Selected essays of Henk F. Moed
This part presents a collection of the most important publications by Henk F. Moed. This collection characterises the author as a researcher personality with a broad spectrum of activities and a multifaceted research profile. As Henk Moed has contributed to the advancement of the field in many topics, an overview of the development of his career is, to a considerable extent, also a survey of the research field. We grouped his publications into seven topics in the field at the intersection of bibliometrics, informetrics, science studies and research assessment. The main topics are the following
Effect and Improvement Areas for Port State Control Inspections to Decrease the Probability of Casualty
This report is the fourth part of a PhD project called "The Econometrics of Maritime Safety – Recommendations to Enhance Safety at Sea" and is based on 183,000 port state control inspections and 11,700 casualties from various data sources. Its overall objective is to provide recommendations to improve safety at sea. The fourth part looks into measuring the effect of inspections on the probability of casualty on either seriousness or casualty first event to show the differences across the regimes. It further gives a link of casualties that were found during inspections with either the seriousness of casualties and casualty first events which reveals three areas of improvement possibilities to potentially decrease the probability of a casualty – the ISM code, machinery and equipment and ship and cargo operations.maritime safety;correspondence analysis;binary logistic regression;probability of casualty;improvement;Port State Control Effectiveness;casualty first events;detention;port state control deficiences;target factor

Two Van der Pol-Duffing Oscillators with Huygens Coupling
We consider a system of two Van der Pol-Duffing oscillators with Huygens (speeding up) coupling. This system serves as appropriate model for Huygens synchronization of two mechanical clocks hanging from a common support. We examine the main regimes of complete and phase synchronization, and study the dependence of their onset on the initial conditions. In particular, we reveal co-existence of two chaotic phase synchronized modes and study the structure of their complicated riddled basins
