GEOSIS web
Experience using ESRI Geodatabase allowed to centralize in one place the many spatial,
geological and seismological data contained in the databases produced in recent years by INGV
and other institutions. Inspired by the USGS reports made to characterize the most important
earthquakes, it was thought to create synthesis and quick reference tools of this information in
relation to a seismic event that occurred on Italian territory.
The result is the idea of "framing" the location of an earthquake not only in its territorial context,
but extending it to other useful information derived from INGV databases and studies. The aim of
GEOSIS Earthquake Report is precisely to frame a seismic event in 5 topics into a A3 cartography
report: territorial framework, seismic classification, seismic hazards, historical seismicity, recent
seismic activity. The utility of Earthquake Report has been highlighted especially during a seismic
emergency as a tool for quick summary and easy to read of the different seismological and
seismotectonic characteristics of the area affected by the earthquake. Just at those situations,
however, has been pointed out the weak point of this report: their static nature. In fact it is coming out of the need to have an application that could dynamically be updated during a seismic sequence
and which provides the user the ability to create custom scenarios.
It was then developed GEOSIS web, the evolution of GEOSIS Earthquake Reports on the Web.
GEOSIS web turns the cartography report into a webGIS application that allows users to create
the 5 default views, or create different scenarios with the layers of geographic database.
In addition GEOSIS web is not centered on a single seismic event but it has the opportunity to
manage the last 20 events recorded by the National Seismic Network with magnitude (ML) greater

Un sistema informativo territoriale geoambientale per la Provincia di Avellino
Scopo di tale lavoro è l’individuazione di macroaree a scala provinciale idonee all’ubicazione di discariche di rifiuti solidi urbani o di siti di stoccaggio di ecoballe nell’ambito della provincia di Avellino. Una prima fase è stata dedicata alla raccolta di dati relativi alla caratterizzazione geologica, ambientale, paesaggistica presente sul territorio ed alla individuazione della normativa vigente che discrimina i criteri di scelta di un sito. Sono stati individuati e realizzati circa 20 strati informativi geotematici per l’area di studio, organizzati all’interno di un personal geodatabase. Nella seconda fase del lavoro, attraverso la tecnologia del Model Builder di ArcGIS 9.2, è stato realizzato un modello di analisi spaziale al cui interno sono state trasformati in vincoli geografici, le varie limitazioni indicate dalla normativa vigente, attribuendo ad ogni vincolo anche uno specifico impatto.PublishedL'Aquila5.4. Il LABGIS@INGV di Grottaminarda, attività e prospettive
The laboratory of digital cartography and geographical information systems (LABGIS@INGV) of the ISTITUTO
NAZIONALE di GEOFISICA e VULCANOLOGIA (INGV) in Grottaminarda (AV) has focused its activity on the
organization and processing of a high number of cartographic, territorial, geological and geophysical data regarding
Central and Southern Italy. This activity represents one of the purposes of CESIS Project whose aims are to realize a
monitoring network of permanent stations with seismic, accelerometric and geodetic instruments and to create a Centre
for Seismology and Seismic Engineering. The realization of a series of geographical database in ESRI Geodatabase
data model with the software ArcGIS 9 has offered the possibility of trying out the opportunities of this technology as,
for example, the organization of different types of geographical data and proceedings inside the same environment.
The following step was to develop a series of GIS applications as the SIT CESIS EARTHQUAKE REPORT. This
application produces a cartographic report, which is able to give a territorial and seismological view for each
earthquake of magnitude greater than 3.0 recorded in Southern Italy.
The products of the activities of the LABGIS@INGV are still present in the website of INGV Grottaminarda
(http://labgis.gm.ingv.it/website/labgis/) in several sections, with the possibility to download the cartographic data of

Un sistema informativo territoriale per l'installazione della Rete Mobile Real Time durante l'emergenza sismica della'Aquilano
The April, 6th, 2009 Mw 6.3 L'Aquila destructive earthquake represented the first real-case to test the entire emergency seismic network infrastructure (Rete Mobile Real Time, REMORT). Less than 6 hours after the earthquake occurrence, a first station was already sending data at INGV seismic monitoring headquarters. A total number of 9 seismic stations have been installed within 3 days after the earthquake. The deployment of the seismic network is managed in a geographical information systems (GIS) by particular scenarios that visualizes, for the epicentral area, information about instrumental seismicity, seismic risk, macroseismic felts and territorial data. Starting from digital terrain model, the surface spatial analysis (Viewshed, Observer Point) allows the geographic arrangement of the stations and relative scenarios.PublishedBari, Italia5.5.
