Nanospring behaviour of ankyrin repeats
No full textAnkyrin repeats are an amino-acid motif believed to function in protein recognition; they are present in tandem copies in diverse proteins in nearly all phyla(1). Ankyrin repeats contain antiparallel alpha-helices that can stack to form a superhelical spiral(2). Visual inspection of the extrapolated structure of 24 ankyrin-R repeats(2) indicates the possibility of spring-like behaviour of the putative superhelix. Moreover, stacks of 17-29 ankyrin repeats in the cytoplasmic domains of transient receptor potential (TRP) channels have been identified as candidates for a spring that gates mechanoreceptors in hair cells as well as in Drosophila bristles(3-5). Here we report that tandem ankyrin repeats exhibit tertiary-structure-based elasticity and behave as a linear and fully reversible spring in single-molecule measurements by atomic force microscopy. We also observe an unexpected ability of unfolded repeats to generate force during refolding, and report the first direct measurement of the refolding force of a protein domain. Thus, we show that one of the most common amino-acid motifs has spring properties that could be important in mechanotransduction and in the design of nanodevices.

Portfolio se skládá z deseti kapitol, z nichž každá se zaměřuje na specifický aspekt pedagogické dráhy autorky. První klíčovou částí portfolia je esej s názvem "Jak lze literaturu pro děti využívat ve bkolní družině k rozvoji různých dovedností a schopností dětí". Tato esej podrobně analyzuje metody a techniky, jakými může být dětská literatura integrována do každodenních aktivit ve bkolní družině, a jak přispívá k rozvoji čtenářských, jazykových a sociálních dovedností žáků. Druhou významnou částí je případová studie Základní bkoly a Mateřské bkoly Na Beránku v Praze 12. Tato studie nabízí hluboký vhled do konkrétních pedagogických přístupů a metod používaných v této instituci, s důrazem na podporu čtenářství a rozvoj dovedností dětí v rámci bkolní družiny. Obsahuje detailní popis prostředí bkoly, pedagogických strategií a výsledků implementovaných programů. Třetí část portfolia obsahuje strukturovaný životopis autorky, který detailně mapuje její vzdělání, profesní zkubenosti a dalbí kvalifikace. Tento životopis poskytuje čtenáři ucelený pohled na profesní dráhu Michaely Vlčkové a její odbornou připravenost pro roli vychovatelky. Ex-dividend Day Stock Price Behavior: The Case of the 1986 Tax Reform Act.
No full textThis paper analyzes the behavior of stock prices around ex-dividend days after the implementation of the 1986 Tax Reform Act that dramatically reduced the difference between the tax treatment of realized long-term capital gains and dividend income in 1987 and completely eliminated the differential in 1988. The author shows that this tax change had no effect on the ex-dividend stock price behavior, which is consistent with the hypothesis that long-term individual investors have no significant effect on ex-day stock prices during this time period. The results indicate that the activity of short-term traders and corporate traders dominates the price determination on the ex-day. Copyright 1991 by American Finance Association.
