Synthesis and characterization of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid supported on mesoporous titania
Mesoporous titania materials have been synthesized by using urea as a template via sol–gel reactions of titaniumisopropoxide, followed by the removal of urea by extraction with water. The solid was dried, calcined at different temperatures and impregnated with trifluoromethanesulfonic acid. They were extracted by a mixture of dichloromethane and diethyl ether using a Soxhlet apparatus in order to remove the loosely adsorbed acid. The solids were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, DTA–TGA, and BET. The acidic characteristics of the catalysts were determined by potentiometric titration with n-butylamine and the test reaction of isopropanol dehydrationFil: Pizzio, Luis Rene. Mesoporous titania: Effect of thermal treatment on the texture and acidic properties
Mesoporous titania materials have been synthesized by using urea as low cost template via sol-gel reactions of titaniumisopropoxide, followed by removing the urea by extraction with water. They were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, DTA-TGA and BET. The SBET of the solids increases with the increase of the urea content and decreases with the increase of the calcination temperature. The XRD patterns of the samples exhibit only the characteristic peaks of the anatase phase. The crystallinity increased when the temperature went up. The acidic characteristics of the samples were evaluated by TPD and DRIFTS of adsorbed pyridine. The total amount of pyridine adsorbed decreases in parallel with the increase of the calcination temperature. The samples displayed two types of Lewis acid sites, with which pyridine interacts via coordination bonding. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.Fil: Pizzio, Luis Rene.
Properties of mesoporous tungstosilicic acid/titania composites prepared by sol-gel method
The tungstosilicic acid/titania composites were prepared by the sol–gel method. Titanium isopropoxide was used as titania precursor, and urea as a low-cost template. The tungstosilicic acid (TSA) was added in the same step as that in which titania hydrogel is formed. The TSA-modified samples only showed the
characteristic peaks of anatase phase of titanium oxide in the XRD patterns, indicating that the presence of TSA retarded the crystallization of the anatase phase and its transformation into the rutile phase. Spherical particles with sizes between 200 and 700 nm, formed by aggregation of nanoparticle aggregates (4–50 nm in size), were observed. The particle size increased when the TSA content was
raised and also increased slightly with the thermal treatment temperature. Mesoporous materials were obtained, with a mean pore diameter higher than 3.1 nm. Both the increase of the TSA concentration in the solid and the calcination temperature led to a decrease in the specific surface area of the samples. The
main heteropolyoxometallate species present in the composites is the [SiW12O40]
4 anion for the composites calcined up to 500 8C. The band gap energy decreased as a result of the introduction of TSA into the titania matrix, though it remained almost constant with the calcination temperature increase.Fil: Blanco, Mirta Noemi. Synthesis and characterization of aluminum or copper tungstophosphate and tungstosilicate immobilized in a polymeric blend
Aluminum or copper tungstophosphates and tungstosilicates were synthesized and immobilized in a polymeric blend formed by polyvinyl alcohol and polyethylene glycol using the freeze-thawing method. The salts retained the Keggin structure of the heteropolyanions during their synthesis and immobilization. Materials with spherical shape and a mean size of 2 mm were obtained, with an almost constant distribution of the salts along the sphere width. Besides, the immobilized salts presented very strong acid sites and good thermal stability. The synthesized hybrid materials present suitable properties to be used as heterogeneous acid catalysts which are very attractive for many processes as replacement of conventional liquid ones. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd. 2,3,5-trimethylphenol oxidation over Co-based solid catalysts
2,3,5-Trimethylphenol (TMP) was oxidized with hydrogen peroxide employing cobalt based solid materials. K6[CoW12O40]·6H2O (CoW12) was probed as selective catalyst for the oxidation obtaining better results when it was supported over ZSM-5 zeolites (CoW12-ZSM-5). CoW12-ZSM-5 was found to be an efficient catalyst in the oxidation of TMP to 2,3,5-trimethylbenzoquinone (TMBQ) and 2,3,5-trimethylhydroquinone (TMHQ) under mild reaction conditions. Liquid phase reaction parameters were evaluated obtaining better results employing hydrogen peroxide as oxidant, with an oxidant/substrate molar ratio of 5, methanol as solvent and 60 °C as reaction temperature. An apparent activation energy of 94.19 kJ/mol was obtained.Fil: Saux, Clara. Universidad Tecnologica Nacional. Facultad Regional Cordoba.
Fil: Sosa, Alexis Alberto. Keggin heteropolyacid as catalyst for olefin epoxidation: A multiphase approach
Keggin-type heteropolyacids have been used as catalyst for the selective oxidation of olefins to the corresponding epoxides in multiphase conditions (isooctane/Aliquat 336/water). Multiphase system allowed achieving a higher conversion (72%) and selectivity (70%) to epoxide than related homogeneous or biphasic systems. Optimization of the system has been conducted considering reaction time, temperature, amount of the catalysts and quantity of the oxidant. In addition, it was shown that, in the multiphase system, only an insignificant decomposition of hydrogen peroxide was observed. The best-found reaction conditions were then employed for the selective epoxidation of several substrates. An environmental assessment has been conducted comparing green metrics related to the homogenous, biphasic and multiphase systems herein investigated.Keggin-type heteropolyacids have been used as catalyst for the selective oxidation of olefins to the corresponding epoxides in multiphase conditions (isooctane/Aliquat 336/water).
