    A Systematic Review on Author Identification Methods

    Author Identification is a technique for identifying author of anonymous text. It has near about 130 year's long history, started with the work by Mendenhall 1987. Applications of Author identification include plagiarism detection, detecting anonymous author, in forensics and so on. In this paper the authors outline features used for Author identification like vocabulary, syntactic and others. Researchers worked on various methods for Author identification they also outline this paper on types of Author Identification methods that include 1. Profile-based Approaches which includes Probabilistic Models, Compression Models, Common n-Grams (CNG) approach, 2. Instance-based Approaches which includes Vector Space Models, Similarity-based Models, Meta-learning Models and 3. Hybrid Approaches. At the end the authors conclude this paper with observations and future scope.</p

    With increasing ethical issues and global corporate scandals, many organisations are now looking to employ well-rounded professionals, who take ownership of their workplace while leading with their heart and soul. These organisations seem to be more concerned with relationship building and future employability (Cunha, Rego, &amp; D’Oliveira, 2006) and are interested in the concept of spirituality with the hope that it could address ethical issues influencing their businesses.‘Spirituality and ethics are core values that have shaped human life from time immemorial’ (Mahadevan, 2013, p. 91). Ethics and spirituality are interrelated but different as ethics is about customs and habits, while spirituality is concerned with personal meaningful experiences and differs from person to person, making it hard to define.Organisations moving towards spirituality require leadership that can develop a spiritual climate and their learning and development has to be top priority (Pawar, 2009).This requires management education to appreciate the concept of spirituality and like some universities globally, incorporate it within their programmes (Harris &amp; Crossman, 2005).To explore whether spirituality could be incorporated within the higher education curriculum, my PhD researched academic’s viewpoints in selected faculties within a regional university in Australia. This paper reports some of its findings from the data gathered through semi-structured interviews, with a focus on leadership, its relevance to ethics and the teaching of spirituality. Results indicate that academics support the inclusion of spirituality but the programmes need to be carefully designed

    The association between religion and virginity status, delayed sexual debut, and childbearing among Brazilian adolescents

    The author has granted permission for their work to be available to the general public.This thesis examines the association between religion and the sexual and reproductive behavior of Brazilian adolescents ages 15-19. The analysis presented here examines the effects of religious factors along three tracks: virginity status, delayed sexual debut, and childbearing. In order to investigate these factors, I use two sets of data, namely the 2006 Brazilian National Demographic and Health Survey and the 2003 Profile of Brazilian Youth. Both univariate and bivariate statistical analyses are utilized in the descriptive part of the analysis and multivariate analyses are employed to test a series of research hypotheses. Ultimately the research finds that religion plays a significant role in promoting virginity, delaying sexual debut, and protecting against teenage childbearing. The results are interpreted in the context of several theoretical frameworks that posit the salutary influence of religion on sexual and reproductive behavior.Sociolog

    Comparative study of manual liquid-based cytology (MLBC) technique and direct smear technique (conventional) on fine-needle cytology/fine-needle aspiration cytology samples

    Background: Liquid-based cytology technique enables cells to be suspended in a liquid medium and spread in a monolayer, making better morphological assessment. Automated techniques have been widely used, but limited due to cost and availability. Aim: The aim was to establish manual liquid-based cytology (MLBC) technique on fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) material and compare its results with conventional technique. Materials and Methods: In this study, we examined cells trapped in needles hub used for the collection of FNAC samples. 50 cases were examined by the MLBC technique and compared with the conventional FNAC technique. By centrifugation, sediment was obtained and imprint was taken on defined area. Papanicolaou (Pap) and May-Grünwald Giemsa (MGG) staining was done. Direct smears and MLBC smears were compared for cellularity, background, cellular preservation, and nuclear preservation. Slides were diagnosed independently by two cytologists with more than 5 years′ experience. Standard error of proportion was used for statistical analysis. Results: Cellularity was low in MLBC as compared with conventional smears, which is expected as remnant material in the needle hub was used. Nuclei overlap to a lesser extent and hemorrhage and necrosis was reduced, so cell morphology can be better studied in the MLBC technique. P value obtained was <0.05. Conclusion: This MLBC technique gives results comparable to the conventional technique with better morphology. Phytochemical screening of material revealed the presence of carbohydrates, proteins, amino acids, steroids, cardiac and anthraquinone glycosides, saponins, flavonoids, tannins and phenolic compounds. The elemental analysis revealed Na, Mg, K, Ca, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn, Se, Mo, Li, B, Al, P, Cd, As, Ba, and Hg. FTIR technique was used to identify various functional groups present in three different extracts of the material.Conclusion: The phytochemical screening of three different extracts of the material showed the presence of most of the primary and secondary metabolites in aqueous and methanolic extract than acetone extract. The soluble extractive value was found the maximum in aqueous extract hence aqueous extract is most effective for studying the pharmacological activity of this plant. Elemental analysis showed the presence of trace elements in sufficient concentrations and traces of heavy and toxic metals. The FTIR study revealed the presence of essential functional groups in three different extracts of the material.     Review of ultrasonic testing for NDE of composite wind turbine blades

    This paper will present a review of the use of Air coupled ultrasonics for nondestructive evaluation of wind turbine blades carried out at the CNDE, Iowa State University. Results will show the use of air coupled ultrasonics to scan thick composite sections of 40m wind turbine blades including the spar cap, the leading and trailing edges. Detection of defects such as slots, holes, fiber waviness (both in-plane and out-of-plane waviness), delaminations and dry fibers will be presented. Other features like adhesive thickness and length estimation in spar cap/shear web section and the trailing edge section will also be presented. The use of air coupled UT is not limited to just detection, but also characterization of the detected defects. Results highlighting the use of ultrasonic velocity to characterize defects will be presented. This includes defining damage index in terms of velocity, as well as development of stiffness maps to show reduction in structural stiffness based on the defect. Additionally, the challenges of NDT of wind turbine blades using conventional ultrasonics will also be presented.This proceeding may be downloaded for personal use only.     The implications of foreign aid fungibility for development assistance

    A foreign aid or foreign lending policy that focuses exclusively on project financing may have unintended consequences, report the authors. New research shows that aid intended for crucial social and economic sectors often merely substitutes for spending that recipient governments would have undertaken anyway and the funds that are thereby freed up are spent for other purposes. If the aid funds something that would have been done anyway, traditional ways of evaluating the aid's effectiveness are not really accurate. Ifaid funds are fungible and the recipient's public spending program is unsatisfactory, project lending may not be cost-effective. If the recipient's public spending program is satisfactory, perhaps the donor should finance a portion of it instead of financing individual projects. One solution to the problem of fungibility, then, is that donors could tie assistance to an overall public spending program (in the recipient country) that provides adequate resources to crucial sectors. To make this kind of reform operational, the authors propose a new lending instrument: a public expenditure reform loan (PERL). A PERL would tie an institution's lending strategy to the recipient country's achievement of mutually agreed-upon development goals. Everyone agrees that better donor coordination is needed, but it has been difficult to achieve because some donors tend to prefer projects (usually with the national flag flying over them).     Improving educational outcomes for STEM students at Rutgers University-Camden: a machine learning approach

    The goal of this thesis is to demonstrate how machine-learning techniques can be used to improve educational outcomes for STEM students at Rutgers University-Camden. The three main areas of focus are: identifying changes in the academic landscape throughout a 15-year period, identifying predictors of student success, and using these predictors to develop a recommendation system to assist at-risk students. The data in the study con- sists of student demographic and academic records from 2003-2017. Simple exploratory data analysis is used to highlight changes in student performance over time. Next, a deeper analysis is performed by training three classifiers - logistic regression with L1 penalty, logistic regression with L2 penalty, and a random forest model - to predict the probability that students will graduate. Finally, the predictions of each classifier are calibrated and combined to form a robust recommendation system which can be used to alert advisers when a student is struggling.M.S.Includes bibliographical referencesby Arthur P.     Stability indicating HPLC method development and validation for the simultaneous determination of Azithromycin & Ofloxacin in bulk and its dosage forms

    A simple, precise, sensitive and reproducible stability indicating Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatographic (RP-HPLC) method for determination of Azithromycin and Ofloxacin in tablet dosage form was developed. Chromatographic separation was achieved on Hypersil-Keystone RP C 18 (250 4.6 mm, 5m) column maintained at 30 C eluted with mobile phase at flow rate of 1.2 ml/min. The mobile phase consists of Buffer (0.02 M potassium dihydrogenphosphate): methanol: acetonitrile in the ratio 65:25:10 v/v at pH maintained at 3.2 with OPA was used and the determination was carried out at 285 nm. The retention time for Azithromycin and Ofloxacin were 9.7 min and 5.01 respectively. The linearity was found in the range of 5?50 ?g/ml for Azithromycin and 4?40 ?g/ml for Ofloxacin. In stability studies the drugs were well separated from degradation products. The degradation was studied in the individual standard drugs, their mixture and formulation which gave the idea about the orgin of the degradant products. The analytical method was validated as per ICH guideline for linearity, accuracy, precision, and specificity, limit of detection, limit of quantification, stability in analytical solution etc. and method can be extended to the analysis of Azithromycin and Ofloxacin in tablet formulations
