The Fyrkat 4 Grave
The Viking Age ring fortress of Fyrkat is located on a low and narrow promontory in Onsild Ådal, at the head of Mariager Fjord in Jylland, Denmark. The fortress was excavated and reconstructed in the period 1951–1973 and subsequently meticulously published by Olaf Olsen and Holger Schmidt.¹ During the excavation works, a burial ground was recognised 50 m north-east of the fortress, and this was presented by Else Roesdahl in her publication on the artefacts from the fortress and its neighbouring cemetery.²No traces of Viking Age activities were recorded on the site prior to the building of the..
