christophe-pouzat/zenodo-locust-datasets-analysis: Spike sorting of the locust zenodo datasets
zenodo-locust-datasets-analysis
<p>Analysis of the extracellular recordings from the locust olfactory pathway available on zenodo (<a href="https://zenodo.org/record/21589">https://zenodo.org/record/21589</a>)</p>
<p>This repository contains the description as well as the result of spike sorting applied to the datasets available on zendo. There is as associated <a href="https://christophe-pouzat.github.io/zenodo-locust-datasets-analysis/">GitHub page</a> that should be much easier to browse at start.</p>
The code
<p>For now the analysis is done with <a href="https://www.r-project.org/">R</a> but a <code>C</code> version is in preparation. The way the code is applied to the specific datasets can be followed with <code>html</code> files that were generated using <a href="https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/tour/">Emacs</a> <a href="http://orgmode.org/">Org mode</a>, especially the <a href="http://orgmode.org/worg/org-contrib/babel/">Babel</a> extension of <code>Org mode</code> (the developers of these wonderful tools are warmly thanked! Without their work none of what follows would have been possible--this does not mean that they should be held responsible for my mistakes--).</p>
<p>The <code>R_Sorting_Code</code> sub-directory contains the few <code>R</code> functions that were specifically developed for sorting, together with their documentation.</p>
The experiments
<p>There are one or several <code>html</code> files (and <code>org</code> source files) per experiment--one if a single tetrode was recorded and more if two or more were recorded--. Each <code>html</code> file is an "sorting lab book", you will find there every command used to carry out the sorting together with comments and diagnostic plots. Each <code>HDF5</code> <code>group</code> in the data file is analyzed trial per trial. The templates are allowed to drift to track the units. The diagnostic plots show for each unit in the model:</p>
<ul>
<li>the successive templates, </li>
<li>the number of events attributed it (as well as the number of unclassified events),</li>
<li>the observed counting process,</li>
<li>the estimated ISI density,</li>
<li>the raster plot (when that makes sense, that is when odors were applied). </li>
</ul>
<p>Feel free to critisize the procedure and its results. If you manage to improve it, be cool and let me know!</p>
Spike trains format
<p>The spike trains in directory <code>locustXXX_spike_trains</code> are stored in ASCII format with one spike time (in seconds) per line. They are named <code>locustXXX_StimID_tetY_uZ.txt</code>, where <code>XXX</code> gives the experiment data and <code>Y</code> the tetrode label, <code>StimID</code> is a stimulation identifier (more precisely a <code>group</code> name in the <code>HDF5</code> data file) and <code>Z</code> is the unit number. When several trials, like say 25 stimulation with citronelal, were recorded, the successive trials will be found one after the other and time 0 is defined as the start of the acquisition of the first trial.</p>
This contribution proposes the commented translation of the first scene of the play La Tragédie du roi Christophe (The tragedy of King Christophe), by Aimé Césaire. The text was published by the Martinican author in 1963 and staged from 1964 onwards. The story addresses the historical clash between the two Haitian revolutionary leaders, Alexandre Pétion (1770-1818) and Henry Christophe (1767-1820), after the establishment of Haitian independence in 1804. The ex-enslaved Henry Christophe I, self-proclaimed King of Haiti in 1811, stars, in the play, political impasses resulting from the decolonization process, for the constitution of a new free and democratic Haitian state. We chose to translate the scene that announces and illustrates, in the opening of the first Act, the tragic character that permeates the unfolding of events

Behind Christophe Defeuilley’s poetic title lies a comparative historical analysis of the establishment of public drinking water services in London, New York, and Paris, the three most populous cities at the dawn of the 20th century. The author combines the lens of economics and a long-term perspective (from the 16th to the beginning of the 20th century) focused largely on private and public actors, to trace how water distribution systems evolved and crystalized into the form they still have ..
Novel Dialogue 5.3 It’s on The Illabus: A Discussion with Jean-Christophe Cloutier and John Jennings (SW)
John Jennings—Hugo Award winner, New York Times bestselling author, curator, scholar, and Artist—is keenly aware that in adapting novels for the graphic format, his decisions turn what has only been imagined into facts drawn on the page. In this conversation with critic, translator, and teacher of a creative course on the art of making comics, Jean-Christophe Cloutier, Jennings explores how he makes those decisions that range from the design of endpapers to selecting a character’s skin tone with the ultimate aim of championing Black culture and Black comics. Given that Jennings has just entered the Marvel Universe with the debut of Silver Surfer: Ghost Light, the timing is right to reflect on the pressures and pleasures of adapting beloved stories for a contemporary audience. Jennings is both teacher and student of comics’ powerful lessons, and lucky for listeners, his course comes with an illustrated syllabus, aka illabus. In the podcast’s first ever episode about graphic novels, Jennings and Cloutier talk comic book history, the power of collaboration, and the importance of long showers
Gesture modeling and fatigue detection using mechanical signal recognition : application to the table tennis player
This experimental thesis takes place in the context of high performance sports, particularly table tennis. At the crossroads of sports instrumentation and the analysis of physiological behavior, this thesis proposes the development of a number of devices and methods for measuring table tennis physical parameters. This instrumentation is centered on an instrumented racket acting as an interface between the ball and the player. The acceleration of the racket, pressure exerted by the player on the racket, linear and rotational speeds of the ball, and the position of the ball's impact on the table are all measured. The signals measured were used to define indicators and analyze player performance. The study of performance was then carried out under conditions of controlled player fatigue. Work focused on two forms of fatigue: mental and physical. An analysis of the average performance of players and the effects of fatigue are observed on a panel of very high-level young players. Firstly, the data from the experimental campaigns are used to define the “technical signature” of a type of stroke for a given player. Then it is analyzed to estimate the influence of the player's fatigue conditions. Finally, using supervised learning algorithms, we were able to establish gesture recognition models, as well as fatigue condition models

Aficionados et opposants à la tauromachie. Les formes plurielles de la civilisation
Aficionados and Opponents to the Tauromachy. The Plural Forms of Civilization
Christophe Traïni
The opposition to the Spanish tauromachy constitutes an emblematic case of involvement aiming to build up the animal cause. Starting from Norbert Elias theory concerning the civilisation processes, the author attempts to point out the emotional economies which underlie both aficionados' passion and the denunciations of the opponents to the corrida. The author refers here to the comparative vocation of Elias theory to make intelligible the incomprehension which may resuit from the different ways of investing the civilisation values. This perspective aliows explicating why and how the bull takes on different virtues and statutes.
