No full textPh.D.This thesis mainly describes studies on the ultracold collisions with the ground-state ²³Na⁸⁷Rb molecules. The molecules are produced from a ultracold mixture of Na and Rb atoms via the magnetoassociation near an interspecies Feshbach resonance and are further transferred to the ground state via a Raman process. The precise internal state control of the molecule is achieved with Raman beams and microwaves. Based on the precise internal state control, a series of experimental studies including collisions withcontrolled chemical reactivities, collisions of molecules with induce electric dipoles, collisions in a molecular mixture and collisions between molecules and atoms are carried out. These experiments yield precise collision rate constant values. The comparison between the experimental results and the theoretical models shed new lights to the underlying interactions of the complicated molecular collisions. Genomics-assisted breeding - A revolutionary strategy for crop improvement
No full textFood shortages arise more frequently owing to unpredictable crop yield losses caused by biotic and abiotic stresses. With advances in molecular biology and marker technology, a new era of molecular breeding has emerged that has greatly accelerated the pace of plant breeding. High-throughput genotyping technology and phenotyping platforms have enabled large-scale marker-trait association analysis, such as genome-wide association studies, to precisely dissect the genetic architecture of plant traits. Large-scale mapping of agronomically important quantitative trait loci, gene cloning and characterization, mining of elite alleles/haplotypes, exploitation of natural variations, and genomic selection have paved the way towards genomics-assisted breeding (GAB). Extending the Constitution to Refugee-Parolees
No full textThis comment examines the Constitutional rights of Indochinese refugee-parolees. The author begins by discussing the gap in rights between permanent residents and parolees. Permanent residents have entered the county and therefore receive certain rights. Parolees have not entered the country according to the Supreme Court\u27s decision in Leng May Ma v. Barber and therefore do not receive the same rights. The author argues that the gap between the rights of permanent residents and refugee-parolees must be narrowed. The author also argues that Leng May Ma is inapplicable to refugee-parolees who are not temporary visitors as a parolee is. The author also supports the argument with a description of the Congressional reaction to Leng May Ma and the Presidential rejection of Leng May Ma . The author calls on Congress or the courts to increase the current constitutional protections granted to Indochinese refugee-parolees

No full textAmong the many manuscripts relating to Ch’an Buddhism included in the Tun-huang finds of the early years of this century, the Leng-chia shih-tzu chi has always been regarded by scholars as a discovery of unusual importance, since it presents an unrivalled picture of the early development of this type of Buddhism from the long-obscured viewpoint of the so-called Northern school of Ch’an. The text has been rendered into English lately by J. C. Cleary, but only in a translation intended for a non-scholarly audience. Fortunately, however, the new French-language translation and study by Bernard Faure is everything a scholar could wish for, a worthy product of many years of research, including several spent at the feet of Yanagida Seizan, Japan's outstanding authority on the early historiography of Ch’an. Faure's work, not surprisingly, shows a complete grasp of the complex issues of intellectual history raised by his text, and also provides copious commentary on its author, Ching-chüeh (683–c. 750), and his background.</jats:p
