No full textIdiopathic atrophoderma of Pasini and Pierini is a rare disease of dermal atrophy with sharply bordered hyperpigmented patches without induration along. Lesions are solitary or multiple, round or irregular shaped. Colours of the lesions may be brown, blue or violaceus but the skin surface seems normal without induration. Recently, atrophoderma of Pasini and Pierini has been reported to be a superficial variant of localised morphea due to similar clinical and histopatholo-gical properties. Here, we present a case of 17-year-old boy with three- year history of idiopathic atrophoderma of Pasini and Pierini

Perché MOULD? Perché crediamo che il termine, includendo le nozioni d’impronta e traccia, richiami in modo chiaro l’obiettivo che, a nostro avviso, dovrebbe porsi l’editoria culturale: registrare l’esistente, divulgarlo, generare nuove idee. Così come il calco è uno strumento di riproduzione e catalogazione, ma anche di produzione ex novo, intendiamo la pubblicazione, nella doppia direzione di ricerca simil-archivistica e di creazione di nuovi contenuti.
Per ogni numero un diverso guest editor, proveniente da un’area culturale specifica, è invitato a dare la sua interpretazione del nostro tema, lasciando una propria impronta personale.
L’ambizioso proposito è che, presi nella loro totalità i numeri di MOULD possano offrire una testimonianza soggettiva, non convenzionale e multiforme del contemporaneo

No full textThe research and teaching activity of Orsina Simona Pierini, Professor of Architectural and Urban Composition at the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies of the Polytechnic University of Milan, focus on the historical interpretation of the city’s architecture from the perspective of design. Her knowledge of the role of the dwelling in urban planning stems from the systematic study of the different expressions of habitation in contemporary European cities, as well as from specific research focused on modern Spanish architecture and Milanese residential constructions, with particular attention to the relationship between the dwelling and the city. Her interpretation of these phenomena is, therefore, transversal as it involves various different scales and addresses the critical-historical sphere; it’s also a means to define design methods that respond to the needs and demands of current habitation.This conversation with Orsina Simona Pierini is organised, therefore, around certain topics that summarise her experience as a scholar and her personal opinion of the expressions of contemporary collective architecture that define the configuration of the contemporary city and, in general, the current way of inhabiting.La actividad investigadora y docente de Orsina Simona Pierini, Catedrática en Composición Arquitectónica y Urbana en el Departamento de Arquitectura y Estudios Urbanos del Politécnico de Milán, se centra en la interpretación histórica de la arquitectura de la ciudad en clave proyectual. Su conocimiento del papel que ocupa la vivienda en la planificación urbana, se estructura en torno al estudio sistemático de las diferentes expresiones del habitar en las ciudades europeas contemporáneas, así como a algunas investigaciones específicas centradas en la arquitectura moderna española y la construcción residencial milanesa, siempre con especial atención a la relación entre vivienda y ciudad. Francesco di Giorgio Martini as the “spirits” of the Palazzo.
We cannot help but imagine De Carlo himself as a presence
for the city, always present and alive through his project.
In L’architettura della partecipazione he exposes how often
the representation of architecture does not include the
people who live in it; a custom whose origins the author
traces back to the “individual monocentric vision” of the
Renaissance perspective.
Based on this consideration eight internationally
renowned photographers, Urbino ISIA teachers, tell the
story of De Carlo’s work in Urbino. These images tell the
story of De Carlo in Urbino today. What interests us is their
potential as a lesson for the present. Paola Binante,
Luca Capuano, Mario Cresci, Paola De Pietri, Jason Fulford,
Stefano Graziani, Armin Linke, Giovanna Silva, explore
and recount the nature of this lesson through photography.
Alongside their multiple perspectives is the performative
work, carried out by the graphic designer Patrick Lacey and
the artist Ben Cain, with the ISIA students and the narrations
developed by the students of the Iuav University of Venice,
together with Armin Linke, using photographic material
from the archives.
Besides curators’ texts, this book includes contributions
by Roberta Valtorta, with respect to the long-term
relationship between architecture and photography,
by Mirko Zardini, on De Carlo’s relationship with the city
of Urbino, and by Sara Marini, on the architect’s textual
production

On the synchronization between the Kuroshio Extension bimodality and the North Pacific Oscillation
No full textThe North Pacific Oscillation (NPO, the second dominant mode of sea level pressure variability in the North Pacific) is known to drive the North Pacific Gyre Oscillation (NPGO, Di Lorenzo et al., Geophys. Res. Lett., 35, L08607, 2008; Chhak et al., J. Climate, 22, 1255, 2009) and to excite Rossby waves that propagate the NPGO signature from the central North
Pacific into the Kuroshio Extension (KE) region (Ceballos et al., J. Climate, 22, 5163, 2009). This, in turn, is suggested to be the cause of the synchronization between the NPGO and the KE decadal bimodality, as observed from satellite altimetry (Qiu and Chen, Deep-Sea Res., 57, 1098, 2010). In this communication modelling studies are presented, suggesting
that such synchronization may be the result of the excitation -via the Rossby wave field- of a KE relaxation oscillation, whose spatial structure and evolution is basically driven by highly nonlinear intrinsic oceanic mechanisms. To arrive to this conclusion the concept of global bifurcation, of the resulting relaxation oscillations, and of the corresponding coherence
resonance and synchronization with an external time-dependent forcing are first recalled in the context of dynamical systems theory by using a low-order QG ocean model (Pierini, J. Phys. Oceanogr., 41, 1585, 2011). These same notions are then applied to a reduced-gravity shallow water model of the KE bimodality (Pierini, J. Phys. Oceanogr., 36, 1605, 2006; 40, 238, 2010) in basic agreement with observations. Finally, the introduction of an idealized NPO time-dependent forcing is shown to produce a teleconnection mechanism and a timing of the KE relaxation oscillation in significant agreement with the above mentioned results. Conclusions concerning the possibility of reproducing phenomena of intrinsic lowfrequency variability of this nature in ocean general circulation models are finally presented
