Johannes Bogaert, Dutch clerk of New Amsterdam (present-day New York), reports to Holland on the Dutch takeover of New Sweden. He accounts how the Dutch travelled to New Sweden and took over Fort Christina and outlying posts with little incident. On the way back to New Amerstam, the Dutch discovered that Indians had attacked and killed settlers living in neighboring Dutch villages (on present-day Staten Island). This article is part of a Primary Source Material collection compiled by the New Sweden Commemorative Commission in 1988
