English fronting constructions as a window to the semantics of tense: the case of belief reports
Abstract This paper delves into the temporal interpretation of fronting constructions in English, a topic that has received limited attention in the literature on tense semantics. It presents new empirical findings revealing that specific fronting configurations, involving present tense morphology in a complement CP under a matrix past tense, can yield a theoretically unexpected simultaneous interpretation. A novel theoretical framework for understanding English tense is proposed, which accounts for the temporal interpretation of both fronting and non-fronting versions of attitude reports. The framework introduces a null simultaneous tense as a replacement for the conventional indexical present and the Sequence-of-Tense (SOT) de se tense. It is argued that in complement CPs the null simultaneous tense, as well as past tense, can be anchored either to the attitude time or to the utterance time. In either case, each tense receives a de re interpretation. Moreover, the paper contends that evidence from fronting constructions supports Kratzer’s (Proceedings of semantics and linguistic theory 8, pp. 92–110, 1998) proposal that the transmission of temporal features (as part of the mechanism of SOT) occurs at PF. Finally, the proposed revision of the English tense system contributes to a more unified cross-linguistic perspective on tense. It is demonstrated how the temporal readings of attitude reports arising in such non-SOT languages as Russian, Japanese, and Hebrew can be captured within the system developed for English, with known contrasts attributed to the absence of Feature Transmission in those languages. Further known and new data from English, Modern Greek, and German are examined, revealing variations in SOT effects across SOT languages. These data are used as additional evidence supporting the claim that cross-linguistic variation in the interpretation of complement tense stems solely from differences in Feature Transmission. Regarding the semantic profile of tenses, it can be considered largely invariant
Human papillomavirus‐related cancer risk for solid organ transplant recipients during adult life and early prevention strategies during childhood and adolescence
Malignancies are among the top three causes of patient death in pediatric and adult kidney transplant (KT) recipients. Solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients, including KT individuals, experience more cancer compared with the general population, including human papillomavirus (HPV)-related anogenital and oropharyngeal cancers. This article describes the epidemiology, pathophysiology and natural history of the HPV infection in both the general population and in SOT recipients, as well as its role in the development of HPV-related pre-cancerous lesions and cancers. Emphasis is given to the primary prevention strategy, HPV vaccination in SOT recipients, and its particularities compared with the general population. Secondary prevention strategies in SOT recipients are discussed and compared with the general population, highlighting cervical cancer screening needs within SOT populations. The article emphasizes how these primary and secondary HPV prevention strategies applied during childhood and adolescence by the pediatric transplant professionals, can lower the burden of HPV-related cancers for SOT recipients in subsequent years, during their adult life

Management and prevention of varicella and measles infections in pediatric solid organ transplant candidates and recipients: An IPTA survey of current practice
BACKGROUND: Varicella and measles infections can be life-threatening after solid organ transplantation (SOT) but may be preventable with live-attenuated vaccines (LAV). METHODS: This survey conducted in January 2019 among subscribers of the International Pediatric Transplantation Association listserv aimed to explore the current strategies to prevent and manage both infections in the pediatric SOT population, including recommending LAV after SOT. RESULTS: The answers given by 95 pediatric SOT healthcare workers show that these strategies are not yet optimal and call for further education. In particular, 59% of respondents are unnecessarily waiting for a SOT candidate to be >1 year of age to start administrating LAV before SOT. Interestingly, most respondents are willing to administer LAV after SOT (57%), and a fifth (21%) are already doing so, off-label. The survey queried the precautions taken to improve safety evaluations after LAV, and identified knowledge gaps and practitioners' concerns. CONCLUSION: The results of this survey could be used as a starting point for education and promotion of the safe administration of LAV in carefully selected SOT recipients; in turn, this would increase available data that would contribute to the development of evidence-based guidelines by the transplant societies and ultimately prevent these infections after SOT
John Barth's "Sot-weed factor" revisited: the meaning of form
"The sot-weed factor" by John Barth is an expanded parody of the historic Ebenezer Cooke's poem of the same tide as well as of the latter's role as colonial Maryland's first poet laureate. But in the course of the novel the dual nature of parody, as defined between the opposite poles of imitation and play, or necessity and freedom, becomes emblematic of the postmodern imagination as such. Just as the novel's content derives its meaning from the ambivalent central symbol of twinhood, which unfolds in the question of identity and role, so the novel's form mirrors an increasing tension between fiction and reality. Parody, for Barth, becomes a means of solving this tension by dissolving recollected and recorded experience into separate segments which the present author may then treat as material for the creative imagination. In "The sot-weed factor" stories become games played by the author. However, as a creator of fictional characters, while resambling the Creator of real mankind, the author neverthless remains one of His playthings. Thus the freedom which he achieves in entering the realm of the creative imagination can only be enjoyed at the price of evading reality

Rhétorique et technique dans les préfaces des gesta episcoporum (IXe-XIIe s.)
The study of rhetoric by authors of gesta episcoporum allowes to discern the mental attitudes of historians, the notion of their profession they have, but their method of work too. In the Xth and XIth century, prefacies generaly present the author and his patronus. Then they define the object of gesta: to celebrate the memoria of the church according to the ordo; those are the two key-notions of that kind of work. In the XIIth century, rhetoric decreases with the disappearance of author and his patron; one speaks only about the book which acquired an objective value, independent of who ordered it.L'étude de la rhétorique chez les auteurs de gesta episcoporum permet de saisir les attitudes mentales des historiens, l'idée qu'ils se font de leur métier, mais aussi leurs méthodes de travail. Sot Michel. Update on COVID‐19 vaccination in pediatric solid organ transplant recipients
Background: COVID-19 vaccination has been successful in decreasing rates of SARS-CoV-2 infection in areas with high vaccine uptake. Cases of breakthrough SARS-CoV-2 infection remain infrequent among immunocompetent vaccine recipients who are protected from severe COVID-19. Robust data demonstrate the safety, immunogenicity, and effectiveness of several COVID-19 vaccine formulations. Importantly, Pfizer-BioNTech BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine studies have now included children as young as 5 years of age with safety, immunogenicity, and effectiveness data publicly available. In the United States, emergency use authorization by the Federal Drug Administration and approval from the Centers for Disease Control/Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices have been provided for the 5- to 11-year-old age group.
Methods: Members of the International Pediatric Transplant Association (IPTA) provide an updated review of current COVID-19 vaccine data with focus on pediatric solid organ transplant (SOT)-specific issues.
Results: This review provides an overview of current COVID-19 immunogenicity, safety, and efficacy data from key studies, with focus on data of importance to pediatric SOT recipients. Continued paucity of data in the setting of pediatric transplantation remains a challenge.
Conclusions: Further studies of COVID-19 vaccination in pediatric SOT recipients are needed to better understand post-vaccine COVID-19 T-cell and antibody kinetics and determine the optimal vaccine schedule. Increased COVID-19 vaccine acceptability, uptake, and worldwide availability are needed to limit the risk that COVID-19 poses to pediatric solid organ transplant recipients.</p
Live vaccines after pediatric solid organ transplant: Proceedings of a consensus meeting, 2018
Growing evidence suggests receipt of live-attenuated viral vaccines after solid organ transplant (SOT) has occurred and is safe and needed due to lapses in herd immunity. A 2-day consortium of experts in infectious diseases, transplantation, vaccinology, and immunology was held with the objective to review evidence and create expert recommendations for clinicians when considering live viral vaccines post-SOT. For consideration of VV and MMR post-transplant, evidence exists only for kidney and liver transplant recipients. For MMR vaccine post-SOT, consider vaccination during outbreak or travel to endemic risk areas. Patients who have received antiproliferative agents (eg. mycophenolate mofetil), T cell-depleting agents, or rituximab; or have persistently elevated EBV viral loads, or are in a state of functional tolerance, should be vaccinated with caution and have a more in-depth evaluation to define benefit of vaccination and net state of immune suppression prior to considering vaccination. MMR and/or VV (not combined MMRV) is considered to be safe in patients who are clinically well, are greater than 1 year after liver or kidney transplant and 2 months after acute rejection episode, can be closely monitored, and meet specific criteria of "low-level" immune suppression as defined in the document
