Mice lacking C1q or C3 show accelerated rejection of minor H disparate skin grafts and resistance to induction of tolerance
Complement activation is known to have deleterious effects on organ transplantation. On the other hand, the complement system is also known to have an important role in regulating immune responses. The balance between these two opposing effects is critical in the context of transplantation. Here, we report that female mice deficient in C1q (C1qa(-/-)) or C3 (C3(-/-)) reject male syngeneic grafts (HY incompatible) at an accelerated rate compared with WT mice. Intranasal HY peptide administration, which induces tolerance to syngeneic male grafts in WT mice, fails to induce tolerance in C1qa(-/-) or C3(-/-) mice. The rejection of the male grafts correlated with the presence of HY D(b)Uty-specific CD8(+) T cells. Consistent with this, peptide-treated C1qa(-/-) and C3(-/-) female mice rejecting male grafts exhibited more antigen-specific CD8(+)IFN-gamma(+) and CD8(+)IL-10(+) cells compared with WT females. This suggests that accumulation of IFN-gamma- and IL-10-producing T cells may play a key role in mediating the ongoing inflammatory process and graft rejection. Interestingly, within the tolerized male skin grafts of peptide-treated WT mice, IFN-gamma, C1q and C3 mRNA levels were higher compared to control female grafts. These results suggest that C1q and C3 facilitate the induction of intranasal tolerance.</p

Finding Hy-Brasil: The Gateway Between Reality And Unreality
Through Irish history, different spiritual demands in specific historical moments impacts on the legends of Hy-Brasil. In turn, the stories of Hy-Brasil reflects the history of Ireland through its possible position, appearances, items events, viewpoints gateways and monuments. The project is to use the history of Hy-Brasil, a mystical island of Ireland, to explore the architecture of myth, which are expected to be triggered and formed by the current situation of Ireland. It looks to design a pragmatic space by providing a gateway to the mythic island of Hy-Brasil. Siting on the north end the Ireland, the Lough Foyle in Donegal, the project constructs an architectural artifact out of a particular strata of Ireland’s specific geology and monumental landscape to take people into the imagination and expectation of perceive the Irish mythology. The Berlage Post-MSc in Architecture and Urban Desig
Room-temperature NIR phosphorescence of new iridium (III) complexes with ligands derived from benzoquinoxaline
[[abstract]]A new series of new iridium (III) complexes (1-5) bearing ligands derived from benzoquinoxaline were designed and synthesized. X-ray structural analyses of 1 reveal a distorted octahedral geometry around the Ir atom in which the pyrazolate chelate is located opposite to the cis-oriented carbon donor atoms of benzoquinoxaline, while the benzoquinoxaline ligands adopt an eclipse configuration and their coordinated nitrogen atoms and carbon adopt trans- and cis-orientation, respectively. Complexes 1-5 exhibit moderate NIR phosphorescence with peak maxima located at around 910-930 nm. As supported by the TDDFT approach, the transition mainly involves benzoquinoxaline (3)pi-pi* intraligand charge transfer (ILCT) and metal (Ir) to benzoquinoxaline charge transfer (MLCT) of which the spectroscopy and dynamics of relaxation have been thoroughly investigated. The relatively weak NIR emission can be tentatively rationalized by the low energy gap of which the radiationless deactivation may be governed by nearly temperature-independent, weak-bonding motions in combination with a minor channel incorporating small torsional motions associated with phenyl ring in the benzoquinoxaline sites.[[fileno]]2010302010038[[department]]化學
