The "human factor" in DFM
With a focus on understanding the overall effect of DFM on human factors aspects, DFM/DFA literature was systematically searched, reviewed and critically assessed. The influence of DFM on work organization is analysed using examples from literature, with the aim of quantifying consequences on work performance, job satisfaction and human work load where possible. It is also shown that job enlargement through DFM tasks increases the workload for the Product Designer, who is on the critical path of the engineering process. Without taking measures to counterbalance this higher workload of the Product Designer, DFM projects in complex engineering environments are likely to fail

Assessing ease of use of the Staminalift bed mover
Battery powered bed movers are increasingly being used within the hospital setting. These energy augmenting devices facilitate the safe movement of beds and patients by healthcare workers. The use of powered bed movers is believed to result in reduced physical efforts on the behalf of staff members, which may be associated with a decreased risk of occupational related injuries. A provisional study was performed in a hospital environment to assess the muscular efforts associated with moving hospital beds both manually and with the aid of a bed mover. The results enable the effects of using bed movers to be quantified
Righteousness in the Concept of Covenantal Nomism: An Exegetical Study of the Psalms of Solomon and Paul's Letters
This thesis is an investigation of E. P. Sanders’ concept of Covenantal Nomism as a description of the “pattern of religion” of Judaism. It has a particular focus on his argument that the religion of first-century Palestinian Judaism was not legalistic. This thesis seeks to show that his argument is evidently correct by taking the Psalms of Solomon as a case study to test whether its pattern of religion is rightly described as Covenantal Nomism. It offers a comparative analysis of the Psalms of Solomon and Pauline theology, focusing on the understanding of the ‘getting in’ and ‘staying in’ stages of their soteriologies. These are analysed using the concepts of ‘monergism’ and ‘synergism.’
The thesis proceeds to examine their theology of äéêáéïóýíç and äéêáéïóýíç èåïõ̂; in association with the concept of Covenantal Nomism. The results of this examination are three main findings, which are as follows. Firstly, the ‘getting in’ stage of the Psalms of Solomon is monergistic because God’s gracious election alone is involved, while the ‘getting in’ stage of Paul’s soteriology is synergistic because faith in Christ Jesus is needed as a response to God’s justifying activity. Secondly, in the ‘staying in’ stage, the soteriologies of both the Psalms of Solomon and Paul are synergistic, since obedience to the Law or ‘obedience of faith’ is required to maintain the covenant relationship with God. Thirdly, both the Psalms of Solomon and Paul’s letters show a similar view, which is that God’s discipline is fundamental to helping the righteous grow in their dependence on Him and rescuing those who sin from destruction. Both agree that God on the Day of Judgment will reward the righteous who obey, and punish the sinners and the righteous who disobey and choose not to repent.
The author concludes, from the findings, that contemporary Christians must take care to continue in the obedience of faith and the renewal of their minds through the empowering of the Spirit in order to ensure their continual growth into Christ’s likeness and to avoid punishment on the Day of Judgment
Improving posture and decreasing pain with novel shoe insoles
A single subject longevity study is presented as a case study for the Medical Device Partnering Program (MDPP). The MDPP supports the development of cutting-edge medical devices and assistive technologies, through unique collaborations between researchers, industry, clinical end-users and government. The study aimed to identify what effect the innersole has on specific muscles that may influence stability and whether the innersole had any influence on gait. Three tests were conducted; a standard gait test, dynamic balance test and a standing balance test. Results from the kinematic analysis showed reduced variability in post testing results when compared to pre testing results. Reductions in muscle activation levels were also found across all tests. Further testing with a larger sample size is required to determine if these effects are due to the innersole
