No full text4 September 2002. -- Victoria Lynn is a distinguished curator and writer who has worked in the field of contemporary and Australian visual arts over the last two decades. She has recently been appointed Director of Creative Development at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, an innovative exhibition venue located at Federation Square in Melbourne, due to open later this year. She is currently Chair of the Visual Arts/Crafts Board of the Australia Council. From 1991 to 2001 she was Curator of Contemporary Art at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, and the numerous exhibitions she has curated have received substantial critical acclaim. She is the author of many articles, catalogue essays and edited collections, and books on artists Marion Borgelt and Eugene Carchesio. Mapping the Discipline of the Olympic Games An Author-Cocitation Analysis
No full textThe authors conducted an author cocitation analysis on prominent authors writing about the Olympics during the 1990s. Author cocitation is an established bibliometric technique that can be used to measure the relative similarities of topics written about by the cited authors. This enables a visual representation of the “intellectual space” of the discipline, in this case the Olympics, to be created for the period under review. So core and peripheral research areas are identified, along with their major contributors. The representation appears as a two-dimensional cluster-enhanced map. Subject expertise was then applied to the results to place labels on the generated clusters of authors and their topics

Highly efficient anodic oxidation of organic pollutants using Ti4O7 particle anode: Experimental and theoretical study of the operational and structural parameters influence
No full textA new specially designed electrolysis cell with particle anode of sub-stoichiometric titanium oxide (Ti4O7) was implemented for the anodic oxidation of organic pollutants (hydroquinone and oxalic acid) in aqueous solutions. The degradation kinetics of oxalic acid and hydroquinone under different operating conditions (thickness of anode layer, current density and flow rate) was studied. High process efficiency with low energy consumption was observed over a wide range of current densities and concentrations of organics, indicating the applicability of the particle Ti4O7 electrode as an affordable alternative for microporous electrodes. A 2D reactive transport mathematical model was developed to simulate the anodic oxidation of organics in porous electrodes. The electrochemical reaction of organic oxidation by direct electron transfer were considered as well as oxygen evolution reaction. Good agreement between the simulation results and experimental data was obtained. Using the developed model, the influence of current density, solution flow rate, electrode thickness, conductivity and specific surface area on the anodic oxidation process efficiency was evaluated. It is shown that the obtained results are applicable to predict the anodic oxidation process with more complex organic compounds, using the example of hydroquinone degradation

No full textThis issue of Play and Folklore has a special focus on children’s outdoor play. We hear many stories about the constraints placed on children’s play by adults – the growing number of ‘bannings’ include handstands, cartwheels, throwing things, playing with sticks, digging holes and rough-and-tumble play. Even simply touching each other is forbidden in some schools.
In this issue we bring a more positive perspective on play by highlighting some of the ways in which children are being encouraged and assisted to explore, experiment, be adventurous and make their own fun
