Cheng Yujian qinlun mantan 成玉磵《琴論》慢談
The "Qin Essay" by Cheng Yujian is one of the most important sources for studying the development of guqin aesthetics and technique during Song dynasty period. The author talks on guqin music from the performance perspective, showing deep knowledge of the situation of his age. The "Qin Essay" is one of the earliest texts analyzing quite systematically guqin technique with several details on fingerings and interpretation of music theory in his concrete application in the performance style. This kind of approach to guqin music aesthetics had a strong influence on later generation essayists, among them Xu Shangying and his "Qin Matters from Mountains and Streams"
