Productos y tecnologías para el impulso de biocombustibles

    Get PDF
Compared to photovoltaic (PV) and wind energy, bioenergy covers a much wider field. The amount of technologies developed for PV and wind is reduced and electricity is their only product. On the other hand, the production of biomass (agriculture and forestry) and its conversion by mechanical, thermochemical, biological and biochemical processes to a wide range of fuels, suitable to be introduced in a variety of energy conversion equipment, constitute the matrix of a complex problem. In addition, the use of biomass for energy production is linked to other applications, such as food, materials, chemical products, etc. As if all this were not enough, political issues, businesses affairs, science and non-governmental organizations set priorities for the use of biomass that are often incompatible and based on partial information.Fil: Pereda, Selva. Copolymerization between A3 and B2 with ring formation and different intrinsic reactivity in one of the monomers

    Get PDF
We present two models for the stepwise copolymerization between a three-functional monomer As and a bifunctional monomer B2 where both intramolecular reaction and different intrinsic reactivities of reactive sites are present. The difference in reactivities may be either on the A sites or the B sites, leading to two different models. The models may calculate both pregel and postgel parameters. One of the two models presents a nonsymmetrical response to the rate constant ratio. Each of the nonidealities was previously known to lead to a delay in gel point when considered individually; we find in this work that when present simultaneously they may either reinforce or compensate each other, depending on the reacting conditions. We reinterpret some experimental data from the literature using one of the models, with satisfactory results.Fil: Pereda, Selva. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Modeling hydrocarbon droplet dissolution in near-critical or supercritical water using GCA-EOS and non-ideal diffusional driving force in binary mixtures

    No full text
In this work, the mixing of a hydrocarbon droplet in near- and super-critical water (NCW/SCW) is mathematically modeled, coupling thermodynamic properties calculation with transport processes. In non-ideal systems, mass transfer is captured using the generalized Maxwell-Stefan equations with the driving force expressed in terms of the fugacity gradients. The GCA-EOS is used to predict the thermodynamic properties and phase equilibrium compositions. We select n-decane, n-triacontane, benzene, naphthalene and 1-decylnaphthalene as representative hydrocarbons. Our simulations show delayed mixing processes as the temperature approaches the upper critical solution temperature (UCST) of the mixture, consistent with the impact of non-ideal diffusional driving forces evaluated from pure thermodynamic calculations. Results also show that the phase behavior notably affects the non-ideal driving forces near the UCST, which confirms the importance of coupling accurate thermodynamic models in predictive mixing studies.Fil: Sánchez, Francisco Adrián. Density and viscosity of mixtures of glycerol acetates saturated with CO2 for the design of a supercritical fractionation column

    No full text
Supercritical CO2 technology has a great potential for the fractionation of glycerol acetates (mono, di, and triacetyl glycerol) according to the quality standards of the food and cosmeceutical sectors. The design of fractionation columns requires a robust thermodynamic model for phase-equilibrium and PVT predictions, as well as proper correlations for physical properties like viscosity. In this work, we measure volumetric and rheological properties of mixtures of glycerol acetates saturated with CO2 (up to 70 mol%) in the temperature range 298−323 K. The mixture molar volumes are between 75 mL/mol and 135 mL/mol, while the viscosities between 0.9 mPa.s and 20 mPa.s. Results show that assuming ideal solution behaviour to estimate the physical properties has a major impact on the design of the fractionation.Fil: Fortunatti Montoya, Mariana. Fractionation of fatty acid esters and acylglycerides with pressurized CO2

    Get PDF
Fatty mono- and di-glycerides are products highly used in the food, cleaning and cosmetic industries because of their emulsifying properties. These products can be obtained through different synthesis routes, namely, glycerolysis of vegetable oils, direct esterification of fatty acids with glycerol or partial transesterification of vegetable oils with alcohols. The last two chemical pathways produce fatty acid esters besides mono/diglycerides, which are difficult to split and purify at industrial scale because of its low vapor pressure, low relative volatility, and high viscosity. In this work, we evaluate the fractionation of fatty acid esters and acylglycerides by supercritical CO2 technology. High pressure experimental extractions were carried out at different operating conditions to validate the technology and a rigorous thermodynamic model was used to evaluate the fractionation process.Fil: Cotabarren, Natalia Soledad. Multiphase equilibria modeling with GCA-EoS: Part I: Carbon dioxide with the homologous series of alkanes up to 36 carbons

    Get PDF
The Group Contribution with Association Equation of State (GCA-EoS) has been successfully applied to represent the global phase behavior of carbon dioxide mixtures with alkanes. Using a single set of parameters, the model is able to predict vapor−liquid and liquid−liquid equilibria of binary mixtures not included in the parametrization procedure. Special emphasis was set on describing the transformation between types of fluid phase behavior to reduce the jeopardy of predicting incorrect liquid split. This family of binary systems has been investigated in previous works; however, this is the first time that GCA-EoS was shown to be able to represent the transformation between types of phase behavior as the length of the alkyl chain increases. The model was tested against an experimental database covering C3−C36 alkanes, temperatures from 210 to 660 K, and pressures up to 400 bar. The wide range of conditions and the parametrization strategy are keys to develop a robust thermodynamic tool forpredicting multiphase behavior.Fil: Gonzalez Prieto, Mariana. Density and viscosity of orange peel oil saturated with pressurized CO2

    No full text
In this work, we measure the density and viscosity of CO2 saturated orange peel oil liquid mixtures under moderated pressure for the purpose of supercritical process engineering design. A high-pressure falling weight viscometer is used to measure the viscosity of saturated liquid mixtures of orange oil + CO2 at different temperatures (293 K to 333 K) and saturated pressures (2 MPa to 10.3 MPa). An important variation of viscosity (0.35.10−3 Pa.s to 1.10 10−3 Pa.s) is reported in the range of operating conditions. Results show the operating temperature influences the viscosity of both the pure oil and the CO2-saturated oily substrates. The new viscosity data correlates with a simple Arrhenius modified type model.Fil: Fortunatti Montoya, Mariana. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Supercritical fluids and phase behavior in heterogeneous gas-liquid catalytic reactions

    Get PDF
Gas-liquid catalyzed reactions carried out in a supercritical medium take advantage of the high reaction rates and improved selectivities that can be achieved by having reactants and products in a homogeneous phase. In this work, the phase behavior of several supercritical reactions are analyzed and the selection of adequate solvents is discussed. The reactions studied include the hydrogenation of terpenic compounds and unsaturated aldehydes, and the hydroformylation of hydrocarbons to produce aldehydes. Recent experimental results from the literature on the kinetics and selectivities of these reactions are discussed on the basis of the phase equilibrium scenario under the reaction conditions.Fil: Pereda, Selva.
