two teenagers with special powers who investigate strange occurrences. Professor Henry Powers has established the Powers Project to investigate the paranormal, and uses young people with more paranormal abilities as investigators. Mark is a telepath with telekinetic abilities, while Song Li is an empath, able to read emotions. The professor is assisted by Dr Mary Holland, who had paranormal abilities as a youngster. The four investigate paranormal claims or circumstances which more often then not they happen to stumble across. The two teenagers use their gifts to help and solve whatever puzzle has come their way that day

    A lifecycle assessment (LCA) of feminine hygiene products was completed with three samples considered representative of sanitary pads, tampons and menstrual cups. Gabi LCA software was used to organize inventory data with the ILCD lifecycle impact assessment method used to determine mid-point and normalized impact scores. Data from the Ecoinvent database, and literature were used to complete the assessment. The dataset includes product details (mass and materials), lifecycle inventory (LCI) data and lifecycle impact assessment (LCIA) results for all mass and energy flows. Hait and Powers [2019 ] used the data in a comparative LCA. Three representative samples selected to identify materials and mass of products (sanitary pad, tampon, menstrual cup). U by Kotex® Security® Maxi Pads and U by Kotex® Click® Tampons. Menstrual cup produced by DivaCup. The materials that comprise these products were identified primarily based on manufacturer specifications and through literature review. Both Kimberly-Clark and DivaCup list the materials in each of their feminine hygiene products on their respective websites. The average total weight and composition of tampons and sanitary pads were directly measured. GaBi LCA software was used to construct life cycle plans for each of the menstrual products as well as to populate those plans with processes in the life cycle of each product. The GaBi package includes a database of life cycle inventories for the production of several materials and energy sources. EcoInvent, v3.3 database was also used for materials not available directly through GaBi. The Gabi software was also used to determine mid-point and normalized mid-point categories for each of several indications. ILCD methodology for mid-point analysis was selected to use suitable characterization factors and contributing flows.     CSSI Software Element: Cloud WRF for the Atmospheric Research and Education CommunitiesThe Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model is the world’s most popular numerical weather prediction model and is supported by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) to a community of users across universities, research labs, and operational centers. This effort is exploiting the emerging technology of cloud computing for the critical WRF support effort and for the benefit of the worldwide user community. The work has established an officially-supported version of WRF in the cloud that extends system accessibility, improves model support and training, and facilitates model development. The components include: cloud-configured WRF system code; cloud WRF tutorial materials; and a cloud-based testing capability for code contributions. To date, the cloud WRF materials have been used for tutorials on the modeling system, for student instruction at universities, and for new system version releases
