descriptions; and on automated statistical testing techniques that can provide high confidence levels in software reliability at

for complex systems by teams of analysts. He is the author of books on software specifications and computer-aided software

No full textBakalaura darba tēma ir “Vairas Vīķes-Freibergas un Valda Zatlera reprezentācija žurnālos “SestDiena” un “Privātā Dzīve”: fotogrāfiju semiotiskā analīze”. Darba pamatā tiek ņemts katra prezidenta vienas prezidentūras periods. Vairai Vīķei Freibergai tas ir no 1999.gada jūlija līdz 2004.gada jūlijam, savukārt, Valdim Zatleram no 2007.gada jūlija līdz 2011.gada jūlijam, taču, ierobežotā laika dēļ, tiek pētīts periods līdz 2011.gada martam.
Darba teorētiskajā daļā ir apskatīta slavenību teorija, politisko personu atainojums presē, kā arī sniegts ieskats Latvijas mediju vidē un tajā valdošajiem uzskatiem par to, kādām vērtībām jāpiemīt kvalitatīvam un „dzeltenās” preses izdevumam. Tāpat teorijas daļa ietver fotogrāfijas nozīmes skaidrojumus.
Empīriskajā daļā, pēc žurnālu atlases, tiek veikta fotogrāfiju kontentanalīze un semiotiskā analīze. Savukārt, darba analītiskā daļa ietver empīriskās daļas datu analīzi un secinājumus par iegūtajiem rezultātiem.
Pētījuma mērķis ir, analizējot prezidentu vizuālos materiālus, izmantojot kontentanalīzi un fotogrāfiju semiotisko analīzi, noskaidrot raksturīgākos reprezentācijas principus žurnālos “Sestdiena” un “Privātā dzīve”, kā arī veikt attēlu salīdzinājumu, nosakot, būtiskākās līdzības vai atšķirības prezidentu atainojumā.

To analyze images of Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, the author takes period from 1999 till 2004, July, and of Valdis Zatlers - from 2004, June till 2011, July, but the author analysis images only till 2011, March, because of the limited timing.
In the theoretical part of the Bachelor’s paper the author examines stardom theory and explains how politicians are represented in media. Similarly the theoretical part includes the review of Latvian media environment. At the same time there is given information about the image and its role in media.
After picking-out necessary magazines, in the empirical part the author analyses content of images and uses the semiotic analysis. Thereafter, the analytical part contains conclusion of the obtained results.
The aim of the research is, by analyzing visual materials of presidents and by using content and semiotic analysis, to explore what are the most representative principles in magazines “SestDiena” and “Privātā Dzīve” and compare them to each other.

How Latvia Came through the Financial Crisis
No full textLatvia stands out as the East European country hardest hit by the global financial crisis; it lost approximately 25 percent of its GDP between 2008 and 2010. It was also the most overheated economy before the crisis. But in the second half of 2010, Latvia returned to economic growth. How did this happen so quickly? Current Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis, who shepherded Latvia through the crisis, and renowned author Anders Åslund discuss why the Latvian economy became so overheated; why an IMF and European Union stabilization program was needed; what the Latvian government did to resolve the financial crisis and why it made these choices; and what the outcome has been.
