Dialogarchitecture: an artistic co-creation process to enable responsible leadership learning and implementation

    No full text
This chapter provides an introduction to dialogarchitecture, as a platform for methodological processes or artistic practices that facilitate dialogue, co-creation, problem solving, learning, and development. The authors give an overview of its process, providing insights into how it can be used for learning purposes. The responsible leadership development program Ulysses (see Pless and Schneider, this volume) serves as an example

    Responsible leadership: a relational approach

    No full text
Based on a relational approach, this chapter tackles the question of responsible leadership in business. It starts by outlining the main leadership challenges in a stakeholder society. Of the challenges leaders face in an interconnected world, most emerge from the interactions among a multitude of stakeholders. The ability to build sustainable relationships in a responsible and empathetic way becomes a key quality of current and future leaders. Consequently, the roles and responsibilities of leaders need to reflect the demands of leading businesses in society. After having defined the leader as a moral person, the chapter presents relational roles and responsibilities of leaders: a responsible leader is at times a servant, steward, architect, change agent, coach, as well as storyteller. The chapter concludes by briefly elaborating on the question if, and how, responsibility in business can be developed

The second edition of Responsible Leadership offers orienting knowledge on how to lead in a world of contested values—a world where leadership work extends beyond leaders and direct reports to a whole range of stakeholders inside and outside an organization. The new edition comes at a time where leaders face growing expectations to do better, and more, and where leadership challenges such as the ethical tragedy of climate change and global pandemics highlight the urgency of collective action. Updated and significantly extended, the second edition of this much acclaimed volume assembles leading scholars and practitioners in the field. It includes new chapters on inclusive leadership, the study of responsible leadership, the purpose of organizations, authenticity and values, virtuous leadership, irresponsible leadership, the paradoxical nature of responsible leadership, responsible leadership in context and in Asia, artistic expression to enable responsible leadership, responsible leadership measurement, and new directions for responsible leadership. This volume offers rich and functional insights into the concept and practice of responsible leadership. It will appeal to academics and practitioners alike with a wide array of perspectives grounded in pioneering scholarship and best practic

We present the results of historical and psychological research filling the gaps of contemporary knowledge about personalities of religious and philosophical direction of Russian psychology in late XIX – early XX centuries. The author introduces the biography of events and the views of Russian psychologist N.M. Bogolyubov – a man of uneasy fate, embodied in his work the idea of spiritual practice in the analysis and description of a person's inner world. Psychological works of N.M. Bogolyubov reflect the views common for Russian spiritual direction in psychology: consideration of man's inner world by revealing how mental experience is given to the person, his self, recognition of the soul as a sphere of inner reality, recognition of the mental world of a person as an independent entity, living by its own laws, which do not depend on the laws of the material world, asserting that faith can be a valid knowledge. In the arsenal of creative achievements of N.M. Bogolyubov are determination of the value of psychology in studying the problem of religious consciousness and professionalism as a necessary quality of a researcher psychologist in the field

Social Entrepreneurship in Theory and Practice—An Introduction

    No full text
The field of social entrepreneurship has grown exponentially in recent years and has become a social, economic and cultural phenomenon. In light of the current economic crisis, the inability of some governments to meet the social needs of their constituencies, a widening gap between rich and poor in many developed countries, and—for many—a less than appealing, scandal-ridden corporate world, the stories of individuals and groups of individuals who want ‘to change the world’ (Bornstein 2004) are inspiring. The examples of dedicated and visionary entrepreneurs who design solutions for unmet social needs, and whose primary intention is to help others, are a source of hope in markets where traditional forms of capitalism are struggling to rebuild their reputation and legitimacy

An improved thick-film piezoelectric material by powder blending and enhanced processing parameters

    No full text
This paper details improvements of the d33 coefficient for thick-film lead zirconate titanate (PZT) layers. In particular, the effect of blending ball and attritor milled powders has been investigated. Mathematical modeling of the film structure has produced initial experimental values for powder combination percentages. A range of paste formulations between 8:1 and 2:1 ball to attritor milled PZT powders by weight have been mixed into a screen-printable paste. Each paste contains 10% by weight of lead borosilicate glass and an appropriate quantity of solvent to formulate a screen printable thixotropic paste. A d33 of 63.5 pC/N was obtained with a combination of 4:1 ball milled to attritor milled powder by weight. The improved paste combines the high d33 values of ball and the consistency of attritor milled powder. The measured d33 coefficient was further improved to 131 pC/N by increasing the furnace firing pro-file to 100

Juggling the interests of different stakeholders?: The roles of responsible leadership and human resource management 1

The reference point was Utkal Alumina International Limited (UAIL), an ambitious greenfield alumina refinery, co-generation power plant, and bauxite mine, which began its journey in 1992–93 in the most remote and hilly terrain of Odisha, where epidemics, starvation, and atrocities were rampant. Despite having a progressive plan and the necessary approval from the state government, this greenfield project faced stiff resistance from a range of stakeholders, especially from the local tribal people, who would be most affected by the project. The UAIL leaders were struggling to find ways to commission the project. They wondered if the project would need to be shut down permanently amid the resistance. Dominated by the tribal inhabitants (indigenous people), Kashipur Block in Rayagara District was characterized by low socio-economic status, in which per capita income for each family was far below the poverty line

The evolution of the responsible leadership discourse

    No full text
The idea of good leadership has traditionally been linked to the effectiveness of a leader, or a leadership team, in influencing others to achieve a set of given objectives. This view, and concomitant research and leadership practices, has always suffered from two major flaws: one, it assumes that leadership work happens predominantly in dependent dyadic relationships in organisations and two, it overlooks the fact that to determine good leadership we must look at both the ethics and the effectiveness of leadership. This is especially true in multi-stakeholder environments where values are contested and role expectations of leaders are changing to include not only multiple stakeholder concerns, but also a broader set of responsibilities – social, environmental, and political. In other words, in an environment of contested values, not to be responsible means not to be effective as a leader

Corporate social responsibility (CSR): bringing society back in

    No full text
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the concept of corporate character as an alternative approach to corporate social responsibility (CSR), noting the feasibility of the concept as a metaphor, and setting out the key elements of a virtue ethics approach to business ethics. It focuses on the relationship between spirituality and CSR, and more specifically leadership and workplace spirituality. The book explores the link between, and the rich tradition of, Catholic social teaching and CSR. In the tradition of Catholic social teaching, the social responsibility of business is based on person-centered ethics, with two key ethical values: justice and solidarity. The book also discusses the one of the most critical issues in the supply chain: the increasing risk of forced labor and enslavement at the fringes of the global supply chai
