Mixing the Immiscible: Improvisation within Fixed-Media Composition
This paper will explore ways in which mastered improvisation practice, with the studio as an instrument, is a proposed avenue to bridge the historical dichotomy between what Ted Gioia describe as ‘the aesthetics of perfection’ and ‘the aesthetics of imperfection’. It is proposed as a way to re-embody fixed music, as experimented by the author through the composition of his last fixed-media work. This will be put in the context of a wider trend observed amongst the current emerging generation of composers interested in the aesthesics of the work, by opposition to the previous generations that placed the value of the work in its poietics. The vital and primal importance of practice outcome as practice-based research’s main document will also be advocated for, as these trends are happening in the laboratory of live music
ABSTRACT: This data repository contains all the simulation result used for the article: "Pixel-based open-space microfluidics for versatile surface processing" by Pierre-Alexandre Goyette, Étienne Boulais, Maude Tremblay and Thomas Gervais. This dataset contains the simulation results of pixelated chemical display where stochastic errors are added to the flow rate of the injections and aspirations. The objective is to simulate the behavior of pixelated chemical displays in a real life contexts, where fabrication errors and partial clogging can affect the device

Alex Bonney: trumpet, electronics Pierre Alexandre Tremblay: bass, electronics Emil Karlsen: drumslight.box ‘The Undanced Dance’ available from BandcampFor their third album, and first release on Bead, light.box expands from the duo of Alex Bonney (trumpet, electronics) and Pierre Alexandre Tremblay (bass guitar, electronics) to a trio adding the highly inventive Norwegian improv drummer Emil Karlsen. The music moves into ever more sonically expansive territory: dark ambient drone with fractured grooves meets gestural improv, gritty noise corrupts epic electronica
La Semaine Du Son 2022 / De Week Van De Klank 2022: Pierre Alexandre Tremblay and Concert Acousmatique:Quatre poèmes (Four poems)
In the first part of the concert, Pierre Alexandre improvises, on electric bass and laptop, a variation / remix / recomposition of material from his latest album, four poems, recently released. Cutting, gluing, juxtaposition, overlays, variations, everything is allowed. Already, the album is described as instrumental, loud, (post-)acousmatic, melodic, anecdotal, lyrical, ambient, groovy, environmental, abstract, grating, soothing, rabid, contemplative, expressionist… …it's all that and nothing all of this at once . All of these divisions are worked out in dialogue. Add an electric bass to that list, and we have an invitation for a colorful set. In the second part, the acousmatic composition class of ARTS² and the Belgian Federation for Electroacoustic Music (FeBeME-BeFEM) offer a program bringing together new works by students and pieces by professional composers. The whole will be proposed with a spatialization on acousmonium (orchestra of loudspeakers)
