Client-consultant interaction practices: Sources of ingenuity, value creation and strategizing

    No full text
Service providers increasingly choose to interact with their clients. Previous studies show that client’s resources and activities can influence the service provider’s ability to create value, to be creative, and to develop competitive strategies. Yet several gaps can be identified in the literature regarding how these abilities are impacted by client-consultant interaction (c-c-i) practices. The purpose of this doctoral thesis is to explain the service providers’ varying ability to offer highly valuable solutions to their clients’ problems, in terms of the practices through which consultants interact with their clients. The main research questions are; How do client-consultant interaction practices influence a firm’s ability to offer unique value propositions and deliver ingenious solutions, and how do these practices influence the formation of the firm’s strategy? These questions are answered through four papers. Each paper answers a sub-question. Paper 1 focuses on the impact of c-c-i practices on the service providers’ ingenuity capabilities. The paper asks how project teams shatter constraints in ill-structured problem-solving situations, and what implications this finding has for the understanding of creative action in organizations. This paper sheds light on the c-c-i practices through which project teams shatter their constraints and create ingenious solutions. Paper 2 focuses on the creative aspects of c-c-i practices and presents the experiences of service providers who have been successful in capitalizing on the creative resources provided by their clients. Paper 3 is an inquiry into the relationship between c-c-i practices and the service providers’ ability to offer unique value propositions. The paper provides a model to define and assess value created through c-c-i practices. The findings of this paper show that value creation is maximized through c-c-i practices that provide access to various forms of capital and practice that enable capital exploitation. Unique value offerings can be developed from knowing what c-c-i practices to enact in different circumstances. Paper 4 focuses on the implications of c-c-i practices for the emergence of new strategies. The findings show that mundane business operations can be the locus of strategizing, and that clients can play a role in emergent strategy formation. Theoretical resources for this research are drawn from literature on practice theory, strategy, organizational creativity, and value creation. An explorative research design is used and qualitative data are gathered from 30 cases through extensive field work. Both in-depth and comparative case analyses are performed

This paper presents a 15b cryo-CMOS DAC for multiplexed spin-qubit biasing implemented in a 22-nm FinFET process. The integrating-DAC architecture and the robust digitally-assisted high-voltage output stage enable a low power dissipation (157W) and small area (0.08mm2) independent of the number of biased qubits, and a 3V output range well beyond the nominal supply. This represents the first scalable solution for cryo-CMOS qubit biasing, which achieves a 1.8× better voltage resolution with a lower DNL over a 3× larger output range than the current state-of-the-art. Nano-MOSFET - Foundation of Quantum Computing Part I

As big strides were being made in many science fields in the 1970s and 80s, faster computation for solving problems in molecular biology, semiconductor technology, aeronautics, particle physics, etc., was at the forefront of research. Parallel and super-computers were introduced, which enabled problems of a higher level of complexity to be solved. At about the same time, Nobel-laureate physicist Richard Feynman launched what seemed at the time a wild idea; to build a computer based on quantum physics concepts such as superposition and entanglement [1]. The outrageousness of his ideas is documented in the book 'Surely, You're Joking, Mr. Feynman' [2].Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.QCD/Vandersypen LabQCD/Sebastiano LabQuantum Circuit Architectures and Technolog

Image classification by integration of neural networks and machine learning

    No full text
A new approach is proposed for the integration of neural networks (NN) with machine learning techniques to build up an image classification system. In particular, the author uses a symbolic technique for inductive learning from examples to provide object models. Such models are used to design the architecture and to initialize the weights of a backpropagation NN. Models include uncertainty aspects represented by fuzzy predicates, and relational properties for contextual classification. Both aspects are suitably mapped into the automatically designed NN. Preliminary results in a biomedical application are presented

Integrated Cryo-CMOS Temperature Sensors for Quantum Control ICs

    No full text
This work presents an experimental study of different components (resistors, diodes, transistors) in a standard 40-nm bulk CMOS process for their suitability as integrated cryogenic temperature sensors down to a temperature of 4.2K. It was found that most devices can be employed as sensors down to temperatures of approximately 50K, below which non-ideal effects such as non-linear behaviour and decreased sensitivity start to dominate. The Dynamic-Threshold MOS (DTMOS) was found to be a very promising candidate for its linearity, low forward-voltage-drop and sensitivity down to 8K. Moreover, as previous research indicated that cryogenic self-heating raises the local chip temperature to tens of Kelvins already at moderate power levels, the aforementioned sensing limitations at very low temperatures are expected to be of less importance in realistic applications. The results presented in this work contribute to the further integration of classical cryo-CMOS control electronics and qubits, towards a fully scalable quantum computer. Oltre il soggetto: appunti sul Gramsci “molecolare” tra psicologia e “filosofie della vita”

    No full text
Gramsci’s “language of life” can be traced in part to the sciences and psychology of the late 19th century. Taking this connection into account, our contribution will attempt to reconstruct the early pre-prison writings and engage in an interpretive comparison with some authors who, like Gramsci, have conceived of the subject through a series of metaphors that challenge the idea of the self as a closed and self-referential individuality. In particular, we will revisit the metaphor of a “molecular” transformation and, through it, Gramsci’s relationship with psychology, and “philosophies of life”. Our aim is to focus on the perspective adopted by Gramsci in the Prison Notebooks, where the vitalist terminology of the early writings is reactivated and included in a perspective that transcends the former vitalistic approach.

The article deals with Gramsci’s pedagogical reflection, starting from the analysis of some early writings in which the need to develop a militant and “disinterested” proletarian culture emerges. The concept of “disinterestedness” is constantly used, through a series of lexical variants, from 1915 until the Prison Notebooks. In particular, after the famous reference to Goethe’s «für ewig» in the letter to Tatiana of 19 March 1927, this theme gradually resurfaces in a series of notes dedicated to the hegemonic-pedagogical role of intellectuals and the school. More specifically, particular attention is given at first to the influence of neo-idealist pedagogy (Giuseppe Lombardo Radice and Salvemini) on the early writings of the Sardinian intellectual. The analysis then focuses on new semantic contributions that contribute to the inclusion of the pedagogical discourse within the prison reflection on the «philosophy of praxis».L’articolo tratta della riflessione pedagogica di Gramsci, partendo dall\u27analisi di alcuni scritti giovanili in cui emerge la necessità di sviluppare una cultura proletaria militante e “disinteressata”.
