Questo lavoro predilige la dimensione linguistica e si propone di mettere in luce le caratteristiche salienti della sottotitolazione attraverso esempi in lingue diverse. Il libro illustra lo sviluppo e la diffusione a livello europeo delle molteplici metodologie di traduzione audiovisiva permettendo al lettore di venire a conoscenza di procedimenti poco noti (sopratitolazione per il teatro, voice-over, commento, narrazione, descrizione audiovisiva) in un paese che per ragioni storiche e culturali da sempre predilige il doppiaggio
What Would We Read Best? Hypotheses and Suggestions for the Location of Line Breaks in Film Subtitles
No full textThis study aims to shed light on the possible effects of line-breaks on film subtitle readability and usability, and offers theoretical evidence that processing might be enhanced by careful segmentation of lines. Although psycholinguistic literature shows that reading coherent groups of words at each fixation aids its linear progress, a careful segmentation of lines does not seem to be consistently provided to encourage automated reading of film captions and subtitles. This paper makes the claim that when phrases and clauses have to continue over a new line, segmentation should take place according to the principal rules of syntax. Only in this way can the cognitive process of reading subtitles and watching action proceed with the least effort. This is also likely to enable more users, including the deaf and hard-of-hearing, along with second language learners, to process film subtitles proficientl

No full textITA: Il volume approfondisce svariati aspetti dell’audio descrizione per ciechi e ipovedenti che sono emersi durante il convegno Nuovi percorsi in traduzione e interpretazione tenutosi al Dipartimento di scienze del linguaggio, dell’interpretazione e della traduzione dell’Università di Trieste, 16-18 Giungo 2010. I temi trattati spaziano da quelli più consueti (analisi linguistiche dell’AD in diverse lingue, strategie per la risoluzione di problemi pratici che si pongono all’audio descrittore) a quelli più attuali (necessità di staccarsi da linee guida talvolta troppo rigide, audio descrizioni prodotte da sistemi di sintesi vocale, studi orientati alla ricezione dell’audio descrizione, descrizione ambientale). I contributi sono riconducibili ad autori noti del settore (Saveria Arma, Bernd Benecke, Agnieszka Chmiel, Anna Jankowska, Riitta Lahtinen, Nathalie Mälzer-Semlinger, Iwona Mazur, Pilar Orero, Russ Palmer, Agnieszka Szarkowska) e si pongono come spnti appetibili per tutti coloro che sono interessati ad approfondire il tema dell’accessibilità dei media.ENG: The volume deals with several aspects of audio description for the blind and sight impaired which came to the surface during the AD session of the conference Emerging topics in translation and interpreting held at the Department of Language, Translation and Interpreting Studies of the University of Trieste, 16-18 June 2010. The topics dealt with in the volume range from the more established (linguistic analysis of ADs in various languages, strategies to overcome possible obstacles while audio describing) to the very pioneering (need to depart from guidelines, text-to-speech audio description, reception research in AD, environmental description). No full textA very important aspect of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is the role it covers within a specific country. Choosing to study in a bilingual school means more than merely choosing to properly learn a second language. This paper deals with the impact of CLIL, and especially of the English language and culture, on the very strict and long-established teaching methods traditionally employed in Hungary. In such a rigid educational environment, teaching in a language different from Hungarian entails a number of implications that pave the way to innovation and flexibility, and shifts the attention from the teacher to the student, freeing him from formalities and stressful learning conditions and opening his mind to the awareness and the pleasure of learning
