Proposal for a feed consumption tool for animal dietary exposure assessment
Accurate information on the individual amount of feed consumed in daily life is the basis for proper estimation of animal dietary exposure to hazards. In the absence of a comprehensive database, regulators and competent bodies/authorities and other stakeholders from the industry and academy use different approaches to estimate feed consumption, mainly relying on the selection of default values for body weights, daily intakes and diet/ration composition. In this context EFSA has funded a project for the development of a feed consumption database using a standardized feed classification system, in support of a more accurate estimation of animal dietary exposure. The presentation will provide a brief overview of the project results and their potential contribution in improving animal feed consumption refinement.

Repository of Deep Renovation Packages Based on Industrialized Solutions: Definition and Application
Renovation Wave aims to boost the uptake of deep renovation towards the CO2 emission targets for 2030. In this perspective, there is the need of technologies and solution sets for improving the deep renovation process as well as demonstrating the performances for supporting the stakeholders in the decision-making process. To cope with the issue, this work presents a methodology for setting up a repository of building deep renovation packages that integrates industrialised facade technologies and more traditional solutions. The performances feeding into the repository have been evaluated by means of transient detailed simulations on a set of reference buildings in representative European climate conditions. The renovation packages are evaluated in terms of key performance indicators dealing with five areas: energy, comfort, pollutant emissions, cost, and renovation time. The defined repository includes 289 assessed technology packages and associated performances across Europe, providing a comprehensive support to identify the most effective solutions according to the user needs. The paper presents the application of the repository with two examples of stakeholders’ decision-making paths for selecting the deep renovation packages according to different priorities and expected targets
Rumen-protected choline supplementation in periparturient dairy goats: effects on liver and mammary gland
The current study investigated the effects of supplementing rumen-protected choline (RPC) on metabolic profile, selected liver constituents and transcript levels of selected enzymes, transcription factors and nuclear receptors involved in mammary lipid metabolism in dairy goats. Eight healthy lactating goats were studied: four received no choline supplementation (CTR group) and four received 4g RPC chloride/day (RPC group). The treatment was administered individually starting 4 weeks before expected kidding and continuing for 4 weeks after parturition. In the first month of lactation, milk yield and composition were measured weekly. On days 7, 14, 21 and 27 of lactation, blood samples were collected and analysed for glucose, beta-hydroxybutyrate, non-esterified fatty acids and cholesterol. On day 28 of lactation, samples of liver and mammary gland tissue were obtained. Liver tissue was analysed for total lipid and DNA content; mammary tissue was analysed for transcripts of lipoprotein lipase (LPL), fatty acid synthase (FAS), sterol regulatory binding proteins 1 and 2, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma and liver X receptor alpha. Milk yield was very similar in the two groups, but R PC goats had lower (P < 0.05) plasma beta-hydroxybutyrate. The total lipid content of liver was unaffected (P = 0.890), but the total lipid/DNA ratio was lower (both P < 0.05) in RPC than CTR animals. Choline had no effect on the expression of the mammary gland transcripts involved in lipid metabolism. The current plasma and liver data indicate that choline has a positive effect on liver lipid metabolism, whereas it appears to have little effect on transcript levels in mammary gland of various proteins involved in lipid metabolism. Nevertheless, the current results were obtained from a limited number of animals, and choline requirement and function in lactating dairy ruminants deserve further investigation
Allocating Servers in Infostations for Bounded Simultaneous Requests
The server allocation with bounded simultaneous requests problem arises in isolated infostations, where mobile users going through the coverage area require immediate high-bit rate communications such as web surfing, file transferring, voice messaging, email and fax. Given a set of service requests, each characterized by a temporal interval and a category, an integer k, and an integer hc for each category c, the problem consists in assigning a server to each request in such a way that at most k mutually simultaneous requests are assigned to the same server at the same time, out of which at most hc are of category c, and the minimum number of servers is used. Since this problem is computationally intractable, a 2-approximation on-line algorithm is exhibited which asymptotically gives a (2 - (h/k))-approximation, where h=min{hc}. Generalizations of the problem are considered, where each request r is also characterized by a bandwidth rate wr, and the sum of the bandwidth rates of the simultaneous requests assigned to the same server at the same time is bounded, and where each request is characterized also by a gender bandwidth. Such generalizations contain bin-packing, multiprocessor task scheduling, and interval graph coloring as special cases, and they admit on-line algorithms providing constant approximations
