Pirro. In questi anni lo Stato reintroduce le sovvenzioni allo spettacolo dal vivo e la Direzione
Generale si appresta a normare i nascenti teatri stabili sul modello del Piccolo Teatro di Milano.
È in questo contesto che emergono le due differenti visioni di Andreotti e De Pirro: il primo
interessato alla continuità lavorativa per gli artisti in un’ottica di contenimento della
disoccupazione, il secondo deciso a dare continuità più alla struttura tecnico-organizzativa e alla
direzione artistica. Il caso di San Miniato consente di comprendere come, nonostante le
divergenze interne, la Direzione Generale operasse a sostegno dei nascenti teatri stabili
incentivando, in maniera più o meno consapevole, una normalizzazione della cultura attorica.The essay investigates the operational logic of the Direzione Generale dello Spettacolo during
the second post-war period, particularly focusing on the strategies of its main figures: Giulio
Andreotti and Nicola De Pirro. In this period, the State reintroduced subsidies for performing
arts, and the Direzione Generale was preparing to regulate the emerging permanent theatres
based on the model of the Piccolo Teatro in Milan. It is in this context that the two distinct
visions of Andreotti and De Pirro emerged: the former was interested in ensuring work
continuity for artists as a means to mitigate unemployment, while the latter was focused on
providing continuity to the technical-organizational structure and artistic direction. The case of
San Miniato illustrates how, despite internal disagreements, the Direzione Generale worked to
support the nascent permanent theatres, fostering, whether consciously or not, a normalization
of actor culture

No full textA Fixed Beamforming based approach for Stereophonic Audio-Conference systems
No full textHands-free communications systems require to primarily reduce the impact of the inevitably occurring acoustic echo. Moreover, in the recent past, a certain attention has been devoted to algorithmic frameworks able to provide stereophonic acoustic rendering and so augmenting the pleasantness of the audio-conference experience. In this paper the authors propose an optimally designed fixed Beamformer (BF) based solution for Stereophonic Acoustic Echo Cancellation (SAEC), with a twofold objective in mind: reducing the echo power and maximize the stereophonic spatial feeling. Up to the author's knowledge this is new to the literature and the achieved experimental results seem to confirm the effectiveness of the approach. It must be underlined, on purpose, that preliminary subjective listening tests have been carried out to evaluate the attainable audio stereo-recording quality. Moreover, the proposed solution allows to significantly reduce the overall computational cost required by the SAEC framework: indeed BF implementation asks for few extra filtering operations with respect to the baseline approach from one hand but make the usage of the decorrelation module unessential
Who is the author of the 1876 Stefano manuscript?
No full textFor over one hundred years the Stefano manuscript was a private document in the possession of the Baccich family and descendants. It told a story of the 1875 Stefano shipwreck as narrated by the shipwreck survivor and the founding family patriarch Miho Baccich. In these circumstances the question of authorship of the manuscript was immaterial and did not arise as an issue. However, with the publication of the manuscript the author‟s name, or names, need to be formally attributed to it. It turns out that this is not such a clear-cut matter.
As we shall see, all informed sources attributed the authorship, and the ownership, of the manuscript to Miho Baccich. But the manuscript itself was written by Canon Stjepan Skurla – a priest from Miho‟s hometown of Dubrovnik. The question then arises: should Skurla also be considered as an author of the manuscript, or, even as the sole author (as some would have it)

Nicola De Pirro e l'istituzionalizzazione del teatro (1935-1963)
No full textLa tesi affronta il rapporto tra lo Stato e il teatro drammatico in un arco di tempo che va dal 1935 al 1963. Il ritrovamento di una consistente documentazione inedita costituita dagli atti d’ufficio di Nicola De Pirro, primo Direttore Generale dello Spettacolo, ha permesso di trattare l’argomento da una prospettiva del tutto nuova. Innanzitutto, lo studio tenta di fornire un profilo esaustivo di Nicola De Pirro sia dal punto di vista biografico che professionale. Allo stesso tempo, si concentra sui mutamenti dell’intervento pubblico nei confronti dello spettacolo dal vivo, mettendo in evidenza tanto gli elementi di continuità quanto quelli di discontinuità tra il regime fascista e l’epoca repubblicana. De Pirro, infatti, rappresenta quell’anello di congiunzione tra i due periodi cui va attribuito, in parte, il riverberarsi di prassi e logiche fasciste nel secondo dopoguerra. Partendo dall’Ispettorato del Teatro, attraverso il quale venne avviato il processo di istituzionalizzazione della scena teatrale, si indaga il ruolo di De Pirro nel contesto di un regime totalitario e il suo impatto sul teatro drammatico. Seguendo le vicende del Direttore Generale dello Spettacolo, si passa poi ad analizzare le azioni dei governi democristiani nel corso dei primissimi anni Cinquanta, caratterizzate da un immobilismo burocratico e legislativo. Nello specifico, si studiano le prime pratiche operative della Direzione Generale dello Spettacolo che, pur mantenendo lo stesso assetto e gli stessi strumenti amministrativi posseduti durante il Fascismo, fu in grado di imprimere una nuova svolta istituzionale alla scena favorendo la nascita dei teatri stabili. Infine, per via della sua stretta dipendenza dalla relativa documentazione d’archivio, la tesi si dota di un’appendice che, oltre a riportare le trascrizioni di alcuni documenti di rilevante interesse, presenta due inventari: uno relativo al fondo Nicola De Pirro, conservato presso l’Archivio Centrale dello Stato, e l’altro relativo alla documentazione di proprietà degli eredi del Direttore Generale
HiPPO and Panda: two bioinformatics tools to support analysis of high-dimensional mass cytometry data
No full textBiological processes are often modulated by the interaction of different cell types, in a complex network of relations and dependencies. For this reason, biological research aims to both increase the number of cellular features that can be surveyed simultaneously and the resolution at which such observations are possible. High-dimensional mass cytometry is particularly well suited to tracking cells in complex tissues because more than 40 parameters can be monitored at the same time, on hundreds of thousands of cells per sample. Several computational approaches have been proposed to reduce the multidimensionality of the datasets produced by this technology and to cluster events by their multi-dimensional similarity (i.e. SPADE and viSNE). In order to overcome some limitations of the available toolboxes, I developed two new bioinformatics tools named HiPPO (http://moleculargenetics.uniroma2.it/hippo) and PANDA(http://moleculargenetics.uniroma2.it/panda). HiPPO (High-throughput Population Profiler) takes advantage of a supervised quantitation approach to discretize the expression distribution curves generated for each intracellular and surface protein monitored in the experiments. Cells in the continuous, multidimensional dataset are converted into a bi-dimensional matrix where row and columns are events (cells) and markers, respectively. For characterizing cell populations, HiPPO queries PANDA, a manually- curated database which stores expression profiles for selected markers of primary cells. Comparison between PANDA discrete expression profiles with those identified in the populations under study allows to monitor cell type abundance. Moreover, given a set of experiments in different conditions, HiPPO uses the KolmogorovSmirnov non-parametric test to evaluate the variation of protein expression levels, for any identified population. The analysis is conducted interactively, through a user-friendly web application. The robustness and reliability of HiPPO has been tested on a couple of experimental datasets. In the first case, human healthy bone marrow samples (Bendall et al., 2011) have been analyzed and the results compared with SPADE (Qiu et al., 2011), viSNE (Amir et al., 2013) and manual gating performed by the authors. In the second test, I took advantage of the expertise on CyTOF technology in our laboratory and I have analyzed mass cytometry data of skeletal muscle mononuclear cells from healthy and dystrophic (mdx) mice, in order to quantify fibro-adipogenic progenitors (FAPs) and determine changes in population abundance in different conditions. In both cases the HiPPO accuracy in the identification of known cells is higher than that of SPADE and viSNE, when compared to manual gating. Differently from the tools that are currently available HiPPO also offers the capability of matching the antigenic profile of the “quasi-homogeneous” populations that are identified by the cell clustering procedure to profiles of cell populations that have been characterized and described in the literature. For this task Hippo takes advantage of PANDA, a second resource that I have developed during my PhD. PANDA (Population Analysis Database) is the first manually-curated database which aims at capturing the expression profiles of selected markers in primary cells by integrating multiple layers of information in a user-friendly web portal. The curation process is conducted by experts that retrieve and interpret expression data from the literature. At the time of writing, PANDA mainly focuses the curation effort on the immune system and on the cell populations participating in skeletal muscle regeneration. Panda annotates 32 different cell types in the H. sapiens and M. musculus organisms but aims at increasing the amount of curated data, extending curations to other tissues, organs and organisms
