"Non di sola CEDU ..." La fecondazione assistita e il diritto alla salute in Italia e in Europa
In recent years, the right to health granted by Art. 32 of the Italian Constitution has undergone a significant shift. Along with the increasing process of Europeanization of fundamental rights, which was boosted in 2007 in relation to the ECHR, both the individual and the social tenets of the right to health seem to have been progressively blurring. A powerful example of this trend is that concerning assisted reproductive technology (ART). A law passed in 2004 has regulated ART in Italy for the first time ever, albeit with a highly restrictive approach. Many claims over time have challenged the constitutionality of the law and, among them, those affecting the bans on preimplantation genetic diagnosis and on heterologous assisted reproduction remain unanswered to date. The inaction of the Constitutional Court and the unresponsiveness of the legislative branch have therefore pushed the affected couples to apply to the European Court of Human Rights, whose decisions have partially satisfied those claims, albeit with the effect of jeopardizing the centrality of the constitutional right to health and its multi-faceted potentialities. The right to respect for private and family life (Art. 8 ECHR) is indeed focused on the individual side of health issues and mainly lacks any social attitude, with the consequence that 'reproductive' rights (i.e. the right to have a child) are often overestimated with regard to woman's health rights. The inability of this approach to call into question the most critical aspects of the Italian legislation on ART has been demonstrated by the latest decisions of both the judiciary and the Constitutional Court, that have made wide reference to ECHR case law without being able to solve the most debated problems. Given this situation, the author suggests that a preferable solution would be renewed focus on the full fledged enhancement of both individual and social attitudes concerning the right to health
Optimization of magneto-mechanical Energy Scavenger for automotive tyre
This article presents multidisciplinary optimization methods applied to the design and performance evaluation of a magneto-mechanical energy scavenger for automotive wireless tire sensors. Optimal performance strictly depends on source characteristics, volume, weight and power density targets, energy scavenger typology, technological and manufacturing capabilities, optimization and reliability of performance, environment requirements, and so on. Thus an optimization study has been conducted on equivalent viscous damping due to strong magneto-electrical-mechanical coupling. To do this, an optimization tool has been developed that maximizes the power output in specific working conditions by varying the number and size of coils. © The Author(s) 2011
Conoscenza e tutela degli edifici in c.a. dei primi del Novecento come frontiera del restauro
In Italy the necessity to safeguard reinforced concrete buildings of the Twentieth century had emerged and was stabilized progressively during the second half of the last century. Since that moment numerous studies were devoted for this theme, conventions had put emphasis on the materials, technique author and other aspects. The Superintendence launched knowledge campaigns of the territory and census by inquiring into parameters of selection to adopt in order to place a restriction and then declaration of the cultural interest, according to the Code of Cultural Heritage. Therefore the historical and artistic value from time to time was recognised as well as the social meaning of the work, the correlation with the background or the innovation from the point of view of materials and the construction principles. Despite this fact, the two illustrated examples allow to highlight that reinforced concrete buildings are unrecognised as a part of the heritage to protect. It is significant the case of the ex-Multiplex Odeon in Genoa, that has not been substracted from speculative logics despite having all the features mentioned in order to be selected as part of the heritage of the Twenties of the Twentieth century to defend. The second example about ex vegetable market in Genoa, concerned the practice to safeguard some part of the buildings or complex, that seem to be selectable as exemplifying of standardized and repeatable works

Besides, when certain literary subgenres, such as Science Fiction, are approached from feminist methodologies the potentialities are multiplied. Feminist close reading, which foregrounds gender as critical concept and considers a number of external factors to the production and reception of a text, may be a way of helping students to develop their critical abilities when they are faced with any kind of text. In this paper, we take Joanna Russ’s The Female Man (1975) as a case study in order to show how feminist close reading may widen the range of interpretations of a text, mainly by considering, on the one hand, the context of production of that text —written at the peak of the so-called second wave feminism— and, on the other, the location from which it is analysed. The result is an alternative, “oppositional” reading of the novel which attempts to overcome the shortcomings of the ideological stances that gave shape to it and restore its potential for a 21st-century context. To that end, a literary critic needs to display the pressures at work in the crafting and understanding of a text, which seems essential in the process of resisting the dominant meanings foisted on the reader. As a result, the critic is able to question a text and the alleged authority of its author. We aim at illustrating that, in the context of the classroom, this process may be of use in the upbringing of ethically responsible/response-able adults, which is, indeed, an essential task given current neoliberal individualism.

Restricting consumer credit access: household survey evidence on effects around the Oregon rate cap
Many policymakers and some behavioral models hold that restricting access to expensive credit helps consumers by preventing overborrowing. The author examines some short-run effects of restricting access, using household panel survey data on payday loan users collected around the imposition of binding restrictions on payday loan terms in Oregon. The results suggest that borrowing fell in Oregon relative to Washington, with former payday loan users shifting partially into plausibly inferior substitutes. Additional evidence suggests that restricting access caused deterioration in the overall financial condition of the Oregon households. The results suggest that restricting access to expensive credit harms consumers on average.Consumer credit
The Need for Better Internal Oversight of Corporate Lobbying
The author shows by example that corporate lobbying on public policy issues is not always in the best interests of shareholdersâor customers or employees. Best practice by leading companies provides oversight of lobbying by the board of directors, but far too few companies now employ such practices.
